What To Expect

Start your trip from central Barcelona, continuing by an air-conditioned vehicle on a drive through the lush countryside to the charming village of Besalú. Once you arrive, hop out to begin a walking tour of this ancient city, stopping to admire its streets lined with medieval-era architecture. Then visit a nearby mikveh (a 12th-century Jewish bath) before stopping by a medieval synagogue.

Continue next to Castellfollit de la Roca, a positively minuscule town situated on the edge of a basalt cliff. This tiny village harbors 1,000 citizens in a town that’s just 3,280 square feet (1,000 square meters). Proceed to Rupit, where you have time to wander this beautiful hamlet at your leisure. Stroll the cobblestone roads lined with 16th-century houses, cross the city’s hanging wooden bridge, and make a visit Rupit’s baroque-era Church of Sant Miquel. Feel free to have lunch (at your own expense) before checking out the ruins of the Castle of Rupit set on a picturesque rocky peak.

After Rupit, take a scenic drive towards the sandstone cliffs at Cingles de Tavertet, set in the Ter River Valley, passing by the area’s megalithic tomb and its Iberian Wall as well. Then arrive in Tavertet, taking time to explore the area’s 48 preserved homes from the 16th and 17th centuries with your guide. Hear a few details about the village from your guide before checking out the 11th-century Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. You then have time to take a break, grabbing a coffee (at your own expense) or enjoying a short walk to the scenic overlook at Panta de Sau lake.

Finish your trip with a ride back to Barcelona, during which you enjoy vistas of verdant-green forests like Magatalls, along with the UNESCO Man and Biosphere-listed El Montseny natural park. You are dropped off back at your departure point in Barcelona at the end of the day.

Awesome guide with great sense of humor, fantastic day tour.
Robert_E, Apr 2024
We were a small group of five and were really lucky to have a guide named Pablo, who had a great sense of humor. He encouraged group bonding with the way he interacted with us. He also took us to some unusual places which I had never seen in my numerous previous trips to Spain. We had a great lunch together and at the end of the tour, back in Barcelona, we ended up going to a tapas bar recommended by Pablo and had a great time all the way!
Stunning Villages
Jon_L, Apr 2024
Fantastic places to see and visit. The drive is split up and never seems long. Would do this again. Highly recommend.
A relaxing day out of Barcelona
Donald_L, Apr 2024
Pickup was easy at it's a full fledged tour operator. Our tour guide was friendly and chatty. There was ample time to explore the villages. Bring an umbrella and a jacket. The mountain villages in April were a bit colder and wetter than we anticipated. The drive was half the fun.
AMAZING!

Rod was amazing and so much fun to listen to! He has so many stories and was full of information, not to mention funny! This trip was absolutely worth it!
Three Medieval Villages
Wendy_G, Apr 2024
This was a fantastic tour with Enrique and his young apprentice. Enrique is very knowledgeable and we learnt a lot. He has a great sense of humor. His restaurant recommendation was excellent. It’s great to get out of the city and see the magnificent views and villages. Do this tour!!

The cities were beautiful, the bus was comfortable, and the guide was very attentive and kind. Thanks Pablo!
Beautiful towns with a great guide
Elvira_C, Mar 2024
We had a wonderful time with Pablo as our guide. He really went above and beyond to make the day a memorable one for our group: taking pictures, making collages, playing music on the bus and telling us interesting facts and anecdotes. It was a great experience!
Wonderful Experience

Traveling back in time
Maria_R, Mar 2024
These towns were absolutely breathtaking. Our tour guide Aruan was an amazing historian who made us feel like we were living in those times. We learned so much history of the area. The views were unforgettable. This is a must-do trip.
Pretty little villages
Heather_S, Mar 2024
The villages were small but pretty. An interesting day out of Barcelona if you have time to spare. Stephen was helpful and lunch in Rupit was very homely and satisfying.
Excellent day Excellent Guide
Gill_G, Mar 2024
Had a wonderful day visiting the three villages with Stephen . He was an excellent guide who was keen to impart as much information to the group as possible . He was helpful and ensured the group had an excellent day . His recommendation for lunch was really inspiring and most of the group ate at the place he recommended and no one was disappointed. Would highly recommend this trip was fabulous to see the Catalan countryside and get away from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona . I give the trip and Stephen 5 stars
Amazing, must not be missed!

Xavi was great! He connected history and geology, architecture and culture so well on our tour. The stories he told helped the tour come to life.
Rupit, Rupit, Rupit
Patrick_M, Feb 2024
This was a great way to see some of the beautiful small towns outside of the main hustle of Barcelona. Our guide Sergio was absolutely incredible. He was one of the kindest, most knowledgable tour guides I have ever had. He also gave great recommendations for places to go for dinner and two of the restaurants he recommended ended up being some of the trips favorite food. Rupit was our favorite city we visited out of the three. Get lunch there at one of the great places the guide tells you about. You truly feel like you are going back in time. There are a few windy roads but it is worth the incredible views and gorgeous cities. Would recommend to anyone and if I'm ever in the Barcelona area again I want to book Sergio. He is that good.
Simply amazing
LINDA_M, Feb 2024
Amazing villages all with a different flare. A good amount of free time. Amazing views. And an amazing tour guide Nu. She was so knowledgeable about the history of the villages and kept pleasant conversation during the drive back. She is a beautiful person. She really made an effort to ensure our needs and comfort were met.
Amazing!
Ayten_I, Feb 2024
One of the best tours I got! Our tour guide David was like a history teacher. He knew everything we asked and it was super nice to see all these amazing villages. I felt like I didnot only learn about those places but Catalunya and Catalan culture as well.
3 villages each had their own charm and story
Lynn_Z, Feb 2024
The 3 villages were lovely, but learning about their history made it even better. David gave us the option to have a sit down lunch in Rupit, which i highly recommend. The owners were so welcoming and created a wonderful experince with which to enjoy their delicious food. I also valued David's history lessons about Catalonia. No book could bring it to life better. Thanks!
Come for the history, stay for the views
Justin_M, Jan 2024
Besalu, Rupit, and Tavertet are the 3 towns that you visit, and all of them are not to be missed! Camilo was our guide, and he was excellent. You have plenty of time on your own in each village but are also given handy pointers and short tours about the history.
