Where To Find the Best Views in Venice

Venice charms from every angle, but there are a few spots that offer the best views of (and fantastic photo opportunities for) the Floating City—if you know where to find them. Here are some of the best places to find striking views of Venice.

St. Mark's Bell Tower

Enjoy a bird's-eye view.

See Piazza San Marco and the exterior of St. Mark’s Basilica from a new perspective at the top of the St. Mark’s Bell Tower, or campanile. Rising 99 meters above Piazza San Marco, the bell tower offers sweeping views over Venice’s rooftops and network of canals. Climb into an elevator and emerge at the top of the bell tower. Travelers may also want to seek out a second campanile at San Giorgio Maggiore that looks back across the water at Piazza San Marco.

Climb aboard a gondola

A Venetian must.

A gondola ride is a Venice classic for good reason—a seat in these narrow boats is one of the best vantage points for taking in the city’s beauty. Not only do the gondolas offer views of the historic palaces along the Grand Canal, but they can maneuver into smaller canals and waterways as well.

Take a hop-on hop-off ride

Discover Venice at your own pace.

Go for a ride on the hop-on hop-off boat tour to encounter Venice from many angles. Take in views of popular landmarks such as the Rialto Bridge from the deck of a boat and hop-off the boat at your leisure.

Island hop to Murano and Burano

Glass, lace, and fantastic views.

One of the best ways to take in views of Venice is from outside the city. Join an island-hopping tour to nearby Murano and Burano and admire a new perspective of the city in between glass-blowing demonstrations in Murano and exploring the fishing village of Burano.
