The basics

Though little remains of the fort, extensive signage throughout the site helps visitors imagine what it looked like during its heyday, complete with residences, a chapel, and trading businesses. The park is a popular stop on self-driving tours of the island, and some guided tours and shore excursions make a stop here, usually en route to the Waimea Canyon.

Exploring Kauai’s 19th-Century History

Although many people visit Kauai to check out the gardens, hike the Na Pali Coast, or just laze on the beach, the Garden Isle is full of historic spots to explore. Don't miss the Wai’oli Mission House in Hanalei, a 19th-century missionary house converted into a small history museum, Old Koloa Town, a former plantation town with beautifully preserved buildings, many of which now house boutiques and art galleries.
