Animal Sanctuary Worthy of a Visit!
Heather_M, Feb 2024
This is an amazing place, that takes in animals that have been abused, trafficked, abandoned or treated poorly. For your entrance fee, you get a guide that will walk you through and explain all the situations, as well as the history of each animal, and what their current status is. There are some that can be released back to the wild upon completion of rehab and those that cannot, have a permanent home here. The keepers/guides are very passionate about their care of the animals and are thrilled to talk about them! If you take a cab or an Uber there, for a small fee, they will wait for you to take you back to your hotel or the city. It's about 30 minutes from Cusco, but so worth the visit! If you can donate extra, I know they will appreciate it!
Good cause

First off it doesn't look like a Sanctuary. The animals are in cages and the living areas are quite small. It was only after a caretaker came and showed us around did we learn how abused the animals were prior to being rescued and placed here. For example 2 of the pumas were in Lima at a Disco club and had their teeth and claws removed :( the sanctuary rescued them and actually made dentures for them so they can now eat meat. There are bears, condors, pumas, monkeys, llamas and alpacas as some of the bigger animals to see. One thing to note, if you pay at the Sanctuary it's 20soles per person vs $10usd per person here on Viator. Definitely a good cause to support either way.
Amazing

This is one of the highlights of my 18 day trip! Such a cool experience, the animals appeared to be safe, well cared, and content. My guide spoke excellent English. There were very few people there. Only hitch was I took an Uber to get there, not realizing how remote the sanctuary is. Would recommend arranging both to and from transportation so you don’t get stranded!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND- fun and easy trip from Cusco for a good cause

This place is absolutely amazing! The owner walked us through the sanctuary and answered all of our questions. We got to feed and pet the alpacas which was a highlight! It was also very cool to see condors so close up. They have all kinds of animals from across the Andes that they have rescued and are rehabilitating. They release the animals they can and take care of those they can’t. We took a taxi from Cusco and had Our driver wait while we were in the sanctuary and he took us back to Cusco for about 100 soles total) Super easy and fun afternoon trip for a great cause!
