What To Expect

Choose from one of several start times through the morning and afternoon when you book. Then on the day, head to the meeting point on Via Frangipane, near the entrance to the Roman Forum.

With your guide and group, you’ll skip the general entrance line with your fast-access ticket, and step inside the ancient Colosseum. Once the site of brutal gladiatorial battle, the amphitheater was the go-to place for the ancient Romans’ entertainment. Hear about the gladiators, wild animals, emperors, and senators as you explore, and imagine the roar of the crowds, centuries ago.

From the Colosseum, you’ll continue to Palatine Hill to see where the emperors built their lavish palaces. Gaze at the view over Circus Maximus where chariot races were held, and look down at the ruined temples of the Roman Forum. Then, get a close-up view as you head inside the forum itself to learn about daily life in Ancient Rome.

After three hours, your tour ends outside the Roman Forum.

The entrance fee to the archaeological sites is 17 Euros for adults (23 Euros for the arena option), accompanied by a booking fee of 2 Euros. The aim is to promote transparency and ensure your understanding of the cost breakdown. In July and August, due to the heat, the duration of the tour is 2 hours. The Colosseum was beautiful to see! Our guide was very informative and was able to navigate the lines very well. She allowed ample time for pictures and to be able to see the beautiful sites of ancient Rome as well. I highly recommend for anyone going to Rome to witness its full glory in person.

The most memorable part was we didn't get to do it ! 😠 we walked and walked and walked around colessumn and asked numerous people for directions, showing them our instructions that were sent to us. They all told us this spot near train stop, they kept saying they are always here. So waited and waited, we were super early as well, to be sure. In the end, it got to 9.40 so knew it was too late. We gave up and did our own thing. So no, not very impressed at all !!! 😠

Marcus really brought the forum and colosseum to life. His keen interest in history and the historical society helped paint a vivid picture of life in Roman times. This helped add a layer of colour as we walked through the ruins of Rome. Excellent!

Flavia was an awesome guide! She was clealy super enthusiastic about the history and was a good teacher :) We had a bit of a storm in the middle of our tour, but she recovered quickly and managed to make sure everybody was okay and continued the tour and her story in a location where we were sheltered. We learned a lot of new things about Roman history and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this tour!

Best thing is skip the line worst part are the head sets (as with Vatican) jealous of the people with the funky Bluetooth headsets. Most of the tour guides provide the cheap (old) ones so you miss the talking. I felt on this tour (I have been before) that we didn’t really see a lot - just one small side of the Colesseum and didn’t get to the floor. The guide wanted to hurry us out and we had to ask to stop near it so we could take some photos. The rest of it was OK (Palentine Hill etc) but again hard to hear.

This was the worst tour I have taken in any city, ever. I had to look again at what I booked because you don’t get much exciting historical stories but rather it is more of a guide to historical materials science and building techniques. It went on for too long and the guide was rude. The guide had zero interaction with the group. Book elsewhere.

The palletine Hill and forum was excellent. Renata was a brilliant tour guide. Extremely good with young children. The disappointment was the colleseum part was cancelled by Viator last minute so is being refunded. We had to organise a tour with a separate company.

Do not book 10 minutes before the tour because there no tickets given out but just the voucher. I had no time to go to the meeting point to find the guide. I never ended up taking the tour, it was too late. As off today I have not heard from Viator in regards to e refund or an extended voucher for another time.

We did an early tour it was less crowded, perfect for pictures! Less time in the hot sun too! The tour overall was great/good although our guide was very bias when providing the context of the history in the colosseum.
