Make your way to the Cavour Metro Station, where you’ll meet a local guide for 3pm departure. Set out on foot through the charming Monti district—though it’s just a short distance away from the Colosseum and the Piazza Venezia, Monti retains an off-the-beaten-path feel, and the area's cafes are packed with local workmen, artists, and intellectuals.
Learn a bit about Monti’s history, art, and daily life as you walk to the medieval towers built by the Capocci and Graziani families, then continue to San Pietro in Vicoli, or the Basilica of Saint Peter in Chains, where you’ll find Michelangelo’s remarkable statue of Moses.
Keep walking to the Piazzetta and Santa Maria ai Monti, at the heart of the district’s social life. Visit a local market and explore some of Rome’s most charming alleyways, then take in the towers of Grillo and Milizie. See the ruins of Trajan’s Market, where fragile marble floors offer a beautiful glimpse of life in ancient Rome.
Throughout the tour, the guide will use an iPad and other visual tools to help bring the past alive, and you’ll have the option to stop along the way to try gelato, pizza, and more. You’ll cover roughly .5 mile (.8 km.) during the tour, which concludes in front of San Pietro in Vicoli.
