On the plus side, this means they offer a more tranquil alternative to the region’s other archaeological points of interest. You can explore the site in just a couple of hours on a private tour, which is likely to include a stop in nearby Izamal.

The Aké Ruins and Hacienda are situated in the town of Aké, some 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Mérida. If you're driving, follow Highway 180 to the town of Tahmek before taking a left turn on the Tixkokub-Sotuta road toward Aké. The Aké Ruins and Hacienda are open year-round, from mid-morning to late afternoon. Shade is limited throughout the archaeological site, so avoid the worst of the day’s heat by visiting in the morning or just before closing time.
