Excellent tour-sensitive and thought-provoking
Christine_C, Apr 2024
I am glad Belle Meade openly discusses the lives, extreme hardships, and oppression of the enslaved. Our guide was sensitive and knowledgeable. She obviously had done extensive research.
Informational tour but could they do more?
Christina_N, Apr 2024
Very good tour and had a lot of information about the history of slavery within the plantation as well as interactive discussion about the history of slavery in general. They did mention that they used proceeds to “continue researching the stories of the slaves that were at Belle Meade” but would love if they would consider to use some of the proceeds to make some reparations to those who’s families were slaves there, they indicated that they knew about 66 out of the 136 slaves identities so it seems they could find their families? It felt quite disrespectful to be selling wine with pictures of the slaves on it in the gift shop with no indication that those funds would be helping with the continuation of reform in this country.
The truth

Anastasia was an excellent and aware tour guide. As an African American I loved her delivery and empathy of the historical significance of those that had been enslaved. I would recommend this tour to anyone that wants an introduction to real life on a plantation without whitewashing the experience.

Anastasia was a wonderful, knowledgeable tour guide. She recommended so many resources to explore further. Outstanding guide!
A journey worth the while!

Our guide Tom really had a nice way of engaging us in the complex and confronting story of enslavement on this Plantation.

Really enjoyed the beauty of the farm. The guide was very nice, but I was disappointed in the presentation. I wanted to hear facts concerning slavery on the farm, NOT opinions, or possibilities.
The tour itself was great...
Dan_H, Apr 2024
The tour itself was great with an informative young lady explaining the history and information about the areas included in the tour The visit I may have easily given a five star higher rank if the transportation to and from would have been easier as taxis seemed to not be interested in traveling to and from the downtown core if somehow more options were affordable to add to your costs you would likely obtain more guests
We will be back!

Great history lesson.

The Guide shared both sides of history for the family and for the families enslaved. Good information on the horse line and how far it is linked to current day horses and the number of winning horses in the Derby.
Interesting historical site

The Belle Meade tour was a look into an aspect of Nashville’s history. Interesting & not meant to be forgotten. Our guide was very informative. The site is in a nice location & the wine tasting at the end left the tour on a pleasant note.
Informative and thought provoking

Anastasia was an excellent guide. She was informative yet passionate on the subject of the sad era of slavery(especially for women and children) She provided facts and insight on the times that many do not know. We especially enjoyed the thought proving questions and discussion!

Our guide Anastasia was soooo good. This tour was much better than we expected. We would recommend this tour to everyone.
Brilliant tour!

Although the information was harrowing at times, this tour was very insightful. Our tour guide (I forget her name) a lovely lady - was passionate about the history of her home state, and delivered the information with sensitivity. Being the only person of colour on the tour, I didn't feel awkward - although the stories of Americas complicated racial history was really difficult to swallow at times. We didn't do the mansion tour, coming from England we've seen the inside of plenty of stately homes and it was more the African- American history that were interested. Not so much the history of those who enslaved them. This tour is quick, but reasonable considering the price you pay - totally worth it!
A truly eye opening and impactful experience! Highly reccommend !

The Journey to Jubilee was honestly incredible and went above/beyond my expectations. Our guide Taylor was super knowledgable, and we learned so much from her. She really respected the land and the experiences of the African Americans who were instrumental in running Belle Meade. She made the journey all about them, not just their sufferings, but their accomplishments as well. I'd highly recommend this experience, especially as someone travelling from outside of the US; it really gave us a first hand look at one of the darkest periods of American History, but also how far they've come. Taylor made sure to end the tour on a positive note, celebrating the achievements of Black Americans and a promise to continue to uncover the names and stories of more persons who were enslaved at Belle Meade. Support this great historical place and take this highly educational tour!
Awesome

Taylor was very knowledgeable about Meade Belle and everything that occurred during slavery. Very interesting and loved the experience!
Get a realistic view into the lives of slaves
Donna_S, Jul 2023
Taylor the guide was very engaging and challenged us to think about the experience of the slaves on the plantation and did not try to sugar coat the benefits to the plantation owners or their treatment of their slaves. I am so glad that tours like this one are finally focusing on the lives of the slaves that enhanced the wealth of their owners.
Beautiful, yet fulfilling.

My wife and I have never visited before and for our 6 year anniversary we made a plan to visit. The experience was amazing and the wine to die for. My wife enjoyed the tour and the walk around the grounds. I would recommend this place to anyone.
