What To Expect

Greet your team of expert guides at a central La Paz location and climb aboard an air-conditioned vehicle for the hour-long ride to La Cumbre, a place whose name translates as ‘the summit’. On arrival, disembark and absorb the spectacular surroundings as your guide provides an in-depth safety briefing. Capture photographs of the low-slung clouds and forest-smothered mountains before jumping onto your bike and embarking on the ride of your life.

Begin your death-defying descent of a serpentine road termed Camino de la Muerte, or Death Road, by Bolivian locals. Enjoy the adrenaline surges as your soar down a road christened the world’s most dangerous by numerous organizations; feel the wind in your hair and the frantic race of your heart as you descend 11,800 feet (3,600 meters) downhill.

Stop intermittently along the way to revitalize with water and snacks and to capture photographs of the dramatic scenery. Enter the subtropics of the dense Amazonian jungle and commence the most difficult part of the ride; avert your gaze from the sheer drops of 3,300 feet (1,000 meters), beside which there appears to be little path, and focus on the refreshing mist coming from waterfalls on your right.

Arrive at the village of Yolosa and return to the safety of a main road for the smooth ride to La Senda Verde Ecotourism Resort. Revitalize with a steaming shower or plunge into the cool waters of the swimming pool, and then appease your appetite with a hearty pasta buffet. Observe a colorful tableau of rescued wildlife and take in the spectacular jungle scenery as you rest aching muscles.

Return to the minivan for the scenic drive back to La Paz after relaxing thoroughly. Opt to stay over night in La Senda Verde or venture to Coroico, a beautiful town surrounded by the verdant splendor of the jungle.

We spent two weeks in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, and this was by far the best tour we did. The meeting point was centrally located, and we were able to eat a delicious non-rushed breakfast before the ride out to the mountain. We actually returned to the restaurant because it was the best food we had in Bolivia. The equipment provided was appropriate for the conditions, and the bikes were top notch. The first half of the ride is downhill on a mostly paved highway. This was a good opportunity to get acclimated to the altitude, climate, and bikes. The second half was the Death Road you are familiar with from the YouTube videos - narrow, gravel, downhill thrill ride. It is as fast and intense, or slow and casual as you want it to be, as the guide in front goes at a quick pace, while the guide in the rear sticks with the casual riders. Everyone gets caught up at the frequent rest points, where the guides use the time to talk about the road itself, and to explain what is coming next. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, personable, and helpful. They made this ride probably my favorite ride of my life, and I have logged thousands of miles on road and mountain bikes. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experience. I enthusiastically recommend this tour and this company.

Our guides Chelo and Ruben made me feel safe throughout the experience. They were funny, professional and caring all at once. The equipment is top tier, food was plenty, healthy and fresh. Visiting the wildlife refuge was a great way to end the experience. Thank you so much Gravity Tours ☺️

Really recommend Gravity, had such a fun day! Noel, Alvaro & Johnny were great, we felt safe throughout.
Fantastic tour - you should totally do it if you are in La Paz

Fantastic tour. We were lead by Damian & team and started by riding down a sealed road (from 4,000m+ above sea level!) which was fun for fast downhill riding (if you wanted to ride fast), followed by a short test ride off-road before embarking on the Death Road. We ended at the Animal Sanctuary for lunch which was tasty and plentiful, and took an optional guided tour (provided by the Sanctuary) which was well with the 80 BOB - particularly if you like cats (jaguar, tiger, wild cat etc.). I'd do it again and recommend it to others!
Beautiful Ride

This was a lot of fun. Though not without danger -2 that day fell off their bikes, one from another group broke his arm. As long as you heed the guides' advice, it's not as dangerous as it sounds when you look into it. There's also the option to ride in the van during any areas you don't feel comfortable, which my wife took advantage of. The guides did a great job throughout and it's a beautiful ride.
Best of the Best Tour!

Our guides, Noel and Luis, did an excellent job of accommodating all skill levels and speeds. Communication was excellent so that we were always prepared for the next segment of the trip. A member of our group had to stop part way and it was very convenient to have the tour van available so that they could ride the rest of the way down with our driver Juan Carlos (who's driving felt very safe). All in all a very pleasant experience.
Thank you Gravity Assisted!

We had Marco and Ruben as our guides and Rafael as our driver. Such a fun group of guys! They had a lot of mountain biking and death road experience between them, they catered to everyone’s needs, and we had so many laughs along the way. A very memorable experience.
Best tour yet and the best guide we’ve had

We had an awesome time on our tour!! This is definitely the best one and our guide was an absolute legend. The zoo at the end was a really nice treat and we were looked after the whole time! Definitely book this one if your keen to head down ‘death road’
Amazing

Great Tour, Amazing guides with amazing knowledge and all the equipment needed in case of a need for a rescue. (Luck this was not needed) Note some other companies don’t have all the right training & equipment so be aware, this is a very dangerous ride so make sure you don’t just pick your Death Road experience on price. (Other companies have lost people) Next time I want to try the “Chacaltaya to Zongo” Ride 😊 Thank you once again the the team that guided us!!! Frankie
Great experience

I was in a group of 6 travelers and 2 guides, who were very competent and give lots of safety guidance so I felt safe and in control. The scenery of the mountains and cliffs were incredible and you also have a lots of pictures as souvenirs in the end. I highly recommend it !!!

One of the best day tours I’ve ever done. Gravity Bolivia are absolute professionals, best bikes and support team. Gary was the guide, total professional, very knowledgeable and made the tour great for all riders as everyone were at different ability levels. Bonus of the day was Santi the bus driver drove back up death road so we got to go down on bikes and back up on the bus AMAZING experience.

Arnar S, Feb 2018
Weeks before the tour I was contacted. A confirmation was required. A strange request as I had already paid the tour in full. I was instructed to show up with a copy of my pasport. I still do not know what that was good for. Emphasis was put on punctuality. Approximately ten minutes past departure time a fellow showed up in the tiny cafe, the meeting point. He did not introduce himself. He turned out to be one of the two guides. The tour was delayed by one hour. The bus was uncomfortable, no seat belts. That is utterly irresponsible in the dangerous traffic in Bolivia. The first mentioned guide was in charge. And he seemed to like it, even to the point of demanding good rewiews of the tour or none. Introducing himself and the others he excluded one of the participants. Keeping people in line was obviously important. Using derogatory remarks to that end is not acceptable behaviour. Neither is unmoderated circumstances taken into account bear drinking before the tour is over. Both guides seemed to know their bicycle-ology, checking the condition of the bikes. The bikes were suberb, great tools. All the other equipment was very satisfactory. The guides were helpful and politely instructive in finding the gear that fitted best. The ride itself was fantastic, too many stops though and repeatedly drawing attention to the fact that the road was windy and uneven was rather tidious. Everyone knew that. I felt my life more endangered in the bus on the roads than on the marvellous bike on the Death Road itself. The sandwich handed out in tne bus was dry as a dessert and untasty. The food served at the animal refugee was okey, the glass of cold bear was a delight as were the showers. The meeting point seemed to be the natural drop off point too. The guide disagreed. The participants were dropped of in the middle of the extremely chaotic city, La Paz, where the tour operator found it convenient.

This was an amazing day. Our guide Neil was great, he was friendly, he gave us warnings when their were obstacles in the road, and he was very clear in his safety instructions. The bikes we had were really good, and were clearly better than other groups we saw. The meal at the end was pretty good, and the hot showers were great. This was the highlight of Bolivia for my wife and I, and was much better than a similar bike ride we took in Peru.

This tour, with Gravity La Paz was amazing! Our guide Noel was fantastic a really nice guy and the perfect combination of fun and professional which is important considering the potential safety hazards of this activity. The bike was in good condition and appropriate for the ride, the optional safety gear gloves, pants and jacket were much appreciated and the compulsory helmet properly fitted. Any assistance required was given including bike repairs for flat tyres and medical attention. Our bus driver Willy was awesome, who followed us as the safety vehicle the whole way down and then took us back up Death Road in the dark afterwards! The snacks and lunch provided were great and plenty of water was available to refill bottles. The ride itself was amazing - the scenery incredible and the degree of difficulty moderately challenging however the potential consequences quite serious. I would definitely suggest that to enjoy this experience to the fullest, participants should be fairly familiar with and confident on a bike. An excellent Bolivian adventure!
