What To Expect

Enjoy a sightseeing dinner cruise along the Potomac River and Washington, DC’s beautiful waterfront, departing from Gangplank Marina at 600 Water Street SW. This excursion covers the Potomac River with fascinating views of DC’s famous monuments and the city's historic waterfront.

The Odyssey is a modern dining ship with three exquisitely decorated glass atrium dining rooms, offering amazing river views of the nation's greatest monuments from every table. These inner dining areas offers plenty of comfortable seating with large picture windows to see the sites. There is also an open-air observation deck (reminiscent of the European canal ships) and dance floors.

The Captain and crew greet the guests as they arrive and the ship's photographer will record the moment for each party, if desired.

For the 3-course dinner, there is a tasting trio, entrees and desserts. To begin, choose from roasted summer vegetable salad, rock shrimp spheres or whipped goat cheese. The entrees include crab and mussel gratin, Romesco crust salmon, maple mustard glazed chicken, braised short rib, cauliflower steak or steak and lobster tail (additional charge). For dessert, there’s duo of sorbet, Odyssey signature bread pudding, mountain berry shortcake or chocolate decadent cake.

After eating, dance the night away to live music. The evening begins with softer standards before shifting to more high-energy dance music after dinner.

Throughout the cruise, enjoy stunning views of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Reagan National Airport, the United States Naval Research Laboratory, Old Town Alexandria in Virginia, the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge and much more.

This was my first time , during a river cruise it was awesome. The staff was very friendly and accommodated our needs. The food was delicious, the DJ and music was off the chain. I will do this again. I highly recommend the dinner cruise.

DC dinner cruise
Robert_L, Apr 2024
This was an excellent tour. Staff was exceptional. Waitress Seven was friendly and courteous. Management staff frequently walked around checking on everyone. DJ was great, took request and had everyone involved. Highly recommend
MY 52ND BDAY TRIP TO DC
Vanetta_F, Apr 2024
I would have loved to do the actual sight seeing from the cruise but it kept going in circles so we kept seeing the same things over and over. The food crew and entertainment was great.
A great night !
Eric_D, Dec 2023
The food and service was excellent. And the DJ was great- good selections and very funny. All the waitstaff were very attentive and pleasant
Not worth the money.
Barbara_W, Dec 2023
We never went near the monuments. We saw the Jefferson monument from a distance. In order to see anything we had to go outside because the lights inside were too bright. The music was too loud to converse. Food was good.
Nice event, food could be better
Steven_T, Nov 2023
Nice staff, smooth cruise. Dinner was less good, food overcoocked. Limited view on Washington's monuments
Should have picked other cruise…
Katrina_T, Oct 2023
Music just kept getting louder the whole night, couldn’t hold a conversation. It would have been fine after dinner but frustrating while waiting for 40 minutes between courses, not knowing how long you didn’t want to get up to look at the view outside because then you would get colder food. Steak requested med rare came out well done. Gnocchi was hard with butter flavor. Bartender watered down the dessert coffee drink cold, it took until dessert was finished to get it replaced so didn’t really want it at that point. Waitress was great. Overall wish we had just done buffet cruise or the sailboat cruise instead.
Awful evening; huge waste of money. Boat showed NONE of Washington's sites; music way too loud.
Charles_K, Oct 2023
This was a total rip off. Showed none of Washington's sites. Music was so loud conversation was impossible. Music was entirely geared to a large party on the ship. Non-party customers were ignored.
Oh what a night

Okay but not impressive
Patricia_J, Oct 2023
Food was ok but for the price of cruise could have been better. It was dark so site seeing was not that good
DJ was personable and...
Jennifer_G, Oct 2023
DJ was personable and brought everyone together. Enjoyed how we all got to join together on one dance floor and enjoy authentic music from around the globe! Music for friends, family, kids & couples. The sunset was pleasant to watch. Staff could work on coming up with an organized solution to get to each table in a timely manner & servers can work on professional mannerism. To each their own. We have made this tradition however quality in service is declining unfortunately.
wow!
Ahaoma_N, Sep 2023
The cruise was very memorable. The three-course meal was very good. The DJ and his choice of music kept everyone dancing. Excellent service overall.
No Cruise
Dennis_F, Sep 2023
We were not able to go on the cruise because Viator scheduled us for a time when the cruise was not available.
Disappointing
Gregory_S, Sep 2023
DJ and food were good, everything else was disappointing. The ship made loops and didn't provide an opportunity to see the monuments.
River Dinner Cruise
MICHAEL_M, Sep 2023
Food was very good, waiters were very attentive and welcoming. Should be aware that the boat route is not a tour, it just circles the same part of the river over and over again. That said it’s a very good evening.
Fun times

Beautiful boat etc. Fun DJ. Food service was terrible though. Staff confused and not attentive. Fun time!
Horrible customer service
Sandy_T, Sep 2023
My husband received a message his 90 year old father had a bad fall and was iICU on life support while we were walking to the Wharf to board the ship for this event. He was quite shaken and we arrived at the gate to board right at 7:00. The gates were locked; however, we could see our ship as well as two employees by the gate. I asked if they would open the gate so we could board, I explained why we arrived right at 7:00 and they said we weee supposed to arrive early that the boat boards before 7:00 and gates are locked and the ship leaves at 7:00. The shop was not leaving and didn’t start to take off for at least ten minutes. We went to the office to ask if they would open the gate prior to the ship leaving and they said no to contact the Cruise Line. This was unacceptable that the gates were locked at 7:00 and they wouldn’t allow us to come in the gates to board. The site says it starts at 7.00 and does not state that the gates will be locked at 7:00. It does not state that you must arrive before 7:00 or you’ll be locked out. This cost $435.00 and we should have been able to get on the boat as we arrived at 7:00 and the ship was still sitting there and did not leave for ten minutes or longer. I’m so disappointed in this Cruise Line for not providing the information that we needed to be there prior to 7:00. My husband is a veteran with a prothsetic leg and had just received a challenging call about his father. My husband and I walked as quickly as my husband could considering his disability and news his father was unconscious on life support back in New Mexico. Shame on these employees to lock the gate at or even prior to 7:00 and not allow us in at 7:00 when the boat was still sitting there not leaving the Wharff for ten minutes while we sat there and watched. Where’s the human factor and understanding. They were not even kind. They said you should have arrived prior to 7:00, we lock the gates and you’re not getting in for any reason. They told us to call the Cruise Line which I attempted to do and even spoke to employees in the office; however, I could get an answer as to what could be done prior to the ship leaving the port. This was a very painful and costly experience
Dinner Cruise 9/4
Rebekah_N, Sep 2023
Everything was great...shout out to MiMi & the young man that helped her..they were both so sweet and had a great personalities. The food was delicious. My husband and I both had the salmon. A review of the dessert buffet. The staff was not keeping it well stocked so there was a delay in everyone getting dessert & the line formed right where our table was..that was awkward..there was the whole area behind the DJ that would have been better to set up buffet as not to crowd tables. I have worked hospitality for years & this would have been unacceptable to inconvenience a patron. A suggestion would be to have the DJ commentating & music piped on to the decks ...he was constantly reminding people to go on the deck but we were disappointed not to hear him outside. He had a great personality and we liked hearing his knowledge of the area.
Not a 2-1/2 to 3 hour cruise
Sue_B, Sep 2023
The cruise part was very nice. The food was bland, the salmon was dry. When booking, they advertised this as a 2-1/2 to 3 hour cruise, it was only 2 hours. The views were beautiful.
You’ll regret booking!
Valencia_C, Sep 2023
I’ll start with the good - the DJ was decent and kept the dance floor packed and cruise flowing. The waitress skylar was top tier. Despite several issues with the kitchen she provided updates continuously and made sure we were taken care of despite several delays. Despite skylarks best efforts the service was terrible as a whole. The appetizers were not as described, the salad had one 1 tomato, 1 peach, and 1 piece of cheese. They literally grabbed spinach and placed it on the plate. The shrimp bisque was cold/lukewarm and the cheese wasn’t melted. The main course: the chicken was dry, the salmon was decent, and the gnocchi was overcooked and inedible. To the chef, succotash should never be a course option when the cruise is $150+ dollars: succotash should be reserved for high school cafeterias…not a dinner cruise. Dessert was a mess. We were back at the port before dessert service was served and we were prompted to leave with the final course being unserved. Two other tables were given the same instructions to disembark the ship despite not being serviced dessert. We complained to the restaurant manager twice before they decided to serve the remaining tables. We had no intentions of leaving without service or money back. Overall this cruise has a lot of areas of improvement! I highly recommend doing something else with your hard earned money and time! You deserve better & so did we! A refund would be appropriate but unfortunately I doubt the cruise will accommodate any passenger’s inconveniences. This review is not an over exaggeration, just facts….if you’re on the fence about booking keep looking.
Not as advertised in so many levels.
Juan_M, Aug 2023
We were quite looking forward to our dinner cruise experience, especially given the premium pricing and the advertised route. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. Despite the boat being well below its full capacity, the air conditioning was nonfunctional on a warm 80°F evening, making the interior uncomfortably warm. Concerns about cleanliness were raised when we noticed that one of the water glasses still had lipstick marks from a previous customer. It might be beneficial for the establishment to receive a visit from a health inspector to address this. We also noticed that the staff seemed stretched thin, which resulted in delays in service and visibly uncomfortable working conditions for them. The waiters appeared to be sweating and were apologetic about the service delays, which made the experience less than enjoyable for us as well. Furthermore, the presentation left something to be desired; our bread was unceremoniously placed on the table rather than on the bread plate, and the waiter responsible for this seemed less than courteous. To add to the disappointment, the cruise did not follow the advertised route. Despite clear weather conditions, we found ourselves circling past the DCA airport twice, without the promised sights of bridges or the Lincoln Memorial, as indicated in the promotional video from Viator. Overall, considering the price point and the promises made in advertising, we were left feeling that the experience was neither value for money nor as advertised.
