Curacao trip ideas
This small beach is a little off the beaten path, accessible via steep stone stairs from the nearby car park. With a small snack bar and a dive shop, it has everything you need for a perfect day at the beach. Visitors to Playa Kalki typically come to dive or snorkel—the coral formations make for excellent underwater photographs. Boat tours also pass by the beach as they explore the Curacao coastline.
While there is a snack bar, pack lots of water.
Bring a pair of comfy sandals, as the beach has some rocky sections.
Bring an umbrella for shade.
From the main city of Willemstad, it’s a 1-hour drive north via Weg Naar Westpunt. Turn left at Westpunt D, and continue until you find the small (but free) car park for Playa Kalki. It’s difficult to reach this spot if you don’t have your own transportation—a taxi ride of this length would be expensive. However, you can take a tour that includes a stop at Playa Kalki.
Try for an early morning start to claim your spot on the beach. As for visiting Curacao, visit from February to March to experience the island’s famous Carnival. Avoid the rainy season, which runs from October to December, as frequent rains cloud the water and make for poorer visibility if you want to dive or snorkel.
Kunuku Pachi Colá is a 5-minute walk away. The small restaurant serves local delicacies and offers a view of the ocean, open-air seating, and fresh grilled seafood. You’ll find goat and chicken stews, conch, refreshing tamarind juice, and oregano punch on the menu. It gets busy quickly, so order before you’re ravenous.
