The bioluminescent bay night kayaking experience was awesome! Our guides took great care in explaining the excursion and helped keep all the kayakers together in the dark. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the bay, the bioluminescent plankton, the constellations, and the history of Puerto Rico. Getting to see the stars and the bioluminescent glow was such a beautiful experience. It was the highlight of my family’s trip! We had two children (8 & 12), 2 parents (40s), and grandparents (70) and all were able to handle the length of the excursion as well as the physical exertion. In fact, my daughter just sat in the front of my kayak, and I was able to do all of the paddling with ease while my husband and son were in their own kayak. Such a fun experience, and I would recommend it to everyone!

Incredible experience

This was the most beautiful natural experience I think I have ever had. We did not take pictures because I don’t think they would have done the experience justice. We met our guides and went to our kayaks (there were at least 6 other tour groups there as well). We all lined up to kayak to the bay, about 2 miles. It is an easy paddle to the bay as you are going with the current. It took quite a while as all the groups have to paddle the same narrow passage. It was frustrating, but worth it. We started to see the bioluminescence as it got darker and we got closer to the bay. We saw a fish swim by which looked radioactive. Once we got to the bay we were able to spread out.. we gathered as a group and our guides explained what was happening. Then we took out a large tarp as covered ourselves-this was when the magic really happened. We splashed water into the kayaks and it was like fireflies in the boat. It was beautiful. We played for a bit under the tarp then paddled around a bit watching our paddles and hands in the water. The kayak back was a bit more challenging due to the current. There was water and some very light snacks upon our return. I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Adventurous and Worth It

While you can book this excursion directly with several companies, it was worth it to have a driver who picked us up and drove us safely the 50 minutes there and back in traffic. He also provided the van as a safe place to leave our belongings. EcoAction, the company providing the kayaks, also did an amazing job, getting us there and back safely, and also providing a lot of information to help us understand what we were seeing. If you have a night where the bioluminescent glow is not as strong, they have a clean dry tarp they have you put over the group of kayaks to be able to see it clearly. We were so glad we did this. As we paddled, the water lit up and it was absolutely beautiful.

This experience is 4 times the price as other similar excursions with no described reason. Will never know if it’s worth it because they expressed no ability to accommodate an unforeseen, slight delay in our arrival to San Juan. They were rigid no negotiations on reschedule or refund, felt set up to take our money.

Since the day before we were very clear on what would happen if your flight got delay. Flight delays happens so often, we always encourage our customers to never book a tour the day of your arrival, explaining our 24hrs Policy Refund. We are a very serious local-family business with a Policy for Refund/Changes - as any other company, you were not set-up, we are not that kind of company.

Incredible and beautiful experience of a lifetime. I would have never kayaked in the pitch darkness through a lagoon had it not been for this tour. The guides kept us organized and safe and explained the biodiversity of the lagoon. The stars, sounds of birds, fish, and bioluminescence were stunning. Highly highly recommend this during your time in PR!

This was a fantastic experience! My 13 yr old daughter and I had a blast and a memory we will have for a life time! It was even drizzling at points and fairly cloudy but it didn’t matter. Only three things I wish were different. 1. Fewer people. World have been amazing if only us of course. 2. We didn’t get there so early and have to wait around so long 3. Not cost $200 per person. Should be more like $100.

The ACTUAL TOUR was 5 stars Kayaking Puerto Rico did an excellent job. The middle men booking thru Viator were frustrating I booked a tour with 4:30pm pickup time for kayak 7-9pm. The night before the call me (after they have charged me) & say 7pm pickup Kayak 8:30-10:30pm! NOT GREAT with a 10 yo who goes to bed at 9pm. There need to be transparency about timing. It feels like a bait and switch situation. Kids were too exhausted to enjoy. There were people returning from 7pm kayak excursions when we got there 🙄

Our cancellation policy is 24hrs prior reservation to receive full refund, and you have that time to do so if you do not want to cancel it, but instead you agree.

This tour was very nice. Being on the water at night under the stars is a unique experience and the bioluminescence is beautiful. The tour operators are very helpful and knowledgeable. One tip, if you are coming from the San Juan area for the 6:30 trip, give yourself a lot of extra time. Traffic that time of day is very heavy.

kayaking under the stars was a cool way to spend the night with our teenagers. The staff was very experienced and fun. Had a great time with Misayel and the other staff.

Though the bioluminescence doesn't look the same in real life as it does in the obviously photoshopped pictures online, it truly was through coolest thing I've ever seen. It looks like sparks in the water. Our guides were really helpful and interesting and the person in charge of booking really was accommodating. Our driver to and from Fajardo was the nicest. Make no mistake, this is a physical trip and it requires you to do the work of paddling, which would have been fine for me had I not injured my wrist just after booking. I would have liked a bit more time in the lagoon because I've never been anywhere so beautiful, with the stars sparkling in the sky and the bioluminescence sparkling in the water.
