Amazing Herculaneum Ruins

Really interesting tour. So much history dating back 2000 years. Guide Luciano was very knowledgeable and showed the group all of the best parts with photos. I was late and staff were great to get me to join the tour. It was not crowded and easy to take photos.

Out Askos tour guide Luciano was fantastic. So inclusive, passionate and interesting. He really helped us imagine what life was like in Herculaneum. A fantastic experience.

Well preserved ruin of the buried city. Easy to access via train from Naples. Site is about 1 k from train station if you're carrying your gear. We had a good guidebook with information about the ruins so did not feel the need for a guide. However, the fay we went was not busy so we would have been fine with buying our tickets at the site. But you never know...

Ticket was easy to acquire but unnecessary. June was still low season so queue was negligible. Herculaneum a not to be missed experience, despite the heat.

Herculaneum is certainly worth a visit but get a good map and plan your route before going. Viator sent me a voucher when i booked which i printed off. they later sent me an email telling me the voucher was no good and i must not use it . they sent me another voucher which i only hd on my phone. it took ages for the staff to recognise and process this voucher. its cheaper and quicker to pay cash.

Skip the line is a joke! There is no separate desk for skip the line, so you have to queue up with everyone else to get paper tickets issued because the scanner at the gate does not read barcodes in e-tickets. Once through the ticket barrier there is no clear direction on which way to go, on the map the tour starts at the boat-sheds but the obvious path over the new bridge does not go there directly. There is a huge tunnel which you should go down but I couldn't find the upper entrance! In the small bookshop you should be able to buy a guide book but they had run out of English language editions none up in the ticket office either, very bad planning. There were precious few souvenirs either. The actual ruins are amazing, the site is quite small and personal, I preferred it to Pompeii. Having toured round for a couple of hours or so we went back to the 'visitor centre', there is no proper cafe, just some vending machines with drinks of snacks but don't drink too much because the toilets are abysmal! Ladies is in the old gents complete with urinals, cubicles are so tiny its a squeeze to get in/out, no toilet seat, used toilet paper goes into a bin! This amazing site deserves far better facilities than it has.

tres beau site à visiter, la durée peut se faire en 1h, seul bémol, l'orgnisation viator sur place est peu professionelle dommage! horaires mal indiqués, aucunes informations precises de la part de viator se contente de prendre l'argent de sa commission nul !
