This experience was the highlight of our week-long trip in and around Oaxaca. I’ve been to Oaxaca twice before and cannot recall a more enjoyable day here. My wife, my son (11), and I had a fabulous time. The entire staff is warm and welcoming and the grounds where one spends the day is an oasis. Miguel, the chef/owner, is extremely knowledgable, friendly, and funny. He is a classically trained chef whose goal is to teach his customers about real Oaxacan food (not the interesting but less-than-authentic foods in the restaurants catering to tourists). He does so in a very relaxed atmosphere where there are no set rules and there are no mistakes—just experiments. He discusses the pre-colonial foods and how they changed and morphed with time and Europeans. Then you cook traditional foods over open, wood-fired ovens/stoves. There is plenty of water for hot days as well as a giant supply of beer (gratis) and even mezcal for the more daring. We especially liked being able to play with Miguel’s three super-friendly (and mellow) dogs. The whole thing is worth the price because one won’t forget the experience. And what one learns can be translated into experiments back home.

      Great experience
      Georgina_M, Apr 2024
Great experience with a lot of fun and amazing food included. We went to the market to start our class to pick our ingredients. We then chopped and meal-prepped as we had a cold beer. We choose the type of mole we wanted to cook. Vicky and Elsa were so sweet and helpful so was our driver Monica. We loved the experience
      Unforgettable Experience.

This was the experience of a lifetime, especially for a self-designated “foodie” or true food nerd. I was traveling alone and felt immediately welcomed by my group, our driver, Chef and everyone else who had a hand in making the day so special. You learn a ton about the history of Oaxacan cuisine up until current day, you taste every flavor of what makes it so incredible, you get your hands dirty in the best way possible…all in a beautiful setting with a gorgeous outdoor kitchen and whimsical community table. Thank you to Chef, Moni and everyone else who made this an unforgettable day. I will return and bring friends next time…it’s too special not to share!
      Personalized excellent experience

Pick up was on time, we went a little out of the Oaxaca central and the Chef's property with a nice seating area and outdoor kitchen. He gauged what the group is interested in and then plans the menu. Enjoyed the entire experience thoroughly.

We loved hearing the history of Chef and the history of the food in Oaxaca. He listened to our requests and built the menu we ate around them. The day was thoroughly enjoyable.
Skip it, unless Diego does the class
      Matt_S, Feb 2024
Diego, the siew chef, conducted the first half of the class. He was outstanding, nice, charming, we all enjoyed his time. Miguel, the chef, showed up halfway through and the vibe went south immediately. Miguel spent his telling everyone that would listen how awesome and successful he was.. the things he owns, etc. He was Borderline creepy to the women in the party. I couldn't wait to leave after spending 3 hours with that arrogant, pompous person
      Response from Host, Feb 2024
thanks for your feed back... 🤣🤣🤣 you should metioned before and I could set a taxi for you to leave as soon as u wish and not suffer... I will love to have the chance to qualify your interest on the complain but, even diego complain about you, cause you was super uncomfortable at the class due dogs and smoke, not interested on anything so, is super easy to criticize but can you do it on your self In the way how you behave on the class?? you are so hilarious ..... saludos!!!
The best cooking class I have ever done
      Zachary_K, Feb 2024
The entire experience was amazing. The location that you take the class has a very chill vibe. It’s extremely relaxed cooking and you never feel rushed. The food that you make will turn out amazing, the tasting that they offer is also delicious. So far my favorite food experience of my trip.
      Wonderful cooking experience in Oaxaca
      Kim_H, Feb 2024
We have recently enjoyed this cooking experience in Oaxaca. And it was exactly what I had hoped for. It was so much more than a class! The setting was peaceful and tranquil with an amazing outdoor kitchen, dining table and farm, complete with animals and a garden. Chef Miguel was engaging, knowledgeable, and facilitated such a good time between the 13 of us taking the class. It was definitely hands on which is what we wanted so we will be able to take so much back with us to Denver! If you want to immerse yourself in Oaxacan cuisine, sign up!
An Oasis of food, culture and friendship
      Jessica_B, Jan 2024
This was not aa much a cooking class as an amazing cooking experience.!! Chef is a friendly, outgoing personality as are all of his staff who welcomed us with stories, coffee and snacks. Then off to the local market to buy some ingredients. The setting on chef’s property couldn’t be more pleasant! We made empanadas for breakfast- grinding the corn and chopping ingredients ourselves. Everyone participants while chef explains the history and development of Oaxacan cuisine from the indigenous peoples of the region to the Spanish colonization and now more modern interpretations of dishes. He taught us to use our hands, our sense of smell and sight to make dishes the way we would like them, not just following a recipe. My husband and I have taken cooking classes in most of the countries we have vacationed to and never been so well educated about the local cuisine. If you are a foodie or a cook and do nothing else in Oaxaca, spend a day in this most pleasant of settings.
      Oaxaca cooking class #1

Chef was so knowledgeable about the culture of food here and that was part of the reason we do cooking classes when traveling. He did not disappoint us! The food experience was top tier. Loved shopping in the market and his garden.
Great way to spend a day for real foodies
      Kieran_H, Jan 2024
Great well informed hosts, lots of very good food, history, beer and mezcal, fun way to spend a day!
Delicious and engaging traditional cooking class
      Benji_A, Jan 2024
This class ended up being one of the sleeper hits of our time in Mexico. The outdoor kitchen was beautiful and really fun to work across the traditional and more modern tools and setups. Our instructors and other staff were so friendly and kind, and we had great discussions about food and culture in our different home places. They were also so knowledgable and excited to share all about their food culture throughout the class, and the trip to the local mercado to gather ingredients was an excellent addition. We ate delicious food from start to finish, with self-serve beers and mezcal, and ended up making the menu of two moles, a sopa azteca and a plantain fritter dessert. We got to meet the incredible friendly dogs of the owner and see the small but mighty farm in the compound where they grow traditional and culturally relevant plants using sustainable methods. If you’re anything like me or my partner, this will be all the food you need for the day (read, save as much belly space for this experience as you can!).
A real traditional Oaxaca cooking experience
      Terry_C, Jan 2024
This was a great experience. So much more than I expected. Miguel Ángel is an encyclopedia of food knowledge and the history an roots of Oaxaca cooking. His enthusiasm permeates the class which was so well organized and orchestrated. Our group of 13 bonded while carrying out the task of making a ton of food that we shared in a fabulous meal at the end of the class. Thank you!
Good for general intro to Oaxacan cuisine but not enough actual cooking.
      Ken, Jan 2024
A very fun and party like environment which was great, I would have liked a bit more instruction and prepare a whole dish all the way through rather than just do some token chopping here and there. We were told to sit down at the table while some of the final steps to the dishes were being prepared, so we didn't get to see how the food was finished and or plated. Our group was also too big so they forced a few of us into a taxi they booked ahead of time and so we had to cut the experience short.
      Response from Host, Jan 2024
hi there! can you please tell me what's cooking??? you need more instructions??? come on, book a private class next time to have full attention. we can do nothing during boiling process so, I asked you, would you like to stay and plate your food or you prefer go to main table to enjoy the freshness., your reply was.. "im ok"..... about taxi, yes, it's our personal driver so is part of the team, so I think having a private taxi is a nice thing unless you prefer a charter....... maybe you should book a charter experience rushing everywhere
      A taste of Oaxacan Cooking
      Randal_M, Dec 2023
We loved the people we met - our fellow cooks and enjoyed working with the staff. We learned the basics of making masa, forming tortillas, cooking with fire, assembling ingredients to make mole and traditional soups. There could have been more involvement from our head chef; contrary to his philosophy, having the tone set by him by actually working with the ingredients in prescribed way would have yielded a richer experience.
      Response from Host, Dec 2023
I understand that theres people who like to be told what to do. This class is about encourage you to work with the ingredientes and enjoy, not to follow directions it the strict way…. apparently this class didn’t work for you. Maybe to basic for some one super skilled like you. Maybe you need something more andvanced like a fine dining cooking class. If that’s then case go to France to book and to learn the basics of refine food It could be more your style
      Wonderful cooking class
      Anna_S, Dec 2023
Wonderful class and very hands on. Miguel let us do majority of the cooking and written recipes received will allow us to make the dishes again!! Food was excellent and the site just right. Learned prehistoric, Hispanic and modern cooking techniques so I can apply them to my modern appliances

This is an excellent opportunity to learn traditional Oaxacan cuisine in a beautiful and authentic setting. Chef Miguel will guide you through a very hands-on process. His team will be around you, making sure the experience is flawless. From the driver, Monica, and every one of the members of the team, it’s clear that their purpose is for the guest to have an excellent experience.
