Too little time and not enough explications of Ek Balam.
SophieLyne_L, Jan 2023
First stop was the Hubiku cenote, Life jackets were to be provided with our excursion, but on the site, had to pay 40 pesos! The stay at ek balam, which is to be the main attraction, only lasted an hour or so, and only anecdotes were provided by the guide. Better explanations were provided by another group guide that I follower for a while. Finally, went to a second cenote, Suytún, where buffet lunch was served - a two-hour stop definitely too long. The Valladolid stop was 30 minutes, only to bring us to a tourist souvenir shop for a tequila tasting. Did not visit the city at all, thank God the tequila tasting was next to the main Church and park, which is lovely, but little time to go inside. Overall, my experience was deceiving, the tour should be concentrated to Ek Balam, with a more knowledgeable guide of the site instead of going to 2 cenotes. But our tour guide was very nice, I have nothing against him, but wish we had a better certified guide.

Hi Sophie, thank you for your review. I would like to mention that regarding the life vest, it is not specified in the section of inclusions that it will be provided, that is why you have to pay the rent of it at the cenote. The other point you mention about the information given by the guide, I would like to explain that there is ample information about the archaeological site, the constructions there, the culture, what the Mayan people believed, history that has been found and is still being studied, each guide has their own way of explaining all the information they can give to the visitors, our guides explain the most information possible, however, it is something subjective if you agree with that information or not. Our recommendation is that before visiting an archaeological site, you should get some information so that you can ask the guide about any doubts you may have, and he can explain to you the topics that are of most interest to you. With respect to Valladolid, the government has established measures in time to visit this place, to belong to the program of magical town it is necessary to cover certain measures to conserve this certification among them, the time in which we can have the transportation in the town. Thank you so much for your recommendation we hope to see you soon!
