Bra introduktion till södra Frankrike

Sebastian var en bra guide för vår första turné någonsin i Frankrike, informativ och glad. Tempot på turnén var helt rätt. Vi kunde se och uppskatta sevärdheterna samtidigt som vi höll schemat. Vi njöt av marknaden i Arles, utsikten och strukturerna i Les Beaux och Saint Remys avslappnade charm.

Vår guide Greg gjorde det till en minnesvärd upplevelse. Förutom att ge oss gott om ledig tid att utforska var och en av de tre mellanlandningspunkterna, gav han under körningen en detaljerad men underhållande förklaring av regionens historia och geografi. Han gav också en utmärkt översikt över vinodling i regionen. Vi skulle faktiskt rekommendera alla lokala rundturer där Greg är din guide.

Arles, Les Beaux och St R my

Arles var intresse och Les Beaux var vacker. Vi hade 2 timmar på varje plats och det var tillräckligt med tid att utforska och äta. street R my var lite av en besvikelse - bara en liten stad med butiker, ganska varmt inget intressant. Med bara en timme på gatan R my fanns det ingen tid att se Rand-artefakterna eller gå i Van Goghs steg

Les Baux var vacker och hade en underbar lunch på en terrass med utsikt över dalen och bergen. Stor besvikelse var att vi inte åkte till Arles först eftersom vi blev befordrad för att uppleva den bästa marknaden i Provence. Belys också historien om vart vi skulle.

På denna resa var det 3 stopp på mellan 1 . 5 och 2 timmar vardera där vi fick en karta och lämnade för att utforska på egen hand. Höjdpunkten på denna resa för mig var arenan i Arles - den tog andan ur mig. Tidsfördelningen på 2 timmar gav gott om tid att utforska Arles och dess romerska arkitektur. Vår guide Ludo och praktikanten Geoff var mycket kunniga och hjälpsamma. Les Baux är vacker med enastående natur och ett mecka för lokala råvaror. Marknaden på gatan Remy var upptagen men centrum är väl värt att utforska. Vi njöt verkligen av resan och är perfekt för oberoende resenärer som oss som gärna följer en karta. Det är inte en helt guidad tur

We loved this tour! Nelly was a great guide, responsive to the group and fun. We really liked the format of the tour - in a van with guide commentary and then on our own in the various locations.

We bookend this tour mainly because of our interest in van Gogh. Great was out disappointment upon arriving at the Musée Estrine Présence Van Gogh in St Remy just to discover that the musée only opened at 14:00 and we would therefore not be able to visit. The guide didnt know about the times, surely they should be informed as to opening times of the sites. Her response was a mere, Im so sorry Well, not good enough. The second dissappointment was the fact that the Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole as well as the archeological site were also both closed and the guide yet again unaware of the fact... The reason was that the 1 November is a public holiday in France and nor Viator not the Travel Company informed us about the fact that these sites were going to be closed. The next stop was Les Baux de Provence, which was a hightlight. The light show, Carrièrs de Lumièrs, was a breathtaking experience! At the last stop at Arles, we decided not to join the group and walked the route of Van Gogh and view some of the sites which he painted. Little info was given by the guide about Van Gogh which is a pitty. All in all not worth the amount of money one pays for this tour, seeing that none of the entrance fees are included.

Rémy, our very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide for the day, brought us around the Les Alpilles to follow the trails of Van Gogh in Saint Rémy and Arles, and then to the beautiful village, Les Baux-de-Provence. It was an experience of a lifetime!

This tour is worth the price as we visited so many places including the hospital where Van Gogh stayed in France and the restaurant featured in one of his paintings. Our tour guide was also very good. She was told us about the history of places and even how Napoleon Bonaparte had the trees planted for his soldiers to get a shade. We visited a busy market in Saint Remy. If you are craving for paella, you have to bring your own plastic fork as they only had a shell for you to use as utensil. There were soaps, fruits, vegetables, dried vegetables, ceramics and a lot more. We also visited this wonderful place Le Baux where we had our lunch. A spectacular show called the Carrieres de Lumieres CDL is really worth the price you pay. My suggestion though is to have lunch in Saint Remy so we would have more time to watch CDL. Due to the heat in France during our recent visit, we decided to sit in a coffee shop to relax after taking photos around another quaint town Arles.

The guide was very poor. She never spoke a word to us on our way to our first stop, Arles. When we arrived, she handed us a map and a departure time. She spoke a little on the way to Les Baux de Provrnce. Same scenario on arrival.....map and departure time. Then we proceeded to the Roman ruins and mental hospital outside of St Remy. She drove through the town, never stopping, as was advertised in the brochure. We returned 45 minutes early.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much history and loved seeing the scenery that inspired Van Gogh. It was a busy day that did not leave a lot of time to fully explore each town. But overall, well worth it.
