What To Expect

This full-day tour begins from downtown Nashville.

Once in Franklin, visit those sites close to where the Union and Confederate armies fought during the Civil War. Hear stories from the knowledgeable guide about the Battle of Franklin, fought on November 30, 1864 and known by many as the five bloodiest hours of the Civil War.

Visit the Carter House, which served as the Federal headquarters during the battle, and the Lotz House, which became a makeshift field hospital after the war. Both places have been refurbished, but still show their battle scars from the war with bullet and cannonball holes as well as blood stained floors and walls.

Then, spend time in the town of Franklin to shop, eat (own expense) and view some of its historic sites. From there, it’s off to the Carnton Plantation, a 48-acre farm which also served as a Confederate field hospital after the Battle of Franklin. A graveyard for the Confederate soldiers that perished remains — the largest private Confederate cemetery in the United States.

Thomas was such a great tour guide. Kept our interest with stories and appropriate funny tidbits. He was so knowledgeable. Really made the tour worthwhile!
Great tour, lots of information!!

Great tour! Lee was an amazing driver and was very thoughtful. You learn a lot of history and some walking required. We had 3 great tour guides. Chairs you can ask for if you need one, standing for most of the day. Franklin is a great little city, great places to pick for lunch or ice cream. Weather was great, some of the tour is outdoor and some indoor. It was a little long for my young 11 yo and older parents. But would still highly recommend it.
Great Civil War Tour

The Carnton House and Carter House are the best of the 3 tours. The Lutz House was very small and there were several other tours happening so it was kind of crowded. The Lutz House could be dropped from the tour and allow more time for lunch in Franklin and time to walk into the downtown shops.
Awesome

The whole trip was excellent. Our driver knew everything about the Civil War down to the smallest detail. The tour guides at each stop were excellent and they also knew every little detail! Would highly recommend,

Great tour
Victoria_M, Apr 2024
I wasn’t sure what this tour was going to be like, I was a bit concerned that you would just get the same story at each place, but it was great. The stories fitted seamlessly together at each house and the commentary the driver guide gave us on the way. Our driver (Roger) was brilliant. So well informed. And the bus was really comfy. The stop in Franklin was the perfect amount of time. Sometimes it can feel a bit wasted but it was spot on. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Fabulous

Fabulous information from the guides. The homes were beautifully restored to the infamous time of the Civil War.
Great experience

Knowledgeable and pleasant tour guides the one thing I would change is this question because I am unable to submit my survey without going past 100 characters
Great history lesson!
CONSTANCE_O, Apr 2024
I love learning about history and enjoyed all three homes that we visited. The Carter House was impressive with the bullet holes in the out buildings and main house. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a wonderful storyteller!!!

All the guides were very knowledgeable. It was great to hear more about American history that we didn't get in school. Very interesting to see where an actual battle took place.

Awesome tour
Larry_E, Feb 2024
Great Tour & knowledgeable guides. Great bus driver !! The 3 sites were amazing and incredible historical information.
Neat places and town. Not all guides good.
Geraldine_L, Feb 2024
Each place had at least one thing I’ve never seen before and I’ve been to many sites. The 1st tour guide was excellent. The other two knew a lot but the Carter House one spoke low with a real twang and the Lotz House guy was all over the place so both hard to follow. Town had excellent food. Tour bus driver (I think Jim) told us a lot too and was excellent.
The guides help bring you...
Amy_S, Feb 2024
The guides help bring you into how it must of felt like to be there at the moment the chaos erupted.
An eye opener for sure! A great way to learn and spend the day exploring!
Connie_F, Feb 2024
Lotz house guide was the best. Loved his animation and theatrics. The other two spoke too fast and were difficult to understand at times. Overall, the whole experience was wonderful and very interesting, but the circumstances of the war were horrific! It was very windy and raining, but fortunately the tours were mostly inside. Stopping for lunch was a highlight. Loved the cute historical downtown of Franklin. Our Grayline bus driver, Ken, from Nashville was very informative to and from the battlefield and house tours. My husband's health prevented him from standing for long periods, so the guides provided him with a folding chair. I highly recommend!!
Excellent History Lesson
Loretta_F, Feb 2024
