Surfing is an essential part of Hawaiian culture but, if you're new to the sport, you'll need someone to show you the ropes before you dive in. This experience teaches you how to surf in a fun, safe and easy-going environment with a ratio of just three students to one instructor who will make sure that you ride a wave.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

It was amazing! My 2 teenagers and I were first-time surfers and our instructor was fantastic- he was calm and made surfing really easy. We all rode several waves! The location was beautiful and only having 5 surfers in the water at a time was really special. I would highly recommend Ohana surf lessons!

So guide was nice and location was great for us. Our lesson happened to be scheduled on a day with super challenging conditions- not a day for learners (11/24). Biz owner should have canceled/rebooked. Instructor did his very best, we had a scary situation, and we are so thankful for his good care.

Our instructor Kaleo was friendly and patient my two kids 12 and 9 years of age. They had no prior experience surfing but embraced the challenge. Conditions were ideal for us and was very happy w the experience! Thank you!

Disappointing first surfing lesson

This was my first time surfing and I did ride a few waves in the first hour of the lesson. However, the instructor did not communicate or instruct very much throughout the experience. The lesson started late and ended early. My lesson was also rescheduled to a different day by the operator. We did not surf at all in the final hour mostly due to there being no waves. This was not the instructors fault, but it ultimately led to a disappointing overall experience.

10/10 Would surf again!

Everyone got up on a board plus did paddle boarding. Unfortunately, tides and wave conditions interfered with the best experience but adjustments were made.

Great experience for first-time surfers

It was 5 of us (2 different families ） with 2 instructors (a primary, and an assistant). Our booking was from 11:30-2. We arrived well before our appointment and the primary instructor was already there. The other family didn’t arrive until 11:50. Then we went through the instructions, heading out to the water. My older child stood up on her first try. The younger one succeeded on her third ride. Both from the other family stood up on first few tries. I succeeded only on my last attempt before heading back to the shore. Overall everyone had a good time and really enjoyed it. The instructors are nice and fun— we liked them and wouldn’t hesitate to have a lesson with them next time. We did end up spending more time waiting for the waves to form— that’s just Mother Nature. Highly recommend Kona Surf Lessons. Oh, we originally booked for 12/24 because viator website allowed us to. Thankfully the instructor found out and called us early in the day to tell us about the mess up, and was able to squeeze us in for the next day— lucky for us our flight is 10pm next day.
