Many tours of Curacao include a stop at the distillery and offer transportation from your hotel. Otherwise, taxis are readily available and it’s about a 10-minute drive from downtown Willemstad. Public transit is another option, with buses departing from the neighborhood of Punda. You’ll find the bus stop on Plasa Bieu square, next to the Old Market, and you can take the Schottegat or 1B bus line.
The distillery is open to visitors on weekdays, with guided tours running on the hour from morning to mid-day. It’s an excellent afternoon destination—you can escape the sun and relax with a refreshing cocktail, or enjoy the cool shade within the mansion itself. If you’re not interested in a tour and tasting, entrance to the distillery is free.
If you haven’t adjusted to the tropical heat, pick up a bottle of Alcolado Glacial from the gift shop. Known as “air conditioning in a bottle,” the liquid lotion has been produced since 1948. Splash some on your pulse points if you’re overheating for instant relief. The mentholated lotion is also great for mosquito bites, headaches, and muscle pain.
