What To Expect

Depart central Zagreb by air-conditioned vehicle, and travel south toward Plitvice.

Head to the UNESCO-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park. Composed of 16 lakes joined by waterfalls, the park is famed for its beauty and lakes’ changing hues, which shift from turquoise to emerald and gray depending on their mineral content and the angle of sunlight.

Take a guided tour, following the wooden walkways over the lakes and enjoying the beauty of the rushing cascades. On route, take a boat and tram ride to absorb the scenery.

After four hours at Plitvice, enjoy a classic Croatian lunch (own expense), with your guide recommending dishes and drinks (own expense).

Finally, return to Zagreb, where your tour ends at the departure point.

Possibly the itinerary may be adjusted due to traffic, flooded trails in the park or bad weather conditions.

The tour includes prox. 5km of walking on uneven surfaces -please wear comfortable walking shoes (we visit highlights of both, the Lower Lakes and the Upper Lakes).
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Depending on the weather conditions some parts of the park may be restricted
Here are few items you may need to make your time on the excursion the best of all: closed comfortable shoes (sneakers), sportswear, In case of rain raincoat or an umbrella. After summer time we recommend to bring also a warm sweater or jacket.

Marko was a fantastic guide. He was a great balance between sharing lots of interesting information but keeping the tour fun. The coach was comfortable and we had a chance to stop at a rest stop during the long drive. The lakes have to be one of the most beautiful places that we’ve ever visited. The walk was long but not strenuous (although we exercise regularly). The restaurant at the end was absolutely delicious, fast, and had great service. We highly recommend this tour.

Marko was a great guide (our driver was excellent as well), very informative and organized as we were able to cover both the beautiful upper and lower lakes during our time. We also had a pit stop at a lovely little village on our way there. Marko was very accommodating (allowing us to stop and take photos, went at a slow enough pace to keep all of us together) and included two boat trips given availability since the park wasn’t as crowded in mid-October. He indicated he customized the tour based on the time of the year and size of the group (there were 19 of us), which was very thoughtful. I could only imagine how busy (and hot!) it would have been during the peak summer season! After 4 1/2 to 5 hours in the park, we stopped for a nice lunch around 3 pm at a local restaurant, which had an extensive menu. I had packed a sandwich to eat so wasn’t quite that hungry, but had a bowl of cream of mushroom soup that Marko recommended - delicious! We also had a fun, multi-lingual server! I had originally debated about taking this tour though I am so glad I did! Highly recommend it and if you need a way to travel from Zagreb to Split, this is an extra bonus (many of our your group did this - they take care of your luggage and drop off at hotels).

Plitvice water fall is very nice and pretty. joining the tour made it easy for us to see from upper lake to lower lake in short time. I do recommend to tour Plitvice national park water falls.

Rastoke was a beautiful village, providing a reminder of how communities used to live well over a hundred years ago. Plitvice was a wonderful national park, possessing the greatest variety of waterfalls i have ever seen in such a small area.

What an incredible experience! Marko, our guide, was superb. He was attentive to the needs of the group and thoroughly explained the unique geography of the region that created this one of a kind wonder. While crowded, your patience will absolutely be rewarded with stunning views of crystal clear lakes and unprecedented water falls.

First of all i must say that our guide for the day was Marko who was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the area where he grew up. En route to the lakes we stopped off at the small town of Rastoke which is so quaint with waterfalls flowing through it. The houses are built over the waterfalls and are quite unique. Then you move on to the lakes themselves that are stunningly beautiful. Be prepared for a long but easy stroll. Now, why is this not scored a 5? At this point it would be but then i must advise of the following. Marko advised that lunch at a local family restaurant would be around 2.30-3pm. Having already read reviews that suggested this was a bit late we had taken our own lunch. As it turned out lunch was actually at 3.45 and another 15-20 minute drive further on from the lakes. The family run restaurant I would suggest is actually owned by the tour company seeing that upon arrival it was full from another bus tour. When the waiters realised we only wanted drinks they were rude. We did look at the menu and have to say that it appeared over priced. And having already eaten the fact that we headed to the restaurant made a great day now seem long and not required adding another 90 minutes onto the day. Half way around the tour of the lakes at around 1pm we did stop within the National Park for 20 minutes where there was a restaurant serving the hundreds of people there and personally I think this would have been a good place to rest and eat for an hour. I would suggest that the tour company reviews the need to drive 15 minutes further on and extend a long day further.

Pick up location easy to find, arrived on time. Tour guide and driver pleasant and efficient. Lakes and waterfalls are beautiful but even on a “quiet day” they are busy and it felt a little hurried. The place we stopped for lunch was tasty and reasonable value.

Marko was a great guide. He has a difficult job but he carries it out professionally and with a pleasant smile. Lots of great info and very approachable. It was a large tour, but it was nice to see Plivice. Highly recommend to do on the weekend so you avoid the traffic on the way back to Zagreb.
