    If you're using Subway/Metro, get off at the Piramide station and take the PIAZZALE OSTIENSE exit. Once you're outside, the meeting point will be on your left-hand side. The check-in begins at 8:15, we depart at 8:30. We use train and cannot wait for latecomers.

  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

The guide, Andy, was spectacular. We felt like we were actually walking with ancient Romans as we toured Ostia Antica.

First off Sonya was an excellent tour guide. She is genuine and you can tell she is passionate about history and Ostia. The company that runs the tours though, seem to not be willing to admit their mistakes in advertising and several of us had confirmations that the tickets were included only to be made to purchase them. It was an excellent tour, Sonya is commended and she was great, albeit longer than advertised, but I would second guess choosing this company or Viator again due to the misinformation.

I am sorry that the policy change we had to make, created such confusion. But, you booked your tour before April 1st, which means the Ostia tickets were not included in the tour price. Viator has issued you the original voucher which contains the correct information on Inclusions/Exclusions. There was no misinformation, just confusion on your part. Thank you!

Met the tour guide outside Piramide station, he was humorous, informative and very helpful as we ride the train to Ostia Antica. Once there he led us on a very informative and interesting tour of Ostia Antica. Loved every minute of it

A fascinating tour of an ancient city's remains, from tombs to temples plus shops, apartments and bath-houses. Our excellent guide was informative and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Ostia Antica and learnt a lot about ancient Rome's supply chain.

Our visit to Ostia Antica was an in-depth look at the unique history of this fascinating place. Our guide Andy explained the importance of the area and the way the existing pieces left at the site can contribute to improving our understanding of life in Rome’s historic empire. Walking these ancient streets, stepping into what were once businesses or people’s homes is something that anyone interested in history would find exciting as well as helpful. It made Ancient Rome less distant and more real.

The guide, Sionia, was excellent. She went out of her way to make the tour a truly informative and memorable experience. The site itself is very interesting but really needs a good guide to bring it to life. I have been to Pompeii thrice, and to Herculaneum, but Ostia Antica provides a much more accessible introduction to Roman life. A must-do tour for anyone visiting Rome.

Sonia provided the best tour I had this trip! She took out little group of three on an extensive, full tour of the ruins and happily went above and beyond what was required. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, kind and made Ostia Antica come alive. I honestly cannot stress enough her willingness to entertain our questions and , often, laugh at our dry jokes. Giortnata eccezionale Sonia!!!

Great tour with a lot of interesting stories about Roman life

This was my second tour and having been there before I was very impressed with Sarah’s knowledge. I learned many new things about Ostia Antica. The only draw back is persons with mobility issues should not be allowed on this tour. One gentleman was so incapable of keeping up it extended our tour by one hour. Plus we had to stop often and wait for him because he is sitting down and resting and had fallen well behind the group. This tour has an uneven road surfaces and many times you are climbing (large) stairs to see the views and that should be explained in the description.

Ostia Antica is great - a bit of a secret that is getting more popular. A short trip by train. Doing it with a guide makes a big difference. Lots to take in so the context and detail matters. Hannah was excellent. Do not hesitate to book. Worth it! And much easier from Rome than Pompeii.

The Ostia Antica tour with Andy was very memorable. He did a great job of providing information and injecting his discourse with humor. He pointed out several notable areas of this city and gave an excellent insight into ancient Roman life and history. You do have to pay for your own train ride and admission, and that was the one thing we thought might be a bit much considering the price of the tour, but we still enjoyed every minute.
