Most Sheung Wan walking tours stop here and at other nearby attractions, such as Hollywood Road, Man Mo Temple, and Bonham Strand. For the best value, combine a Sheung Wan walking tour with a Hong Kong Island guided tour.

Upper Lascar Row is located in Sheung Wan, 1 block north of Hollywood Road. Take the MTR to Sheung Wan (Exit A2), walk along Hillier Street to Queen’s Road Central, then climb up the stairs until Upper Lascar Row. Those who would rather not walk up the stairs can take the Central-Mid Level Escalators to Hollywood Road, then walk down to Upper Lascar Row.
Upper Lascar Row can be visited year-round. Most shops will be open from 11am to 6pm, but are closed Sunday and public holidays. Many visitors combine a stop here with sightseeing and shopping along nearby Hollywood Road.
The term “lascar” refers to Indian sailors, many of whom lived on and around this street during colonial times. In the past, the street also had a reputation as a place where a lot of stolen goods were resold. In Cantonese, thieves are referred to colloquially as rats, and those who purchase the goods from them as cats; this is why the street is also referred to as Cat Street.
