Fun to see the Penguins and Cape of Good Hope

Mark, our tour quide, was enthusiastic and had a fun, friendly personality. The last quarter of our tour had bad weather and Mark did his best to “beat” the rain. We enjoyed the conversations with a real Cape Town resident.

Great day, guide Gordon was fantastic. loved the penguins. A tip if you take this trip, ensure you pack warm cloths as the cape is freezing with high winds, but Boulders is quite warm. 4 seasons in one day

Stunning

Morne was an amazing tour guide. His knowledge and dry wit, and memory of everyone’s names throughout made the journey extremely enjoyable. With approx 10 people on the tour, for my experience, it was nice and intimate, and everyone got to know each other over the tour. We had a great laugh finding out about each other, as well as seeing stunning scenery. As someone travelling alone I felt really included, however that does mean starting to ask where other people are from and why they are here, which not everyone is happy to do…. To say that TV doesn’t do table mountain and Cape Town justice is a massive understatement. TRUELY STUNNING!

Informative but poorly timed

The trip took us to the key points of interest south of Cape Town. Our driver was pleasant and informative but not a good timekeeper - we were dropped off at our accommodation in Cape Town at 3.30 on a tour billed as a half day!

Tour too rushed

We booked this tour to tie in with my birthday and sailing out of Cape Town later that day. Before booking I checked we could be picked up at the port and told yes. Upon arrival we found it was a big port and didn't have exact location. With WiFi being limited and finding it up Table Mountain, I spent around 45 minutes online to Viator trying to establish where we were being picked up the following day. To no avail as the agent was useless giving me several places and times! Meanwhile I was getting sunburnt and running out of charge on my phone!! In the end a nice security guy at the cruise ship kindly phoned on my behalf. The good news... we would be picked up from the gate right near the ship. The bad news... 8am not 9am as previously stated. Next day there was nobody to meet us and after a couple of phone calls from the company - who clearly had no idea where berths were at the port! - I handed my phone to the security guys on the gate to give the driver directions. We finally started our tour at 8.45am then spent nearly another hour picking up guests around Cape Town. Totally disorganised. We were then asked to pay an unspecified amount using a card machine to cover entrance to Cape Point and Boulders Beach. The tour was rushed. There was simply not enough time to ride the funicular at Cape Point let alone have long enough at the top to admire the views so everyone was late back for the bus. The guide pointed out seals on the rocks at Cape Of Good Hope. Whilst he was good enough to take individual photos of our group with the sign, when we wanted to look at the seals he said there wasn't time and if we wanted to do that we had to run (in the heat)! The visit to the see the penguins at Boulders Beach was reduced to 30 minutes (including walking down the road to/from the minibus!) from the 1 hour advertised. And I think we only stopped to look at the colourful beach huts because I asked when we were doing that. The included water with the tour only appeared on the return drive. We arrived back in Cape Town after 3pm when the tour was supposed to return 1-2pm. Then had to detour to drop one of the guests at the cricket stadium as he had tickets for a match and was late. We asked to be dropped at the Cape Wheel, as did four other guests, and the driver seemed to grump about this even though saving him three separate drop off points! All in all we got to the sights we wanted to see, but in a delayed and rushed fashion. I wouldn't book with Viator again as communication was difficult and took away some of the enjoyment of the trip having to chase for information.

A must do tour in Cape Town

The views from Chapman’s Peak and the Cape Point light house were absolutely stunning. I loved seeing the penguins up close too. Our tour guide, Fiston, was funny, full of knowledge, and very kind. I learned a lot on this tour and had a fabulous time. Highly recommend!

Missed tour because of bad instructions!

We missed the tour. On the confirmation, it reads tour starts at 9am. We were in the hotel lobby 20 mins before 9am. After waiting until about 9:20am, I reached out to tour operator by WHATS APP. I was told they already picked up at the hotel. We were very disappointed! The tour operator told me they sent an email with the pick up time. I never received the email and I never knew I should look for an email with time of pick up or contact tour operator if I didn't receive it as time is noted on confirmation. I noticed it NOW states "exact meeting time will be communicated to you the day before the tour." On our call, Amy told me she would refund our money. Upon our return over 2 weeks later, there is still no credit.

Uncomfortable and stressful driving experience.

The experience was poor because the driver created unnecessary stress by bringing a friend on the tour who did not have the means to pay the full fee for the Cape Point reserve due to being a non-south african citizen. He then argued with the authorities and it made the experience uneasy for the guests. He then drove over the speed limit in the park driving recklessly. The scenery was wonderful and in the end we all enjoyed the tour despite the disruptions caused by the driver.

The tour took 9 hours instead of 4-5 hrs. The guide hardly explained anything about the points we visited. He was hard to understand too. Very friendly though. It was weird that the tickets to the diverse touristic attractions were not included. Advise: I would hire a car and drive myself.

Pulled a fast one at the last minute

The eveniing before (too late to cancel) the they informed me that I neeeded to meet them at a hotel about 30 minutes from the hotel where I was staying even though when I booked, they stated that I would be picked up at my hotel. Not acceptable.

This tour was unfortunate because I waited for over an hour for the group. All communication said 9:00 a.m., however one email the day before said 8:00 a.m. I waited outside door #1 of cruise terminal from 8 a.m. until after 9:00 a.m. I checked all message boards for the excursion group. I called after 9 and was told they looked for me but left. They agreed to a refund which is good but the missed opportunity to see the locations was very disappointing.
