Customer service needs improvement

The tour and tour guide were great. But Viator does a very poor job communicating to tour operators. Its easier for them to say no changes and no refunds so they don't have to help communicate with the local tour operator. I'd expect more from Viator.

Excellent memorable experience in Florence

Excepcional experience to see such an icon of history. Patricia our guide was excellent. She has a vast knowledge of the area and the history with a little touch of humor. Enjoy every minute of this tour. Highly recommended to all.

Free upgrade on-site was a nice surprise.

When we arrived to pick up our tickets we were offered an upgrade to include additional items. Though we didn't have time for all of them, we did take advantage of climbing the Bell Tower, which was more amazing than expected. The tour itself was historical info and only within the Duomo. It was over in the hour noted and we were free to continue on our own at our pace.

Very disorganized

We were instructed to meet our host at a specific location and that ot would be clearly marked with signage. No sign was present, and I was approached by a man asking if we had a booking. I told him I booked through Viator, and he asked to see my voucher. I showed him the voucher on my phone, and he tried to take the phone from my hand to look at it. This was a very uncomfortable interaction. He also told my husband he could not take his backpack inside, and wanted him to leave it in another store, unlocked. Luckily, our daughter is staying up the street, so we had time to leave the backpack at her apartment. There were others in our group that had bags and backpacks with them the entire time. I booked a self guided tour, with skip the line, and a brief description before entering. We were put with a group for a guided tour, which I specifically did not book, as we did not have time in our schedule. I informed the contact person, as well as the guide, that we were in the wrong group, but we were nit given a choice to leave the group and enter on our own. Our tickets to enter were for 2:45, and we did not enter until 4:05. Had very little time to walk around and see the cathedral, as we had other plans that evening. Disappointed

Don’t use Viator unless you want to be cheated

I feel cheated and scammed. I took a chance on trusting Viator despite seeing the negative reviews from others. Don’t let your desperation to see/visit a popular local attraction trick you into giving your hard-earned money to this company.You may not get the experience you paid for. I thought I had signed up and paid for the dome climb in Florence’s Cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Please note that entry into the cathedral is FREE but I paid for myself (and husband and 2 kids) for tickets that included: skipping the line, a tour, and climbing the dome (or so I thought). The dome was closed on the day of the tour! We essentially overpaid to get into a free monument. If I had known the dome was going to be closed and not an option, I would’ve have waited in line to see the cathedral at our own pace for free. Especially because our tour was so haphazard and disappointing. Our guide announced she’d be showing us all the Crypt of Santa Reparata. Then when she led us all down the stairs to view it, she and the Cathedral attendant had a conversation which led her to then explain only the few that paid extra for that will have that option. Most of us in the tour didn’t see that of course. Why even offer it as an option? The guide held onto all of our tickets the entire time. I thought the instructions said that if we showed them our confirmation on the app, they’d hand us our tickets (Nope, didn’t happen). And I know I’m not the only one in our group that was expecting to see the dome. There are 2 coworkers of mine with plans to visit Italy this year (one in June and one in October). I am advising them and anyone else never to use Viator.

Very difficult to find the checkin point. The Viator sign was concealed under a tree. Reservation was for 9:45. Was not aware that doors don’t open until 10:15. Guide was knowledgeable, but not very enthusiastic.

I definitely feel we got our money’s worth out of the tour. For the skip the line alone it was well worth it. I don’t understand people having a problem with the clearly written guidelines telling you no backpacks. There’s a place for you to check your backpacks facing the backside of the duomo that is fee and takes about two minutes to accomplish. Also how can you blame the tour company, it’s not like it’s their rule. It’s the duomo. Our guide was a hilarious woman around mid 60s and about 4’10 or so. She had us cracking up constantly, mostly to keep line cutters out of our “skip the line line” , but she was also quite knowledgeable and most definitely an old hand at the guiding service. Would highly recommend

Everything went really good. When I first read the previous comments, I was a bit concerned, but it was everything well organised. There is no luggage allowed in the cathedral, so we could leave it in a safe place for during the tour for no extra charge. The lady was well prepared, she told us a lot of stories about the city, the buildings etc. It was really interesting. We are happy we took this tour and would higly recommend it.

Worth it to skip the long lines

This (mostly) got me what I wanted - skip the long ticket/door lines. I didn’t need the walk-around-the-outside tour, the audio, etc., but it was only an extra 15-20 minutes before entering. Once we were inside I said thanks and went my own way. The tour operators and guide are definitely “negotiating” the entrance with friends on the inside. It seems a little unregulated, but worked for my group! They were all very nice and acknowledged that I just wanted inside, no tour needed. There were about 25 in the group. Don’t bring luggage or backpacks; that seemed to pose an issue in the “negotiations.” The lines were really long, even for low season. $23US was perfect for getting me in the door without waiting hours in line. This is for the cathedral and dome only. No dome climb. I purchased the Viator tour about 3 hours before the tour. Would recommend; just know what you’re getting.

Deceiving visit of the Duomo

After travelling through Italy for ten days, this was possibly the worst tour that we went on. The guide was hardly understandable either in English or in Italian. She was not well prepared on the subject, not organised with the tickets, and spent half of the visit sorting out ticket / administrative issues with the other visitors. We had booked visit to be in Italian, as we are native Italian speakers, visiting an Italian city. We were informed at the start of the tour that it would be in English, despite these specific booking details. The guide then tried to do the other half of the tour in Italian, but as previously stated, her level was quite poor. Besides the language issue, we were quite surprised about how little the guide knew or discussed regarding the history, architecture or artistry of the Duomo. Most of her comments were superficial, and equivalent to reading an entry-level brochure. Nb: do not expect this tour to give access to the Battistero or the church Santa Reparata below the Duomo

A nice way to see the cathedral and not spend a lot of time in line waiting to get in. The organizer of the tour was not very pleasant however the tour itself was nice. The tour does not take a lot of time to complete. The tour guide did a very nice job describing the history of the cathedral and the artwork.

The tickets shouldn’t have been available to book on 12/25 bc the cathedral was closed. We were told to come on the 26th instead but still the cathedral was closed, and the tickets we received wouldn’t work to go up the duomo. We saw the museum and bapistry but would have been better off buying same day tickets from the local vendor

Absolutely horrible! Arrived on time to get told to take my bag 100 yards away to put away, okay no problem. Return back after seeing the ticket purchase on the paper was for the bruschetti experience. I was then told I did not pay for that experience even though I went and confirmed with the duomo stand. Before I could get ticket to climb bell tower the owners said I had to leave a good review or we couldn’t get them. We traveled 4700 miles to see the duomo. DO NOT SUGGEST, SCAMMER LIKELY!

We had a terrible time because your tickets did not work. You need to give me a refund because the email I received would not allow me to link to a ticket and instead got the "oops" message although I tried several times. I asked the folks at the ticket office and they were unable to help me. I tried to access your assistance but got no response either. My booking number is 1473449139 and you should already have my credit card info for issuing a refund of 31.40 euro

We were stuck outside the Duomo a few feet from a loud and scary construction crane for nearly half an hour while the guide failed to convince the gatekeeper to let us through. We asked for a refund but were denied.

Great tour guide, very knowledgeable, but also to the point. We did quite a few tours on our European honeymoon and this was notable as it kept us interested, and was worth the price to skip the line. Although, beware, we did still wait at entrance for a good 15-30 minutes, but still better than the line to buy tickets. Would recommend this tour.
