    The Tour ends at the Pincio Terrace overlooking Piazza del Popolo. From there it is extremely quick and easy to reach Piazza del Popolo as well as the adjacent Metro stop (5 min walk), but it does require descending a long flight of steps.

What To Expect

Meet your guide at the Borghese Gallery to begin your tour of one of Rome’s most beautiful art galleries. As you wander through the collection of masterpieces by Italian artists like Caravaggio, Bernini, Canova and Titian, your guide will tell you about the stories, techniques and even some secrets behind the paintings and sculptures.

After your gallery tour, head outside into the Villa Borghese Gardens for a walk around the peaceful park, perched above Rome’s busy Piazza del Popolo. Most interesting part of gallery closed

Second floor is closed and that’s where most paintings are. First floor is mostly sculptures which wasn’t the point of our visit so we just left earlier. The only thing to see are two artworks of Caravaggio.

Barbara, our guide was very knowledgeable and made the experience exciting and inspiring. Unfortunately the second floor of the gallery is closed at the moment, but we were told that we can use same tickets to get into Barberini palace.

Great guide. Very comprehensive and interesting tour. Although only the first floor was opened, 2hrs were not enough for visit, all those art are incredible.

Our guide Eddy was excellent! He was very knowledgeable, professional and respectful, with a pleasant sense of humor. He gave his original interesting takes on the sculpture and paintings, as well as on the gardens after the inside tour. We had been to the gallery twice before -- but he added something for us, and could discuss and compare other Bernini sculptures in Rome. Excellent!

Bernini, Caravaggio, and Borghese, the titans of the Baroque come alive for you as Federica guides you through the Gallery. Federica's deep knowledge allowed us to understand the period and the personalities that created such wonderful art. Federica guided us to look at Bernini's masterpieces from different perspectives, seeing and appreciating how great the art was. It was not just a tour of a great Gallery but an education and experience we will take with us as a souvenir of Rome. Thank you, Federica.

The statues by Bellini and Canova are stunningly beautiful. The upper floor of the gallery was closed and a number of well-known pictures were away on loan. We booked an optional guided tour package but this was not available on the day neither was there an audio alternative so we felt short-changed and overcharged. The signage in the rooms for the exhibits is inadequate/poor.

We met at the meeting point and collected our tickets and enjoyed the museum but that is not the point. We paid about 40 euros per ticket ( 3 times the face value) and you can buy them online yourself for 13 euros. Nothing else was included. I understand everyone needs to make a profit and if Viator are adding some value then fair enough like using the huge mark to provide a tour guide then that's ok but here there was ZERO added value. Nothing at all.

Disappointing Visit, Stunning Art

Disappointed that Viator, City Wonder tours used by Viator to distribute the tickets, or the Borghese staff informed us that floor 2 was closed and had been for awhile. We found out as we left the first floor and could not go up to the second. Also we paid Viator 40+ Euro for an entry ticket (no tour) that would have cost 13 directly for a timed ticket. It appears that Viator and other companies buy up the tickets and increase the cost. The only thing the nice City Wonders man did was to find our name on a list and give us 2 tickets. Also, the entry to the Borghese is not easy for people like me with mobility problems. No rails to go down the entry steps. Once inside, a runner is laid on top of the steps making it difficult to get ones footing because the runner is not tacked down. In addition, people with dogs are allowed in the restaurant. 3 women with dogs were next to me at checkout and I found myself having to keep my balance with dogs sniffing my feet and legs as I struggled carrying my food. Soooo, the art was fabulous but the high cost, dogs, mobility challenges, and only seeing half of the exhibits were disappointing.

Expensive for just a ticket.

You are basically buying a museum ticket at twice the price. No tour. But that's what you do if you want to go when it's otherwise sold out. Half the museum is currently closed for refurbishment, so I felt like it was not worth the price.

tedious and irritating

The guide was extremely knowledgeable about art however he only concentrated on a few specific figures and pictures with no info about the rooms , surroundings etc we could overhear other guides who were much more interesting ! our guide went on at great length and minute detail with stories and background that was far too long and meant we saw very little - maybe 5 pieces .
