      Better options are out there!
      Danny_D, Aug 2021
We showed up for our Vatican tour and it went well then after the Vatican tour concluded we quickly discovered that this tour had no transportation scheduled to take us so we had to walk (an hour in 95 degree heat) or pay for additional transportation to the colosseum for our “skip the line self guided tour” No tour guide at colosseum and skip the line basically means nothing as you still wait in line. I would not recommend this package as it would be easier to book Vatican tour and buy colosseum tickets elsewhere. When I spoke to the Vatican tour guide about our concerns she just said “I don’t know, contact your tour site”
      Response from Host, Sep 2021
Hello Danny, I'm not surprised to see this review posted, despite the many messages we exchanged with you upon receiving your complaints and requests for a refund. As we explained to you, refunds cannot be granted for simple failure to read the tour descriptions. We would not have a five star review average gained over 15 years of hard work if we were in the business of scamming and misleading tourists. I am copying the following directly from the tour description online that you booked: --After the Vatican tour, make your way over to the Ancient City and enjoy a self-guided walk through the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill archaeological areas. ---What's excluded Food and drinks Hotel pickup and drop-off Gratuities Transport between the Vatican and the Colosseum I can't imagine how we could make it clearer that A) You make your own way to the Colosseum and B) The Colosseum visit is self guided (without a guide). We stand confident in our position that the tour was delivered exactly as described online. We therefore refused to provide a refund, despite your bullying and threats to defame the company across social media channels. While our industry is still struggling to recover from 18 months of a devastating pandemic that nearly destroyed us, your behavior and this review after taking our Vatican tour which you called "The best tour we have ever taken" is simply shocking. Shame on you.
Skip the Line Vatican Tour and Self Guided Tour
      curlykramer, Oct 2019
Guide (Angelica)was great. However, it was hard to appreciate anything at the Vatican Museums. The masses were overwhelming. We were herded through like cattle. Took us over an hour to get headphones. The guide did a great job keeping us together and sharing very interesting information. We attended the Colosseum self guided part at the indicated time. Make sure you don't have to use the facilities there. Beyond unsanitary conditions. Palatine Hill was fascinating and thankfully quiet. If this is a Skip The Line, we can't imagine what a regular line looks like.
      Response from Host, Oct 2019
Hi curlykra, We don't have any control over the volume of visitors inside the Vatican Museums, but we are experts at navigating our small groups through the crowds :) We don't have any control over the rest rooms inside the Colosseum either. If you wish to complain about them, please write to the venue directly. Thank you! When In Rome Tours
Vatican Museum Historical and Education Tour
      Gem31518, Sep 2019
Sandra our tour guide was excellent in providing us clear instructions from the very start of our tour inside the Vatican Museum and the Vatican. She was very understanding with the group, has managed well the time spent in every importance sections of the museum. She was very knowledgeable of the important historical facts of important figures that has great influenced on the Catholic Faith, Art, Politics, the Papacy and the construction of the Vatican itself. We skipped the Colosseum tour but I would go again if we have the chance and I would recommend this tour to our friends. Timing for the visit though is really crucial. This is a very busy season for tourists to visit and the traffic inside the museum and the Vatican itself affected the flow of our tour. It was so busy with so many people. We would picked another time to come if the opportunity arises once again. But overall, it was great! Grazie!
      Long day
      Daniel H, Jul 2019
The tour of the Vatican was very long as you must proceed through each museum before you reach the Sistine Chapel. The museums were lengthy and our tour guide provided information on just about each statue. We had hoped for more time in the Sistine Chapel and Basilica.
      Tour of two halves
      Mark J, Jun 2019
The first part of our two attraction tour - The Vatican was well done. Professional with clear instructions. Special mention goes to our Vatican guide who I Can only refer to as Mama - her chosen title on the day. She was excellent- enthusiastic and informative- a real star! The tour of the Colosseum was an absolute joke and was the polar opposite of the Vatican. We were instructed to meet at a pre arranged point near the Colosseum at a specific time - 4pm- where we were to have been met by a representative of the company We arrived at the appointed time and place to find no obvious signs of anyone from the tour company. 15 minutes after the appointed time it became apparent that a person waving a Colombian flag was representing the company - even though the flag waver gave no indication of the fact. Once it became apparent he was there acting for when in Rome- we were instructed to wait- no explanation given. There followed a period of about 40 minutes as our group stood watching the Colombian flag wave horse-trading with two individuals who were quite clearly NOT from any official company. At the end of extensive wheeling and dealing between the three we were joined by another group of people who had been introduced to the Colombian by the shady looking pair. Approximately 45 minutes after the agreed time and place and having stood in the hot sun we were frog marched across to the entrance. Simply not good enough - given the company's reputation. The second part of this operation really spoiled our visit tonthe Colosseum. We will not be using the company again and suggest they get their staff and provide a professional service throughout
Vatican excellent, Colosseum ticket not as promised
      Johanna_N, May 2019
Vatican tour was excellent - huge crowds so having a guide was worth it. Colosseum ticket part of package was unclear - given the impression that skip the line ticket was valid anytime - was told that morning it was not valid until 3:30. After meeting group, there were several delays (not sure if our “guide” was confused or what) and we did not enter the colosseum until 4:20. I had a train to catch at 6 so was only able to spend 10 minutes in the Colosseum. This needs to be made clear when package is purchased as people may be planning their day around choosing their own entrance time.
      Response from Host, May 2019
Dear client, Thank you for taking the time to review this tour. It would be extremely helpful to us if you could send us a direct message and include the wording on your tour voucher that left you to believe that this was somehow an open Colosseum ticket....unfortunately every single entry to the Colosseum is now a timed entry, and there is no "wiggle room" here. I would very much like to know what you found confusing, so that we can improve the information we provide for this product across the various sales channels. Thanks in advance!

The Vatican Tour was fantastic. We were in a group of 6 for the private tour. We met at the office which was right by the Vatican. Here we met our tour guide, Paola. She was unbelievable. She knew her facts on the Vatican and answered any or all questions. The tour lasted about 3 hours. Again, I would like to give my thanks to Paola as she was very professional and informative. I would recommend this tour to anyone and if possible request Paola as your guide. I can't say enough about Paola. She is an A number tour guide. Thank you Paola for making this tour great.
      Wasn’t necessary

The tour of the Vatican was good although it was difficult to understand our guide all the time. The skip the line and cost for the Colosseum was was a rip off. Discovered that 2 of my children could have gotten in for free and tickets for the other 3 of us was only $18 at the Colosseum! And there were no long lines when we arrived at 8:30 am. So for us...waste of money.
      Good over all
      Susan_B, Dec 2018
I guess I missed something in the description becauseI thought this was a guided tour of both the Vatican and Colosseum. The Vatican was guided by a very knowledgeable young American expat. She was great at answering questions. My only fault here is that there was a very rushed feeling. As to the Colosseum, I had to find my own transport and find something to do for almost three hours before I could enter. Then I had to purchase the audio tour ( which was very good ).Over all this was a great day, just could have been better without the wait in between and the fact that I did not realize the Colosseum was self guided.
      Great Expeiance

The tour was great. Mauro was a great guide. He was funny and had a lot of interesting facts to share!
Tour Guides are a must to provide insight into these attractions
      Daydream766524, Sep 2018
Both these attractions are Rome highlights. Our Vatican tour guide was excellent, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Skip the lines is also a must since many, many people see these attractions every day. My only criticism is the Colosseum tour is self guided. We upgraded at the Colosseum and we were glad we did. Viator needs to have a tour guide added to its Colosseum ticket.
      Highway to Vaticano!
      Joao M, Sep 2018
It was an amazing experience. Simple, easy and enriching. The tour operator - When In Rome Tours - is amazingly located just a few meters from Vaticano Museum entrance and is very well organized starting from check in.Our guide Maximo (Max) was well above any expectation a true and genuine lover of his job with a endless knowledge of Vaticano. He gave us an amazing experience explaining every detail with some very interesting stories along the 3 hours tours. If we will back to Vaticano we will repeat the experience with Maximo. WELL DONE MAXIMO!!!
      Great Tour
      Jayne_T, Aug 2018
We started the morning meeting at the tour office which was right around the corner from the Vatican. Very easy to find. There we received our headsets. These were basically mini microphones for us to hear our guide even if he was 20-30 feet away from us. Great technology. We received our tickets for the Colosseum that we were going to use that afternoon. We then were able to use the restrooms and relax for a few minutes prior to departing. We left for the tour on time. We thoroughly enjoyed our Vatican Tour with Dario. He was an excellent guide and was very easy to understand. We chose the option to tour the Colosseum on our own that afternoon after 2pm, which gave us time to go back to the hotel and eat lunch and rest. This was a great value for the price. Thank you Dario!
Horrible Tour! Do not use when in rome tours
      138donna, Aug 2018
it was my first time in Italy and for my honeymoon. We were looking forward to seeing the Vatican Museum and Colosseum, the tour guide Lucy was a sweet lady but had no clue about the Vatican Museum, wasnt informative and barely spoke any english. You are better off buying the Vatican Museum ticket on their website and getting in quickly rather than buying with a tour! Now on the other hand please keep in mind the tickets for the colosseum in this package is for after 2pm only AND self guided meaning you will need to wait over an hour under the sun in extreme hot weather to get in. Its easier to get the tickets from tour guides in blue shirts outside colosseum with no wait for a fraction of what is paid here with access to the forum as well!
      Great tour!
      Douglas_D, Jul 2018
We learned so much from our guide Max. He was patient, kind and well informed and enthusiastic! Loved being able to skip the lines (which were about 4 hours long if you didn’t book ahead)
Christina was an awesome tour guide...
      Andrew K, May 2018
Christina was an awesome tour guide. She was very educational, spoke clearly and had to deal with a non-English couple and she was very patient with them. She also made a few jokes and made it enjoyable. The Colosseum is self-guided, but you do not need a 3 hour tour. The ticket gets you the entrance and you can walk around.
The Vatican tour was amazing mainly...
      Ganesh J, Apr 2018
The Vatican tour was amazing mainly due to the guide Christina from Savannah, GA who's very knowledgeable about the culture, the place and the inside story of the Vatican. Very well paced tour and highly enjoyed by all members of our family. Strongly recommend
Our guide Luigi was highly educated...
      Rachael_W, Feb 2018
Our guide Luigi was highly educated on the Vatican and took additional time to answer my fiancés extra questions. Overall a great time. The tour was approximately 4 hours. Meeting at the office was very nice as you can use the facilities, etc. before taking off. The office is located right in the neighborhood over by the Vatican, but can be a little hard to stop from the street so just Google maps the office before you go there to make sure you find it.
My favorite tour so far! It was so...
      Bre W, Feb 2018
My favorite tour so far! It was so nice to be able to go to the colosseum on our own time another day. Long days full of tours can be exhausting, and I feel like you miss out on a lot because you’re rushed. This is the ideal set up, and I learned SO MUCH at the Vatican, our tour guide was fantastic!
Christina was the best tour guide...

Christina was the best tour guide! Very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. I've recommended to family and friends who are planning on travelling to Rome.
