The basics

If you’re spending multiple days in Krakow, visit the National Museum with a museum pass. These handy multi-day passes help you beat the ticket lines and grant you access to 30-40 museums and attractions—and sometimes include transport. If multiple museums aren’t on the agenda, you can visit the National Museum independently. Either make your own way there or look out for it as a stop on some hop-on hop-off sightseeing tours.

Why to visit the National Museum in Krakow

Since its inception in 1879, the National Museum in Krakow has proudly stood as Poland's first national museum. This is especially impressive considering the country's history of division under Austrian, Prussian, and Russian rule. A powerful symbol of Polish identity, the museum's origins can be traced back to the generous donation of artist Henryk Siemiradzki's masterpiece Nero's Torches. This pivotal contribution sparked a wave of artistic donations, solidifying the museum's role in celebrating Poland's heritage.
