What To Expect

This unique, full-day (8.5-hour) Oahu photo tour begins in Waikiki with a hotel pickup in a spacious, air-conditioned van.

Join the professional photographer tour guide who will, throughout the day, point out the specific details of photography that are oftentimes not seen by the untrained eye. Learn how to use light, and discover what framing, shutter speed, focal points and other important topics mean to composing a great image. Then explore the best places — and find the best angles — in which to take pictures on this breathtaking island. It’s the best of both worlds: elite instruction with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

The specific destinations and subject matter will vary depending on the day and the time of year, but some of the possibilities include sweeping coastal vistas, pristine beaches, sacred heiaus, flowing waterfalls, dramatic mountain valleys and in the wintertime, big waves and fearless surfers. Also, look for Hawaiian monk seals and green sea turtles.

Along the way, learn about Hawaii’s history, its wildlife and the geography from the naturalist guide who is not only an expert in photography, but also a Hawaii insider with an in-depth knowledge of the island of Oahu.

This full-day photography tour is suitable for all skill levels — from beginners to advanced shooters, using everything from smartphones to high-end DSLR cameras. There will be a break for lunch (own expense) on Hawaii’s North Shore to relax and get a taste of the local flavors.

At the end of the day, walk away with some incredible images, an abundance of professional photography tips that will last a lifetime and an appreciation of Oahu’s rich history and culture.

This photography tour ends with a hotel drop-off in Waikiki.

So Beautiful and Interesting
Kelci_T, Aug 2023
Our tour guide, Jenny, was so knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and consistently shared interesting facts/tips about the island. She was funny, bubbly, and sweet. I highly recommend Jenny as a guide to anyone interested in this tour! Plus, the ocean views are incredible!

The trip was very enjoyable despite the cloudy weather for the first half of trip. Jenny took us to the right spots including the sea turtles. She also shared a lot of general information on Oahu. She had a lot of tips for cell phone photography however i expected more suggestions and tips for regular camera photographers. She did give us framing suggestions. My wife and i had a very enjoyable day and enjoyed Jenny as our tour guide.
Must do 🤩

Wonderful tour, I found out how to use settings on my phone that I did not know existed. Great food at the North Shore. Unexpected, fun stop at the coffee roasting facility for an afternoon snack. Great that the tour is limited in size. Wear good walking shoes.
I would do this again!!!!
David_W, Jul 2018
She taught us all about how to use our cameras to get the shots we wanted. Since it was a small group she visited with us and chose some photographic venues that were a bit off of the beaten path, but really fun to photograph. Since she has been in Hawaii for many years; she was a great tour guide. I feel that the tour was a good value

I enjoyed the individual tips on use of my camera. Marie was a great guide.

Linda H, Jan 2018
First, I was contacted by them because supposedly, one of their tour people were off sick, so the tour and time I chose was going to be cancelled. I was offered to go on an earlier one the same day, or else go a whole different day. Since I wouldn't be available that other day and wanted the photography tips for the rest of my vacation, I agreed. I was told they'd pick me up at a name brand coffee shop in front of my hotel. Now here is the mixup. When I asked, in my hotel lobby, just where the coffee shop was, I was told there wasn't one at that hotel and the closest one was several blocks away so I ended up walking several blocks in the dark before 6am to the meeting place. Luckily there were several Hawaiian men sitting out front who took me under their wing as I waited past the meeting time. Finally I was called on my cell, and more or less chastised for not being where I was supposed to be. Trying to explain that there was no coffee shop in front of my hotel and where I was, I was told that my hotel didn't exist? At this point Chaz the Hawaiian man, took the phone from me and tried to straighten out which hotel I was staying at, and where I was waiting. Then when he asked if she needed directions, she said No and hung up on him. He was quite upset saying that she was not displaying the Hawaiian Aloha spirit, must be from the mainland, and make sure I didn't tip her. LOL I had to provide the hotel name and address when I booked on Viator, but the tour guide later showed me a sheet of paper with another hotel name and address on it. So I don't know really who was in the wrong. She showed up maybe 20 minutes later and I was stuck alone way in the back of the van since I was now the last one picked up. She talked most of the time we were driving but it was very hard to hear her way in the back. She seemed to pay much more attention to the young guys with the big fancy cameras while I felt like I was being punished or something except for the one or two times she threw me a crumb. We stopped at some nice areas that I may not have gotten to see, and I got one camera tip that I was able to use for the rest of my vacation. Oh ya, AND even though I was told we would be back at a certain time, we ended up running over which now was causing a problem with the other group I was supposed to meet to go to the luau. Had to make calls and scramble to figure that out, but she did drop me at a different location so that I could meet up with my group. I wasn't able to clean up and change before the luau but had to go straight to it. Of all the tours I booked through Viator, I'd say this turned out to be the most disappointing.

Highly recommend this tour for all photographers! Whether you're wanting to learn more about your camera, manual settings or just professional tips on placement, light, motion etc. then this is time well spent with Blue Hawaii Photo Tours. Marie very kindly followed up on my reservation before the tour, picked me up at my hotel and made the experience and advice very rewarding. I'm now putting into play the many learnings and tips she shared with us and I'm really enjoying the results, fair to say I've taken my photography up to a higher level. Mahalo Blue Hawaii! My wife and I had a wonderful time on this tour with Marie. I would recommend this tour for anyone, whether you are a newcomer to Oahu or if you have been there several times. We've been to Oahu four times and Marie still took us to places we had never been before. And everywhere we went was a beautiful and amazing spot. Marie was very helpful with our cameras and explaining about different techniques to try to get the best picture possible. She also is very knowledgeable about the island and the different places we visited. Our photos turned about amazing and they will be treasured for always. If you are on the fence about choosing this tour, don't hesitate, you couldn't ask for a better way to spend your day. Lisa and Dan, May 2017.

This a great tour and unsurpassed value for beginners and experts alike. Our guide was Evan and he brought us through a multitude of East to North coast locations that we would never have found on our own. Evan made sure he helped everyone get the most of the photo opportunities with both compositional and technical advice. He was also well versed on the history of the island, often pointing out things like a cave-marked hillside where royalty was often buried - explaining why and how they were buried. I am a professional photographer, so didn't need much help took the tour to get to the most promising locations but Evan did often point out things that I had missed. And he walked another photog learning a new camera through using different camera modes at each stop. We stopped for lunch at a local lunch truck and the food was great. Continued up the coast to the north Shore to see the many 'secret' spots and then to the Pipeline. The crowning event was finding two sea turtles sunning themselves on Turtle Beach. Again, a great opportunity to see locations we never would have found on our own, with a very personable, talented photo tourguide.

What an amazing tour!!!! Marie is a sweet woman and an amazing photographer. My daughter and i had so much fun on her island tour. She took us to beautiful places and we stopped at a great hidden lunch spot. She taught us so much about our cameras and how to take better pictures. We learned a lot. I like the intimate tour...we had 4 people and got personal attention. A man in our group had a smart phone and she gave him tips on how to take better pictures. I wish i lived in Oahu so i can take this tour and others she offers all the time. Marie is the best...take this tour if you want to see Maries beautiful Oahu!!!

I took this tour as I wanted to get a bit more experience in using my new camera. There were four of us on the tour one being my wife who is not really in to photography but she enjoyed the tour and the locations we were taken to. Evan was our tour guide and drove us around and explained the history of the places we visited. He answered my queries on the set up of my camera and the best settings to use for the different shots. Perhaps a bit more explanation on composing the shot would have been helpful. He was friendly and drove in a very safe manner. I would have liked to have gone to a waterfall but perhaps time did not permit.

My wife and I were picked up from our hotel in the morning and taken to some very scenic locations around the island. The advice and tuition that we received from a very knowledgable and friendly tour guide, who clearly knows her way around a camera was outstanding. We would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get the best out of their camera. Thank you Jenny for a wonderful day and some very helpful and insightful tips.

Brillant tour where everything went smoothly. The guide is a professional photographer who was able to share her knowledge and expertise and I got some good photos from the day as well as seeing some very scenic spots on Oahu. I very much enjoyed the day and would highly recommend this to any budding photographers out there.
