The Basics

It's easy to stumble upon the Museum of Naive Art while exploring Zagreb's Upper Town, where you can appreciate its collection of primarily Croatian artists from the lauded Hlebine School. To make the most of your time, it's easy to pair with a museum visit with stops at top Upper Town sights—like St. Mark's Church and Dolac Market—and end your day with a funicular ride to the Lower Town.

If you prefer a curated experience to an independent outing, sightseeing tours are your best bet. Zagreb art tours typically visit the Museum of Naive Art, and it's included on the itineraries of most museum tours and artsy walking tours. Guided group tours at the museum are also available if you call in advance.

How to Get There

Since the Museum of Naive Art doesn't offer parking, the most convenient way to visit is to take public transit. The easiest option is the 150 bus, which runs through the Upper Town and stops at Markov Trg—about two blocks north of the museum. Alternatively, the Frankopanska tram stop is about a 10-minute walk.

When to Get There

The museum and shop are open daily, hold limited hours on Sundays, and are closed on Croatian national holidays. Though there's really no bad time to visit, you can expect more crowds in the Upper Town during Zagreb's busiest tourist season—in June and July—and fewer crowds in the evening, once those exploring for the day have returned to their hotels.

What to See in Mirogoj Cemetery

A short tram ride from the Museum of Naive Art, you can find one of the more popular—but easy to miss—Zagreb attractions: Mirogoj Cemetery. This burial ground is known as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe, and the property is a lovely place to stroll, explore monuments and mausoleums, and appreciate landscaped grounds. To visit this late 19th-century landmark, hop on the 14 tram from the Frankopanska stop.
