Awful - a twelve hour hour hard sell that does not visit the places promised
422EllenM, maj 2019
This was the worst day trip I have ever been on. First off, the itinerary outlined on this site is incorrect. They do not take you to Valladolid on the way and there is no Temazcal. These were two of the things I was most interested in. We asked about the Temazcal when we collected our tickets and the guy feigned compete ignorance and said no one had ever mentioned it before. Aside from that, it was an awful day from start to finish. They picked us up at 6:40am but then took us to Cancun for a confusing check-in process and to transfer on to different buses. We actually left Cancun more than two hours after we were originally picked up. The entire day then turned out to be geared around selling you things. It should be billed as a shopping trip, not a tour. When you collect your ticket they try to get you to upgrade your package for $24 by telling you that you get first access to the cenote, chichen itza etc. What this means in reality is you get to sit at the front of the bus - literally you are first off the bus. You also get drinks included and he told us without the upgrade you will pay $7 for a beer/ $4 for water at the attractions. This was a lie. The drinks are really reasonably priced. From then on, the guide is constantly trying to sell things to you, both on the bus and at the attractions. He got everyone to fill out their date of birth on a bit of paper which then turned out to be an order form for a mayan birth certificate. They forced you to have your photo taken at the cenote (even though we tried to refuse) and then handed you a bottle of alcohol with your photo on it and tried to charge you $20 - with an added guilt trip from the tour guide about how it pays for Mayan children to go to school. When we arrived at the cenote, he forced everyone into a marquee full of stools and refused to give us our tickets to the cenote for almost half an hour in an attempt to get people to buy things here. We got a pathetic 15 minutes in Valladolid on the way home and when all we wanted to do was get off the bus and at least get a look at the beautiful old church he was still trying to get us to go and buy tequila. The whole experience was pressured and manipulative. We were clear with him that we were not interested in buying anything which clearly annoyed him. He got his revenge by dropping us a half mile walk from our quite secluded hotel in the dark which was both spiteful and dangerous. AVOID.

The overall tour is fine. Lunch is good, the car is clean. But keep in mind: they DO BRING YOU TO SHOPPING SITES!! The tour guide won't force you to shopping but will keep promoting different Mayan products..... It can be a little annoying for people who don't like this.

First stop was to the cenote. It is amazing. You have an opportunity to see a performance inside and take pictures. You may swim as well, so bring a swim suit. Lunch was at Lienzo Charro , which is across the place. It is walking distance. It is buffet style, which I completely love. The children will perform a traditional dance for you. The next stop was to the Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world. I would have love for it to be the first stop because it was extremely hot outside. I would recommend bring caps, hats, or umbrella to keep cool. There is an ice cream store inside, which help. The last stop was the city, Valladolid. You will visit a church and a park. There will be a performance there as well and opportunities to take pictures.

I joined this tour on 3 April 2018. Overall is good, except the late hotel pick up due to the misunderstanding between Aviator and Altus tour (sub-tour). Instead of Ik-kil cenote, they brought us to another cenote called Suytun. No Temazcal tour was provided as expected. However, tour guide is great

This was a great tour! Our guide, Galo, was very knowledgeable and fluent in English and Spanish. We went to Valladolid first. We only had 20 minutes to shop and look around which was difficult, but understandable. I would recommend going in the cathedral while there and not spend time shopping. There was plenty of opportunity to shop later on the tour, so don't freak over only having 20 minutes! When we went to Real Mayab, we had to ask about the Temazcal. If it is not offered, be sure to ask! It is an experience that you won't forget! The buffet lunch was wonderful!!!! At Chichen Itza, we had a 45 min-1 hr tour, then had a hour to shop, take photos and look around. It was ample time. This tour also takes you to a cenote to swim, so be sure to take your swimsuit. You can take a backback with your swimsuit/towel and personal items for the day and can leave it on the bus when you shop. It is a nice tour bus with a bathroom. I wish I had known about the transportation and the swimsuit because we weren't prepared at all. Take sunscreen and/or a hat for Chichen Itza. I'd suggest a water bottle for the day too. You have opportunities to purchase drinks, but it's always good to have your own. We did not swim in the cenote, but those who did really enjoyed it. Instead, we enjoyed some wonderful authentic fruit popsicles that were being sold. They were 50 pesos for 2 popsicles approx. 2.50 US dollar I would suggest having some pesos with you for this excursion. They also take US dollars, but it is easier to have pesos with some of the vendors. Our hotel was on the Hotel strip in Cancun. It took approx. 2.5-3 hrs before we arrived at Vallodolid and took about 2.5 hours to return back to our hotel. We were gone 12 hours total with travel time included. I would highly recommend this excursion! It allows you to see the Mayan people and learn about their culture and their living. My 20 year old daughter thanked me for taking her on this educational and fun excursion! Side note - if you don't have international cell service, you will be off-grid all day. I found this to be very nice for myself and my daughter!
