Luis and Maria were very welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. At the ranch, they explained the importance of the difference between Spanish horses and horses that people are generally more familiar with. It was informative and helpful to understand (and not at all boring or longwinded), as it changes the way the horses are ridden (really important to know whether you're a beginner or a pro). It was also easy to focus on as well, since it was only my friend and I on the tour. We were transported to a beautiful resort while waiting for the horses to arrive to the beach. The amount of wait time and time spent riding was sufficient. We chose the 3pm time slot, which was great, as it was cooler and we were able to see the beginning of the sunset. I was actually pretty nervous having not ridden since childhood, but Emile stayed with me the entire time and coached me through the ride. My friend (who is a professional rider) was given a more experienced horse, and enjoyed the challenge of a change in riding style. Dinner at the resort was actually very good, which we were surprised about, seeing as food that's in included in excursions is usually mediocre. Overall, it was a really nice way to end our trip in Cartagena, which was heavily based on nightlife. It was a very personal experience that was tailored to us entirely. I would absolutely recommend it for all ages.

We rode with Luis and Maria (a father daughter duo) and they were amazing. They made the experience very comfortable. The ride was not too long, not too short, great food for lunch and we had so many laughs!! HIGHLY recommend.

This is a must-do activity in Cartagena and Maria and her family’s paso fino horse farm made it unforgettable. They graciously opened the area for us to learn about the paso fino horse and their importance to Colombia while watching an exhibition of the horses. Then, they took us to a wonderful beach restaurant area where we were able to ride the horses for a considerable amount of time. The activity is completely doable even if you have no experience riding horses (like us). The horses appeared to be well cared for and healthy, and the ride was smooth. They also took amazing photos of us. Thank you Maria!!!

I travel a lot with and without my children. This is one of the best tours I ever taken. I booked it for my 11 yr old son and I. It was his first time on a horse. The communication prior to the tour was great, I believe ots the father you speak with via whatsapp. It's a family business, the daughter Maria (guide) picked us up with a driver. We arrived at the range where you will see all of the horses. They give you a 30 min history about the horses. They then explain and show you how to handle the horses. You then drive 2mins to a nice beach restaurant where you get a drink so they can bring the horses to the beach. We took amazing photos (trust me I'm picky about pics and I loved everyone of them) and then we rode the horses down the entire beach. I think it was like an hour. Maria guided us on her own horse and they had someone walking with is next to our horses. Ex one guy for my son and another one for me But we didn't need them that's how great the horses are that you don't need them. Oh there's horse base on your comfort skills, beginner to advance. You can even ride in the water if you like. The horses were very trained and great. Trust me this is important because when I did horses in el salvador and other caribbean island they were wild and I almost fell off before. AMAZING TOUR !!!!! Thank you horses cartegena tour

We booked this excursion as we had an overnight on our cruise. We booked it several months in advance. I started communicating with Luis right away. He was ON TOP of things!! We chatted many many times before hand, and I got to know him pretty well. He was 100% available to us, and not only answered all of my questions, but was very flexible moving around our times when our plans changed a bit. He sent me some pretty great photos which actually led to us booking a second tour with him to Rosario Islands! We were in constant contact after our ship docked, while his daughter waited for us outside of the cruise port. They greeted us with such warmth! I felt like I was meeting with an old friend. They had a great van for the 4 of us, brought us to their stables, (which we had to ourselves) and had a great horse exhibition, then gave us a few options for lunch. The lunch was FANTASTIC! a beautiful place, very close to the beach, where afterwards we went to the horses, and rode along the super scenic, very quite beach. These horses are incredible! So well behaved. Luis gave us some very informative education on the horses, which we did not know. The weather was perfect. I was a bit frightened, so one of the horse hands stayed with me an my horse the entire ride, which made me feel much better. The beach was nearly deserted, so we basically had it all to ourselves. The ride was so pretty, and very relaxed. Totally let you go at your own pace. The horses were very friendly and obviously well taken care of. Luis and his daughter loved these horses, and it was evident. I cannot recommend this tour enough, and this company. It was a family run affair, and we had their 100% undivided attention the entire time. After the horseback riding, we did a city tour with them as well, and that was so perfect! Luis and his daughter even came with. Honestly, to us, it felt like we were just hanging out with friends we'd known all our life. It was a great great day in Columbia. If you are thinking of going riding with this company, do not hesitate. AND, ask them about their other tours, they do it all, and are top notch. Thank you Luis and Maria, we had the best time with you!

This was a really fun and great experience, Luis and his daughter are very very nice, and treated us great, it felt like we were with friends, I don't speak Spanish, but my gf does, but Luis and Maria both speak English also, so don't let language concerns deter you, they both educated us on the breed of the horses , and the history of how the Spanish brought horses to Colombia , the horses themselves were very calm, and for lack of a better description, happy, the horses love people, there is no reason at all to be nervous, Luis and Maria will take care of you, you are in good hands, after about an hour of class on learning about the horses we went to the beach, saddled up, and took many many photos and videos , Luis and Maria have professional cameras as well as will take photos and videos for you with your phones, the beach ride was a nice smooth ride, the horses love the water too, so don't be surprised if your horse takes you for a little wade (not deep, just up to their knees) hahaha , if you want to wear a helmet they are available, but you can also choose not to wear a helmet, after the beach ride (about an hour long) we had lunch at the local hotel restaurant nearby, (it's included) the lunch was delicious, Luis picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off, again, I cannot say enough about how friendly we were treated, Luis and Maria treated us as if we were good friends..... If you are looking for a great fun experience in Cartegena, go on this activity, you will leave with a very good feeling, thank you Luis and Maria, We had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet you

Nice guide & safe horses, but lots of waiting

Communication between us and our guide Maria & her father Luis who owns the company before the excursion was wonderful - very nice people and certainly Maria was very knowledgeable about the horses. The reason for 4 stars was due to the fact that we did more waiting at the nearby hotel restaurant than actually riding the horses, and the horse provided for me was not trained to enter the water, which I thought was part of the ‘riding on the beach’ experience - in fact, she was very averse to the water as she was primarily trained for competition. First we stopped at the ranch for a 20-30 minute introduction to the history of Colombian horses and what makes them such unique breeds. This was great! After that, we drove a short while to a beautiful hotel on the beach, where we waited for approximately 30 minutes for the horses to be geared up for the excursion. Thankfully, this wait included free water and/or juice. We eventually rode the horses on the beach, but the first 15 minutes was spent going back and forth on the beach doing a photoshoot/video. We greatly appreciated having photos of the experience (you really shouldn’t let go of the reins to grab your phone to take photos during the ride). The ride down the beach and back took approximately 45 minutes-1 hour. When we finished, we enjoyed a Peruvian-inspired lunch at the hotel. However, after we finished our meal, we waited for approximately 30-35 more minutes for our guide to upload & send all the photos to us. As someone who works with technology, I understand why this process took so long, but as they did not have another tour scheduled for the rest of the day, I would have appreciated if they had just sent the photos over later or had mentioned there would be so much free time to either swim in the hotel pool or hang out on the beach. As mentioned, Maria was knowledgeable and pleasant, and we felt safe on the horses, but it felt like the actual riding portion of the experience was the shortest part of the 4 hour excursion, so we just felt a little misled. I would recommend asking for a horse that does not fear entering the water so you can have that experience if you wish.

You are the most important for us, we give you all the confidence to tell us what you would like to do during the activity, remember it is a private and personalized tour, we would have liked to know you wanted to ride longer and believe me we would have no objection to do so. As for the pictures we prefer to send them at lunch because we had one (1) bad experience with a passenger since our camera was stolen after leaving it at the hotel and we lost the pictures but it would not have been a problem if you informed us that you wanted to swim on the beach, as I said before you are the most important for us. Thank you for your words and we will certainly take corrective actions to improve our service.

This is a wonderful family run tour and you’ll learn about the famous Colombian paso finas horses and their unusual gait. We really appreciated Luis and Maria and loved riding on the beach. The only thing I’d change is less time waiting for the horses and more time riding!

This trip was well organized by a friendly family. First we got an introduction about the Colombian horses, and then we went to the beach where we went on the horse. They made beautiful pictures and a video, and it was a fun ride. After the ride, we had dinner in the restaurant where in the meantime, the organizers were working on the video and shared the pictures before they dropped us at the hotel.

Okay so I read the reviews and I was hyped to get the Maria and her father experience. I did not. I had another tour guide and I could tell that he really was trying but it was not a spectacular experience. I did ride the horses and pictures were taken but I haven't received any of my pictures or details on how to do so. The hotel that you will eat lunch is absolutely beautiful and has a small but beautiful pool. The beach is so-so... Just like the beach at Bocagrande.

This was an awesome experience! The tour guide, Maria was so friendly, professional, and pleasant. She also spoke good English. She explained about the differences of the horses in their gait and demonstrated it with the various horses; it was really cool to see. Then we enjoyed a lovely, calm trot along the beach shore with a beautiful view. Afterwards, lunch at the restaurant was amazing! They offer some great options, and you have to try the coconut lemonade; very tasty! On the way back to our hotel, they even stopped and let us take a picture of the Cartagena sign when I asked which was very nice of them as we know they didn’t have to do that. This excursion is good whether you have horse riding experience or not—very easy. It’s worth the money; just do it!

Luis and his family were wonderful. They provided a lot of great information on the Paso Fino horses, their history and ancestory. They took great care of us and the horses and they truly love sharing the history of the horses. We loved riding on the beach and the hotel dinner was wonderful with a beautiful spot to watch the sunset. I would recommend the afternoon session for this reason.
