Private tour of Herculaneum

Francesca was our guide for this tour. She was very well versed in the history of the Herculaneum. She also spoke English very well which was a big plus. Would recommend her any time.

--We only had one day, so chose Herculaneum over Pompeii and we were glad we did! --For transportation to the site: it was easy to take a taxi from Napoli to the site and the taxi driver gave us his number, so we could call him when we were ready to return. He was very nice and professional and a very safe driver. Our tour guide stayed with us until he was sure we had transportation back, which was very appreciated --The site takes a couple of hours to tour; the tour guide did a very nice job of showing us the area while providing lots of interesting information. The site is well-excavated. There is a tiny museum as well that we quickly strolled through, which was interesting. --There were a couple of bathrooms that did not require tipping, but bring your own toilet paper. --Our guide was super enthusiastic and knowledgable, which made the whole experience wonderful. This was one of the best tours of our trip.

Wonderful experience in Herculaneum. Our guide Ernesto was great and was patient with our family as we had two strollers to navigate. Herculaneum is a must see. Much more intact then Pompeii with smaller crowds.

Great experience, Carmine took the time to really immerse into the Roman world at the time of the explosion. Also did a great job tying Pompeii, Herculaneum and the empire during the explosion. Book, even just on a day at port like we were.

Our tour with Carmine was great. He sent a message before the tour to confirm the meeting place and was extremely knowledgeable about not only Herculaneum but explained how the town and circumstances were different to Pompeii, putting everything into context. He brought the human stories of Herculaneum to life and helped us imagine how people lived there. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and especially the water spray he brought to cool us down along the way! Our whole family would recommend a tour with Carmine, including our teenage boys.

We had a private morning tour of Herculaneum with Martina a few weeks ago with my husband and two teenagers (14 & 15). We were really excited for this tour after seeing a documentary about Herculaneum on TV recently. This tour and experience really exceeded our expectation. Martina was a fabulous guide and showed us all the most interesting sites of the ancient remains. She had a great personality and knowledge of the history of the area, while still being fun and relatable to my kids. This tour is highly recommended and Herculaneum should not be missed. I think I enjoyed it better than Pompeii!

Carmine was very informative about Pompeii and Herculaneum and showed us a lot of interesting items we would have missed, such as the museum boat and jewellery, the old stone jars, the skeletons, statues of Hercules and what they represented, the drainage and plumbing plus the myriad mosaics.

Stunning tour. A fabulous 2 hours private tour with Martine. The history is overwhelming and without Martine, we would only have scratched the surface. With her guidance, a fascinating series of stories about the history of this incredible town. Highly recommended and Martine is a combination of knowledgeable and friendly.

Siamo soddisfattissimi del tour che abbiamo fatto. A causa del maltempo abbiamo richiesto di anticipare la visita di due ore e si sono fatti in quattro per accontentarci. Carmine, la nostra guida, si è rivelato estreamente competente e disponibile e ci ha permesso di godere al meglio della nostra visita ad Ercolano, dandoci tutte le informazioni necessarie per comprendere al meglio quanto ci circondava. Consigliamo sicuramente.
