Touring DC in style with professor Kenny B
KESTER_H, Apr 2024
Without a doubt the best part of this tour was taking it with DC native Kenny of KB tour. KB is a Black owned business and who best to learn about African American History in DC than from an African American from DC. Kenny is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter and he takes pride in giving his guests an interactive and pleasurable experience. You will also enjoy touring in a high end black Mercedes tour van.

Kenny was a wonderful tour guide. He had extensive knowledge and gave many interesting anecdotes about both famous and less famous people and events. There were only 4 people on our tour so he was very flexible about stopping at certain places, or skipping things we weren't as interested in. The other two people we met on the tour were African Americans who had lived in D.C. their entire lives and still learned facts and saw places they had never experienced. Kenny ushered us into the African American History Museum with no waiting in line. Everyone has a different pace when it comes to museums, but plan on spending at least 3 hours in the actual museum.

The tour was great. The guide was great. The museum was great. Didn't get a chance to experience the famous restaurant, it was too busy. Overall a great time was had
Had potential but fell short
Daniel_J, Mar 2024
The tour started 15 minutes late because the bus wasn’t there. That’s OK tho because the only people there who looked like they were ready to take people on a tour was a different tour company. I finally figured out where we were supposed to board on my own because the guide didn’t seem too interested in finding people. There was no check-in (why use QR codes if nobody scans them) the guy just asked for my name and when I gave it to him he sauntered off. When I asked if this was the right tour he courtly says “yeah” and walk off again. I guess clairvoyance is required for this operator. The tour starts and the driver doesn’t know where he’s going. The guide has to keep stopping his presentation to give him directions. By the end of the tour this got contentious. More on that later but those two should not work together again. Between the driver not knowing what in the heck he was doing and the tour guide getting to the point that he just didn’t give a hoot anymore, it was not enjoyable. For the first part of the tour we were always ahead of schedule but even still we were always being hustled through venues. By mid-trip we got to spend like 10 mins at the Lincoln memorial and 15 at MLK. I mean, c’mon man. There was barely enough time to go look and take a pic before we had to get back on the bus. And good luck if you have to use the bathroom. Anyway, by the end of the trip the guide and driver were arguing with each other. Traffic was bad, yes, but we got dropped off over a half-mile (I checked on GPS) from the AA History museum after our guide and driver bickered for the last 15 minutes and had to walk. My wife and I are middle aged but in good shape but there were some older folks and people in not so good shape that I don’t think appreciated the hike. So what this all sums up to is our 3.5 hour tour would up taking almost 5 hours JUST to get to the AA History museum which we were too exhausted to really give our full effort and attention to. After another 1.5 hours at the museum we were toast and gave up. We’ll go back again someday and see the rest on our own. Sad part - the venues themselves were amazing. It’s an incredible city and that tour could have knocked our socks off if not for some unfortunate circumstances.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
I apologize for the tour .I would like to address several things. I electronically sign in on my phone . Once a person gives me their name I check them on my phone..The driver did show up late which did not help from the start. The driver had never done the tour before so he did need some direction. I do agree on this day the tour did not live up to expectations . Traffic was bad , driver and tour guide were not doing a good job . We normally do a great job . I will say that was a very long day. Please accept my apologies.
What a great tour

Learning about the past wrongs to the black peoples and the struggles that they endured. Learning about the activists and womanists who fought for human rights and equality. It was emotional and humbling. The Museum says it all in one amazing space!
Crowded in Back of Van and Rushed
Bethena_D, Oct 2023
Needed more time at MLK & Fred. Douglas House. Van too small. No center aisle.Squeeze into back van.
Response from Host, Oct 2023
Sorry you didn't have more time at the MLK and the Frederick Douglass house.. . On the day you took the tour you did an hour tour of the Frederick Douglass house . The tour of the Douglass house is only an hour. Even if went to the Douglass house on your own the tour that is given is an hour. The stop at the King Memorial is 15 minutes. I feel 15 minutes is enough time to get some great pictures and read some of the quotes on the inscription wall . The van holds 14 people . On the day you took the tour we had 14 people. Most vans do not have a center aisle.
Tour guide seemed...
Gena_B, Oct 2023
Tour guide seemed knowledgeable. However when we asked questions he seemed a bit short with us saying "I'm getting to that" . So perhaps we should have just stayed quiet. I would have liked him to get out of the vehicle with us when there was a photo op just to explain more of what we were seeing. We never did get our bottled water. I would still recommend him to others because of his knowledge.
Response from Host, Oct 2023
Hi Gena, Since you and your guest were the only two people on the tour you got to see and do a lot.We usually do not just tour two people . I did answer a many of your questions when you asked them . There were times when I was trying to answer your question but it was not in the right place. For example when you asked about gentrification we were in Anacostia which is a neighborhood of 97percent African American . I said I would get to that . When we got the neighborhood of Shaw which epicenter of gentrification that is when I talked about gentrification. As far as getting out of my car to walk with you I can receive up to a $500 ticket to leave my car unintended . We are in Washington were security is very high so I cannot . Before each site explained in great detailed about the site just like I do on every tour. The bottled water you are correct about . I would have given you the water if you had asked. My apology
Educational and fun!!!
