What To Expect

Your ancient Rome tour starts at Largo Gaetana Agnesi just off the blue metro line. Then walk down to the arena with your guide, and skip the main entrance line with your fast-track ticket. Inside, explore the Colosseum’s first and second tiers while listening to stories from your guide about the brutal events that were once held here, like executions and gory gladiator battles. As you stroll around the perimeter of the amphitheater, try to imagine the ancient crowd of up to 50,000 spectators who cheered as gladiators’ fates were decided by power-hungry emperors.

Next, exit the Colosseum and walk over to the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the city. Get an up-close view of ancient remains like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar, and then walk up Palatine Hill for another perspective of the ruins, including Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

For a more thorough exploration of the Colosseum, in a smaller group format, select the upgrade option when booking for a tour that includes access to the arena floor —sections of the Colosseum that are not accessible to all ticket holders.

This upgrade offers an exploration of the Arena Floor, which was the site of gladiatorial games, staged hunts featuring exotic animals, dramatic executions, and even simulated sea battles. You'll be amazed by the breathtaking view and get a glimpse of the location where the Emperor's box once stood. You’ll see more than most visitors do. Your tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum, as described in the standard tour.

      Tour was good. Coliseum is amazing. Tour Guide was entertaining but too many jokes and hard to tell what was the truth and what was a joke. I don’t want to spread false facts. He was very nice and personable, but very hard to understand his English. We understood about half or a little more of what he said.

      Amazing. Queues were massive 2 hours just to get a ticket. So deff get skip the queue. Our guide Guiseppe was great and very informative being an archaeologist he know his stuff and could answer all queries. Without a guide you cannot really understand the amazing sights you will see. Incredible. A must see.

      Hard to understand guide. She walked too quickly didn’t give enough time for photos she didn’t carry a flag hard to find her at times. Spent too long on trivial matters and wasted our time when repeating info when other guests were not listening the first time. The meeting place for the start of the tour was very difficult to find. Clearer instructions should be provided several guests had the same issue the only positive was skip the line entry

      The tour started on time. The organization was perfect. The tour guide, Simone, was knowledgeable and sometimes funny. We spent plenty of time inside of the Colosseum and then headed to the Roman Forum Palatine Hill which was spectacular as well. We loved it. If you can't walk much, maybe this tour in not for you, although is super worth it.

      We booked this excursion a few days prior to arriving to Rome; and regrettably, the tour guide did not show up nor were they replaced with another guide. We received a printed copy of our tickets to gain access to the Colosseum and conduct a self-tour. It made the experience - meh.
