What To Expect

Begin your helicopter tour of Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront’s very own helipad in the city center. Climb into your helicopter and settle in for an exciting ride, while your pilot provides informative commentary on what you’re seeing below.

As you gain altitude, one of the first things you’ll see is Cape Town’s City Bowl from above. The natural amphitheater is framed by the impressive mountains that help define the city — Table Mountain and Lion’s Head among them.

Soar over Cape Town Stadium, one of the host venues for the 2010 World Cup, and then circle Table Mountain for an unforgettable view of the landmark from all sides. From this lofty vantage point, it’s easy to see the patchwork of colors that nature has made — greens and browns of Table Mountain and Signal Hill Mountain next to the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

Fly past Lion’s Head and along the Atlantic coast, where — if it’s a clear enough day — you may even be able to see Robben Island in the distance. Look for the mountain range known as the Twelve Apostles, which runs along the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula. Spot the pretty white sand beaches, including those at Camps Bay, Clifton Beach and Llandudno Beach — all popular beach resort towns.

Continue past Karbonkelberg Mountain before flying over Hout Bay Harbour, and then — after about 18 minutes of flying time — head back toward the helipad at the V&A Waterfront to end your exhilarating tour.

The actual experience was great, and the company Cape Town Helicopters was extremely professional despite them having no reservation from Viator. Viator was of little to no help in this matter - but Cape Town Helicopters did everything they could to make it right. I would 100% book with this company - just not through Viator.

Would Pass on Cape Town Helicopters

I always consider helicopter tours a necessary splurge when I travel as it's a great way to see the city from above and capture beautiful photos. In my excitement, I arrived promptly before the suggested meeting time, but was greeted by a receptionist who couldn't be less bothered to provide any type of customer service. Her poor attitude quickly began a reflection of the experience to come. The rest of my fellow group members had arrived within 10 mins thereafter, but it wasn't until a full 45 minutes later from our meeting time that we were able to finally take flight. This delay would have been more tolerable had it been due to an issue with regards to safety precautions, etc., however, according to one of the on-site personnel, a "pilot was running late." Which would have been an acceptable answer, too, if it were not for a secondary group that came in after mine whose intake and processing took precedence over ours as they were queued in front of my group despite coming in after. I found this special treatment very disappointing as it became clear then that Cape Town Helicopters (via Viator) provides preferential treatment. When the flight did eventually happen, the helicopter pilot's commentary was lackluster and merely shelled out a few touristy comments here and there. Not engaging whatsoever. I'm really disappointed with Cape Town Helicopters via Viator. I wouldn't recommend this company or tour to anyone.

Dear Jenny; firstly our most sincere apologies that you feel that Cape Town Helicopters did not meet your expectations. Please allow me to add clarity to your review. On the day of your flight we had scheduled maintenance done on one helicopter meaning that we could not use this helicopter, thus it affected your delay. We also had three helicopters out on a charter flight which means we had to service all our guests with one helicopter at this time. However, we made a plan to not further delay your flight by arranging a helicopter with one of our partners that we regularly work with. Thank you for bringing your concerns regarding our receptionist and do I agree that this behaviour is not acceptable and will be addressed. I do find this odd as all our front office staff are always super friendly and helpful. Once again, my apologies that you did not enjoy the experience. Cape Town Helicopters are well known for only providing the best world class service to all our guests.

My wife and I took the helicopter trip a few days ago , if you want to get Birds Eye views of the coast line the stadium, Lions head , seal Island, camps bay , seapoint , Green point, and of course Table mountain then take this 20/25 min trip , we managed to get some great photos.

Majestic Views, Unforgettable Experience

From the exceptional service to the high quality helicopters, Cape Town Helicopters does it right. Immediately upon arrival, the staff at Cape Town Helicopters were helpful, professional and organized. After completing an initial safety tutorial, we were paired with another couple who would be joining the tour and ready to begin our journey. I’d say there is no bad seat in the helicopter, but that wasn’t our experience. Unfortunately my husband was situated in the middle seat (the staff organized seating arrangements based on weight). Although you can still see from the seat, views are obstructed and do not compare to the two window seats or the other front seat. Thankfully we all shared photos and videos at the conclusion of the tour, but do note that seating can impact your experience. Overall, there is nothing like this experience to appreciate the full breath of Cape Town, the prestine Atlantic Coast, or the stunning views of Lions Head and Table Mountain. Cape Town Helicoter delivers on all fronts—just be prepared that seating in the helicopter does matter. As a side note, due to the popularity of this experience and the quick turnover between rides, it is unclear if they are able to fully clean the headsets, which passengers are required to wear for noise and internal communication. Perhaps bring a disinfectant wipe just in case!

Thank you for this review and we are happy that you enjoyed the beautiful views and scenery of Cape Town and no better way to view this than from a helicopter. WE do apologies that the seat of the husband obstructed his view in some way, the reason that Cape Town Helicopters use Airbus Helicopters are that the seating is based on "cinema" type seating, this means the back seats are raised and spaced in such a way that obstruction of views are very limited. Furthermore, we regularly clean the headsets during the course of the day, but your point is noted and will be addressed accordingly!

Pickup was prompt, I was running late but driver was fine and patient. Great welcome and introduction. Friendly funny staff. Ride was exceptional. Thanks to the pilot and staff for making this a memorable first time for me. 20 mins flies by but is definitely enough to see all there is to see.
