Meeting and Pickup

Meeting point

  • Largo Gaetana Agnesi
L.go Gaetana Agnesi, 00184 Roma RM, Italy

Meet your guide at Largo Gaetana Agnesi, on the little square above the metro line B (blue line) stop "Colosseo". Your guide coordinator will be waiting here wearing a blue City Wonders polo shirt or jacket for easy recognition.

End point

  • Palatine Hill, 00186 Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Italy

What To Expect

Your ancient Rome tour starts at Largo Gaetana Agnesi just off the blue metro line. Then walk down to the arena with your guide, and skip the main entrance line with your fast-track ticket. Inside, explore the Colosseum’s first and second tiers while listening to stories from your guide about the brutal events that were once held here, like executions and gory gladiator battles. As you stroll around the perimeter of the amphitheater, try to imagine the ancient crowd of up to 50,000 spectators who cheered as gladiators’ fates were decided by power-hungry emperors.

Next, exit the Colosseum and walk over to the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the city. Get an up-close view of ancient remains like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar, and then walk up Palatine Hill for another perspective of the ruins, including Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

Optional upgrade to the Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour: Arena Access in a Semi-Private Tour (3 hours)
For a more thorough exploration of the Colosseum, in a smaller group format, select the upgrade option when booking for a tour that includes access to the arena floor —sections of the Colosseum that are not accessible to all ticket holders.

This upgrade offers an exploration of the Arena Floor, which was the site of gladiatorial games, staged hunts featuring exotic animals, dramatic executions, and even simulated sea battles. You'll be amazed by the breathtaking view and get a glimpse of the location where the Emperor's box once stood. You’ll see more than most visitors do. Your tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum, as described in the standard tour.

Guide was pretty difficult to understand, felt like it was first day she was doing that. We spent 2h in the coliseum, lots of people didn’t even stayed until the end of the visits

Our tour guide was exceptional and knew the history down to the most minuscule detail. We wanted a history lesson and we received one.
      Fabulous and intriguing colosseum tour
      Jenny_T, Apr 2024
Excellent tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and The Forum. Our guide Maria Luisa was fabulous! Superb knowledge and really friendly. She was incredibly enthusiastic and clearly knew her stuff inside out. Her stories and photos really brought the tour to life. Having headphones meant we didn't miss anything at all and the tour was a decent pace, meaning we saw everything but were not rushed at all. Would highly recommend this tour and of course Maria Luisa as a tour guide!
      Never had one
      Frank_A, Apr 2024
Terrible. Showed up and no guide was there. Had to call only to be told I was emailed in December advising me they changed date. I had no email in December. Found one in January but it never said anything only had a new date. Viator app did not show new date. I have pics. I am not in Italy on new date. Terrible.
      Great tour

      Great guides make the difference
      Alisa_D, Apr 2024
Giuseppe was a wonderful guide. Incredibly well informed, he led a well paced tour which took us through the Forum and Palantine Hill ahead of the crowds. The wait for our entry into the Colesseum was long, but I don’t think that was within his control. He had wonderful stories, lots of history and clearly a passion for the topic.
      Informative

Eddy was a terrific guide. Knowledgable and personable. Nice to walk through and experience the area.
      Worst Experience
      Tom_M, Apr 2024
What a horrible experience!! They wouldn’t allow us to join in the group because we were 4 minutes late..it had rained and traffic was horrible of course..they didn’t offer another time for us to tour..City Wonders contacted us the next day after I asked for a refund and of course they lawyered up and gave me the legal parts of the meeting time requirements..so READ very carefully before you book at all..I would recommend another company besides City Wonders in Rome..that was a waste of $200..down the drain..they did apologize though..lol..I bet since they got their money up front..will never use them again for anything and highly advise others not to as well!!! 😡😡😤😤🤬🤬
      Definitely worth it!

We loved our tour guide, Ursus! He was very knowledgeable and excited to teach us about the history of the Colloseum and Roman Forum. We felt like we left with a much deeper understanding and appreciation for the history!
      Awesome!

I would like to recommend our guide Ursus for being so knowledgeable about the sites that we visited. His passion put history to life and made our visit magical. He answered all our questions. Our birthday girl was so happy he is excellent we give him a 10/10.

      Excellent tour with Barbra
      Helen_G, Apr 2024
Barbra was very knowledgeable and pleasant, thank you for a lovely tour. We certainly recommend this semi-private guided tour, very worthwhile.
      Julia Was Great!
      Tony_P, Apr 2024
Julia’s background in Art History was obvious with the amount of detail she was able to provide thought the tour. She did an amazing job providing context to all the awe inspiring thing we saw during the expedition.
      ABSOLUTELY NO GRACE PERIOD
      Marcos_T, Apr 2024
Was advised to be there 15 minutes early and due to a chaotic subway arrived 2 minutes after our 15 minutes, but still way before 9am the initial starting time of the tour. Never found the tour guy with the “blue coat” on and after asking multiple tour groups that appeared to be waiting for some that were late, no group was to be found. If not mistaken a phone number is given when reserving the tour but absolutely for what reason? So for that reason I give it a terrible review because we were not able to attend the tour. Oh well.
      So interesting
      Katie_R, Apr 2024
Our guide gave us so much background and insight into what a day at the coliseum may have been like. Very interesting to actually see where everything happened up close.
