With more than 20 holiday markets across the city, follow a guide through Munich's Old Town to explore the city's festive offerings, including Christkindlmarkt in Marienplatz. What To Expect

Your 2-hour tour begins in central Munich, where you’ll meet your guide in mid-afternoon and head out into the ornamented streets of Munich's Old Town. Make sure to bundle up until your first cup of Glühwein or cider (own expense).

Take in the scent of spice cake as you make your way to Christkindlmarkt in Marienplatz, Munich’s oldest Christmas market. Browse the stalls filled with toys, gifts, and homemade delicacies available for purchase.

Continue to the Sendliger Tor market, followed by the Christmas village in Munich Residenz. Your final stop will be the Medieval Market near Odeonsplatz, where you’ll discover an ode to the Bavarian Christmas markets of the Middle Ages. See performances, medieval buskers, colorful costumes, and handicrafts for sale.

Along the way, learn about the history of Munich’s centuries-old markets and Christmas traditions from your guide. You'll also be treated to a lebkuchen, a gingerbread-like cookie that has been a Christmas staple since the 14th century.

Your tour ends at the Medieval Market, where you can continue exploring on your own.

Shopping with Christmas lore

Emmet was an amazing tour guide and introduced us to markets we had not seen and shared a wonderful wealth of Christmas history. We initially got lost and rather than moving ahead he came out to find us four blocks away. He took special care to make sure we were informed and felt ready to venture out to shoot on our own Great tour !

This was the perfect way to start our time in Munich. We are visiting for the first time and especially wanted to see the Christmas markets. We had just gotten off the an international flight that morning. So this tour was just right amount of walking and a great way to get an overview of the markets and learn some history of Munich too. I would highly recommend this tour!

Not expensive but not worth it either

Tour guide was nice. She quickly walked us through about 4 different christmas markets, but we didnt slow down to talk about the local foods or crafts or anything so dont plan on doing that on this tour. You’ll definitely need to come back and slowly walk through to see all the booths and stalls and unique foods and drinks. Not sure I would do this again. Preferred to stroll thru 3 of the mkts and the streets of Munich myself for 9 hours the day before so was able to take in so much more on my own. This tour didnt meet most of my expectations so I probably wouldnt do it again.

We apologize if this tour did not line up with your expectations, sorry for that. The tour is timed for 2 hours, therefor in order to further explore the christmas markets, it makes sense to return at a later point to take your time.

Patrick, a local resident of Munich, was excellent in his tour. We were a small group of just 6 people which made an intimate tour. Patrick had a good itinerary worked out to see and experience the most in our two hours together. He even handed out Advent calendars. Highly recommend this tour.

Lucy was amazing! We toured several markets all with a different theme. She explained all of the traditions that were on display at each market and what to eat and drink. Medieval, nativity and fairy tail each market was beautiful and unique. She also gave us a lot of history along the way. Well worth the time and money!
