AMAZING JOURNEY!!

It was an amazing journey. Although a tour not for the faint of heart it's absolutely worth it. We saw waterfall after waterfall crossing the island in the most beautiful routes. Sydney and Tady our tour guides were absolutely fantastic and very caring with all of us. The only not such good thing was lunch but all in all it was a beautiful tour with great experiences. I will do it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend

Great Adventure - watch lunch arrangements

The trip was an adventure. Very bumpy but I expected that. I was surprised with lunch. The writeup said lunch was not included so we brought a sandwich. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant and when we told them we would not be eating there they got very upset. We were outside by the vehicle and they wanted us to leave the property. I think the tour company should make this clear beforehand. Otherwise a very nice day in nature.

9 hours of being thrown around on a dangerous road with no information about the surroundings

We were en route for some 9 hours being thrown around on a single track bumpy surface. The driver only gave us a little background on the tunnel, otherwise we learnt absolutely nothing about the island, the plants, creatures, it was just 9 hours equivalent to sitting in a tumble drier on full spin. A couple of other trips we crossed did seem to have some driver input.

Spectacular scenery; amazing (though bone-shattering!) ride on what is called a road, but a rich experience nevertheless and a terrific driver/guide. Not for the faint-hearted however! One of the best things I’ve done.

Bumpy and Scenic Tour

The tour was bumpy but the seats were comfortable and cushy and the open air truck bed provided good ventilation. We had a little bit of rain (maybe 15 minutes) but closing the see through side curtains kept us dry. Still, much of it was a rough ride. Our tour guide Eric was very informative, very friendly and made several stops along the way to explain from where various plants came. We also stopped to see a plethora of waterfalls, each one unique in its own way. This private company tour was much cheaper than comparable tours booked through the cruise ship, but the lunch was expensive. We stopped at a restaurant inside the dormant volcano crater. The restaurant only took cash in payment, so my wife and I shared a $25 refrigerated cooked meat hamburger. Even though the meat was cold, it was surprisingly tasty and was supplemented with a good size serving of hot fries. Have adequate cash on hand. The last 45 to 60 minutes of off road was extremely rough. As an indication of how rough it was, my pedometer registered 15,977 steps for the day. I walked a total of about 45 minutes that day, which would account for about 3,000 to 4,000 steps. The rest of the 15,977 were due to bouncing in the truck bed. As a bonus, we met 6 wonderful strangers who shared the ride. I am 74 years old and survived with no soreness or pain the following day. So, if you want to see the outback side of the island, this is a good way to do it, at least once.

Sydney, our driver/guide was excellent - very knowledgeable about the flora and the area. The tour takes you through some incredible scenery. It's a long tour (8-9 hours) on some very twisty, bumpy roads, which Sydney negotiated expertly. There's a nice stop at a swimming hole in a river (rocky, so bring waterproof shoes) which was a welcome break. Take some cash for the lunch stop at the centre of the mountain - seems to be more expensive than Pape'ete (XPF 1100 for 500ml beer). Alternatively take a packed lunch. This is definitely not an excursion for someone with a dodgy back or mobility issues due to the rough road and having to get in and out the back of a flat back 4x4 at each stop. I enjoyed the trip. It was a great experience.

It was a rather rainy day, but perfect. Our driver was incredible. He knew a lot and answered all of our curiosities. He drove well and we had such fun!

We had a great time on this tour! Highly recommended to see the real Tahiti. Our guide, Eric, was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and loved to tell stories. He was a great driver and at no point on the bumpy, narrow road did we feel unsafe. We saw countless waterfalls, wonderful lake, and beautiful mountains! The swim in the river was amazing! The views from the restaurant on top of the mountain were gorgeous! What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, swim suit, towel, and light snacks. There is no place to change out of swim suit after the river swim. However, you usually dry out quickly with the weather. It is a bumpy ride, so light snacks recommended. Overall, absolutely fantastic experience and a MUST DO when visiting Tahiti!

So many waterfalls. The bumpy ride rewarded us with beautiful scenery. Pito tried his best to speak English. Everyone else was French speaking. I got most of what he was trying to tell me. Pito was a master at driving the mountain trails. He got us home safe. Thanks 😊

True 4x4 experience

Our guide and driver Eric was amazing! He was knowledgeable, kind, helpful and fun to be with! At each stop, Eric would tell us about the formation and plants around. I highly recommend the tour, the experience is fantastic! Please keep in mind the additional information on the add, this is a true 4x4 experience, the road is really bumpy and muddy. The tour operator informed us that the first stop is for breakfast, that is not accurate. Make sure to have breakfast before the pick up time and bring some snacks. Also, the tour operator failed to let us know that the restaurant where they stop for lunch only takes cash. No credit card. It was a great experience overall, just pay attention to these details and be prepared.

Amazing 4x4 Tour of Tahiti's Natural Beauty

We recently took the Crossing over Tahiti Island 4x4 tour, and it exceeded our expectations! The breathtaking journey through the lush landscapes and majestic waterfalls were amazing. Our guide was not only knowledgeable about the area but also incredibly helpful throughout the entire excursion. The highlight for us was undoubtedly the chance to witness the beautiful waterfalls and explore the vibrant greenery of Tahiti. The 4x4 adventure allowed us to access areas we wouldn't have been able to reach otherwise. It was a very bumpy ride, be ready to rock and roll. If you're looking for an wonderful experience in Tahiti, I highly recommend the Viator 4x4 tour. It's a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and some cultural insight.

Truly incredible and at times harrowing journey through the center of Tahiti. Eric, our driver and guide, was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and was even able to remove a number of logs and trees that were blocking our path. We saw several other 4x4 tour groups turn around and go back because of this, but when we arrived at the fell trees, Eric and another guide got out and moved the trees blocking our way across a dam and we carried on! He went above and beyond and made for a truly remarkable trip across Tahiti.

This is an exceptional adventure. We saw easily over 100 waterfalls and greenery so lush you would think you're in Jurassic Park. Pito took great care of us and I would highly recommend this to anyone that can handle a rough ride for several hours. Bring bug spray!

If you can get good weather, it will be amazing!

We did the full day tour, and it was unfortunately really cloudy and rainy for most of the trip. It was still a lot of fun, but we missed a lot of the best vistas and seeing the true scale of the valley. Our guide was bilingual and explained everything in English and French in an informative and entertaining manner. Really enjoyed his info on the history of the valley as well as the island and traditions. If you're on Tahiti in the dry season, this is a "can't miss", in the wet season, temper your expectations a bit and maybe wait to book till you have a better sense of the weather for your stay.
