Meh. See if you can find a different company first.

This tour was a neat, solid 3 star experience. The tour wasn’t bad, but it could definitely use logistical improvement. For example, I took the English tour, but barely understood a word the tour guide said, which made it difficult to understand what was going on. Also, the path up the mountain was closed due to an avalanche warning. I understand that the tour company can’t control the weather, so I don’t fault them for that. However, they can control where we stop so participants can have the best possible view of Mt. Fuji. Instead of stopping somewhere with a good view, we stopped at the same rest stop as 15 other tour companies. The angle from where we stood made the mountain barely visible. The view was 10 times better from the bus while we were driving on the highway. Later in the day when we went up a mountain in a cable car the views of Mt. Fuji would have been nice, but by that point it was too foggy. Further, lunch was in a crowded event space with 100 other tourists. The food was barely mediocre. All in all, it was a neat experience. I wouldn’t have been able to barely see Mt. Fuji or take a 10 minute cruise on Lake Ashi if I wouldn’t have done this tour, so I’m grateful for the opportunity. I just wish the tour company had a plan A, B, and C for where to stop so participants could have the best possible view of the mountain and that lunch was tasty.
A great day away from Japan’s big cities

This was a well organised trip and good value for money. Sadly the weather was against us but it would be a wonderful trip on a sunny day.
A fun tour of Mt Fuji, but not everything we'd hoped and featuring significant delays

We booked a day trip out from Tokyo to Mt Fuji with Viator. There was both good and bad to this tour, so I'm trying to be as objective/fair as possible with this review. Firstly, the good. The overall concepts/stages of the bus tour were great and well executed by our friendly, informative and charismatic tourguide TK. We got to go to the base of Mt Fuji for pictures, then stopped for some great food at a local restaurant, travelled across the lake at Hakone by boat and then headed up a cable car to an adjacent mountain for more views, then the bus back to Tokyo. The website sold us on this, and technically we got everything we paid for. However, now the bad. While we had an exceptionally bright day for the tour, our best views of Fuji were unfortunately from the bus window. This is because we were only able to ascend to the first station on the base of the mountain due to an apparent avalanche (bear with me here, I know tour operators can't control the elements). This meant we were not able to get above the treeline and could not get any clear views/photos. Later on in the afternoon, we went up in a cable car to an adjacent mountain, where we were supposed to get spectacular views of Fuji. However, as we ascended, cloud rolled in and our views were again obscured (again, bear with me here). Finally, we were supposed to be back in Tokyo for ~18:30, but it was almost 23:00 by the time we were finally dropped off due to an apparent traffic accident (one last time, bear with me here). This meant we lost one of our evenings in Tokyo too. Now, I know that the tour operators can't control the weather or the traffic, but I've since spoken to several friends (both tourists and Japanese locals) who went on this (or very similar) tours, months apart, and they experienced EXACTLY the same thing. There was an "avalanche" preventing access further up the mountain, there was "a traffic accident" which meant they were back late, and the cloud at the top of the cable car viewpoint is apparently almost perpetual from 16:00 onwards. It seems to me that the operators are well aware that their advertised tour is not achievable in the time frame and so fabricate reasons that you didn't get the promised experience; as if your negative circumstances are the exception/rarity, when in fact this seems to happen on the majority of their tours. So despite all the good aspects, I left feeling a bit cheated overall, and wish we'd spent our day seeing the sights of Tokyo instead.
    Waste of money and time

Great experience. Fuji was a bit shy hiddding behind clouds but eventually it cleared up and we were able to see the summit. The lunch provided on the trip was great it was a legitimate sit down restaurant lunch. The ferry ride was great unfortunately the cable car was out of order for maintennce and we werent able to ride but instead we were taken to a small museum in the area which was very informative. Our tour guide was friendly and a knowledgeable.
