Bird’s eye view of active volcano

It was a wonderful experience. We had nice weather with good visibility and it was a smooth ride. The 55 minutes went by fast. Time flies when you‘re having fun ;) The communication with Cookie in the office was great. She answered all of our questions. Jim, our pilot, seemed to be very experienced and a nice guy. The only thing, that could be improved is the intercon during the flight. Something hus explanations and the questions other passengers had were hard to understand.

Aloha Lynn, Hilo Weather changes very quickly and the pilot makes a weather call for each time independently at check in time. It is important to us that we can deliver a safe quality tour.

Safari Helicopters handled the situation wonderfully. Personally we were disappointed because weather came in and we were unable to see the Park. We had to have a "group consensus" for the alternative trip (a waterfall, coastline, small crater). I was disappointed with my seat as I felt that I saw more of the back of people's heads (again it was how they could keep us safe).

The pilot and ground crew were very organized and informative. The flight was smooth and we saw a lot of the island. We did think we’d be a little closer to the ground to view the volcanos but it was still a great experience.

Lava Flowing, but Not Close Enough

Drew, our Helicopter guide, was professional , safe and knowledgeable. The two workers that greeted us and got us prepped were friendly. We were informed to be there 40 minutes before the excursion, we did a lot of sitting around and waiting.30 minutes before is PLENTY of time. Our tour was 25 minutes late, so be prepared. The ride was smooth, felt very safe and learned a lot. We were able to see the Kilauea volcano and the lava flowing out. I did have expectations to see other parts of the island such as cliffs and waterfalls a little closer. Everything seemed somewhat far away almost as if we were in a plane. I had this idea with a helicopter that we would be able to get closer and get a feel for the size and magnitude of things, that was a disappointment. Make sure to do research before embarking on the trip, nothing is cheap. Overall my kids enjoyed the event. Mahalo

We wish we could fly lower too but there are restrictions in place for safety as well as noise abatement that we all have to abide by. I do want to mention that we get behind schedule when guests arrive late for check in. It is truly unfortunate that these late arrivals put us behind schedule and affect everyone.

Great aerial tour of the Big Island!

We had a great time with Safari. Drew, our pilot, is incredibly knowledgeable about the island, history, and the volcanoes. He’s an excellent pilot. He was careful to make sure that people on both sides of the helicopter got good views of everything he showed us, which included macadamia farms, lava flows, craters, steaming vents, waterfalls, and much more. The grounds crew (wish I remembered their names), did a great job welcoming us, giving us an overview, keeping us safe, and taking great pictures of us. I highly recommend Safari!

Our trio had a fun time flying over Hilo town, macadamia nut tree farms, craters and waterfalls! Our pilot Drew was awesome and has a wealth of knowledge about the area. Glad we took this trip!

Bad experience

I think we can see the volcanos and nothing happens it was very bored We see only the two small water fall and part of the dry lava close to the ocean

Not worth the money

We were disappointed with the excursion. Nothing very exciting about any of it. The staff was fabulous and our pilot was very knowledgeable and a wonderful pilot but we didn’t go very far into the park and didn’t see the big volcanos except from a distance.

Aloha Connie! Mahalo for your review and feedback. We are truly sorry to hear of your disappointment. Mother Nature hasn't provided any new eruptions this week and all the current views are of past eruptive activity during your tour time. The Big Volcanoes are only shown from a distance due to their height of over 13000 feet tall and there is no eruptive activity to see in them either. The last eruption was on the week of September 15th and lasted for about a week. So for those who only want to see live red lava, they may be disappointed

Loved the trip just disappointed we did not fly over the crater. Weather seemed fine but I am no meteorologist.

Aloha Gary! Mahalo for choosing Safari Helicopters. We appreciate your feedback, review and rating. Where we are allowed to fly is dependent on many factors besides weather. There are a lot of people and structures around the Caldera prohibiting us from flying over them for safety reasons

Chris was excellent as a guide. The best guide we had for the whole 7-day trip. Highly recommend this tour... He even stopped to purchase (himself) a meal for someone in the group whose order was wrong.
