Overview

Visit the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, and paddle down the Puerto Princesa Underground River on this 8-hour tour. 8+ hour day for a 30 minute experience - pass

Had I been advised that the actual underground river tour itself would last only 30 minutes out of a long day, I would not have booked this. The van from Puerto Princessa City to Sabang Wharf took approximately 1 hr and 45 minutes (and we were nearly the last two be picked up - so this was longer for others). We waited 2 hours at the wharf. Some of this, per our guide, was due to her waiting for others who opted to add the mangrove tour or Zipline. Then she decided not to have us wait any longer and sent us on (but now without a guide). We took the boat to the head of the underground river and waited another hour for the actual tour (30 minute tour) to begin. Then a buffet lunch and back. Again, we were nearly the last to be picked up and the first two be dropped off at our hotel and we were gone for over 8 hours for an experience that lasted 30 minutes.

It would be hard to screw up something as incredible as the underground river so I recommend this trip! The guides were very communicative about expectations for wait times, the drive over was comfortable and they were very on top of picking me up at the airport and making sure everyone got to where they needed to go after the trip. The reason this isn't a five star review is because the wording was a little misleading regarding the "forest walk" in the national park. We were told that we would get to go on a hike and what we did was not a hike at all (200M walk from the landing to the boats to get into the cave) and many of us were disappointed. However, everything else was great and I had a wonderful time. The care that's taken to preserve the cave is admirable and everything was efficient.

Really great experience for our family! We were picked up right from our hotel and the lunch provided was good. We were able to also go down a zipline over the ocean for an additional fee which was really fun. Very nice tour guide.

You drive 1,5 hour to and back for 45 minutes of seeing a cave. It also said “relaxing on sabang beach” but we didn’t do that.

Our listing clearly states that travel time to and from the city may take up to 90 minutes. It also states that the entire tour inside the cave lasts up to 45 minutes. There is an option for an extended tour - up to 3 hours inside the cave - but you booked the regular one. On the other hand, there is ample time for relaxation on Sabang Beach. This is usually done during the waiting time between the boat transfers or after lunch. Nevertheless, we strive to ensure that our itineraries are accurately represented and that our guests have ample time to enjoy each activity included in their tour. We had a great time during the trip. Raf the guide was very knowledgeable and informative, funny and good natured. He was attentive to each member of the team throughout the day, and was happy to answer any questions we had. During the tour it is worth trying several activities (Zipline, Magroove forest boat trip), in the meantime time flies by and at the end you can visit the wonderful underground river.

The underground River is amazing. To protect ecosystem, it’s very dark inside. Tour guide spoke really lightly making inside very quiet. The audio was not working well. If you’re going to El Nido and want to save a day, you can do this tour and bus to El Nido on the same day.

The cave tour was fantastic!! It was so beautiful. Nina & our driver were the best. Got us a boat quickly. Guided us everywhere. We added in the Mangrove tour & requested massages for 4 of us at the last min. She arranged everything perfectly. It was an amazing day that we will never forget.

The entire experience was great. A must see. The bus ride down was a little bumpy and winding, just beware those with motion sickness. The monkeys were a highlight but they almost took my bag😄. Overall highly recommend.

Puerto Princesa Underground River was the most amazing part of my vacations in Philippines. It is one of the 7 new wonders of the world. I liked very much that there is no man's intervention.

Very Dishonest Operator to Avoid if Possible

We had booked this tour expecting we would leave from Puerto Princesa but we then had to stop at Sabang due to change in our travel itinerary as we had a flight to catch the next day. We requested to cancel this tour when it was clear that we wouldn't catch our flight, otherwise. Despite the Viator team being very helpful and trying to explain our situation to this tour operator, the tour operator didn't care that we couldn't attend the tour and were not willing to make some changes so we can catch our flight the next day. Instead they charged us and were extremely impolite with us. I would strongly advice anyone if possible to avoid this tour operator as they are both dishonest and not very polite. Thank you for Viator to try to help and hope we can have a better experience visiting Palawan again

Waste of time and money

In the afternoon we didn't do anything. I didn't know that if not choosing zip line or paddle boat you just wait the others doing their activities, so you actually waste one afternoon and money. Also, the driver of the van was running crazy even when it was raining and that was dangerous. I wouldn't recommend this tour at this price. Find something half day and save time and money for something better. The underground river is not so special, but this depends on everyone's preferences and it's not a fault of the company clearly.

Worth experience, but heads up!

Loved experiencing the cave. It's definitely worth seeing. There's also an option for ziplining and/Mangrove Tour (located at the same place. We chose the Mangrove tour. It was good to know it's upkept by the locals and if you are lucky, you might see a snake in the trees :) Just want to warn folks, that there's a lot of waiting involved. It's about a 2 hour trip from city proper to the wharf, then a line (at least an hour) for the boat transfer to the underground river location, then another wait for your groups turn for your boat to get into the cave, and lastly, whether or not you choose the ziplining, Mangrove or not, you have to wait for the people in your group to complete the activity/activities. Patience is needed. Just have fun and enjoy the experience :)
