What To Expect

After hotel pickup, relax on a scenic drive to the ancient site of Sacsayhuaman, an archeological park perched on the top of a hill. Admire spectacular city views before exploring the UNESCO World Heritage-listed site with your guide; see colossal stones crammed together to create a fortress-like structure. Decipher depictions of condors, pumas, and snakes upon the façade of the temple, enriching your knowledge of the Incan empire.

Return to your coach and continue on to Qenqo, home to an enormous sacrificial altar and sacred temple. See, too, Puca Pucara to discover the atmospheric military ruins of the site then set out to explore Tambomachay, where a series of aqueducts, moats and stolid stonewalls provided impenetrable defense from Incan attackers. Gaze upwards at the impressive Temple of the Sun, an ancient pyramid upon which resides the Convent of Santo Domingo.
Head back to the center of the city to continue your cultural exploration; stroll around the ambient and attractive Plaza de Armas before entering the sacred and spectacular Cusco Cathedral. Admire prismatic stained glass windows, classic colonial art and the Gothic grandeur of the architecture; the cathedral is home to Cusco’s oldest surviving painting, Pintura Senor de los Temblores, among other significant works.

Return to your Cusco hotel in the coach when the tour concludes.

Best way to explore Cusco
Kushagra_S, Jan 2024
Perfect way to explore Cusco and surrounding areas! Our tour guide Abraham went the extra mile to explain and give us historical context which made the tour a great choice if you want to make the best of your time. Highly recommended!
Must-have tour to start your journey in Cusco!
Miao_W, May 2023
Our guide, Adrial, was incredibly knowledgeable and provided us with a wealth of information about the Inca Empire and Spanish colonization. Despite the pouring rain, he was dedicated to ensuring that we covered all the landmarks mentioned in the tour. This tour was definitely a must-have to start my journey in the Inca Valley. Everything I learned on this tour provided a solid foundation for the rest of my trips to Machu Picchu and other Inca Valley cities.

This tour is a great way to take in some of the historical sights around Cusco and a good way to spend one of your acclimatisation days. Alain was a great tour guide and has a vast knowledge of the sights and the history of Cusco and because it is a private tour it doesn’t feel rushed. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cusco.
Absolutely Wonderful City and Archeological Tour!
Jessica_A, Feb 2023
This tour was fantastic! My guide was Yuber, and he was so incredibly knowledgeable, fun, energetic, and easy to talk to. We first traveled throughout the Sacsayhuaman park, where Yuber shared all about the Inca history and landmarks. After, we headed into the city and walked through some important Cusco squares and cathedrals. I had the best time and highly recommend.
Fabulous tour for the entire family

Our tour guide Aracely was amazing! Even our kids - who weren’t the best behaved on the tour but Aracely took in stride - ended up saying it was one of the highlights of our time in Cusco.
Not an English speaking tour, no return transportation to the hotel
James_g, Nov 2022
The description of this tour included the words English speaking guide, and round trip pick up and delivery from hotel. Neither one happened. The entire van was filled with Spanish speaking people and the tour guide was surprised that we only spoken English. On the average for every five words, the tour guide spoke, he spoke one word to us in English. He tried his best but it was very difficult with the Spanish speaking group we had. We missed out a lot on the history and culture of Cusco and the Incas. The return trip to the hotel by the van was not offered so we had to walk. This was difficult for us since we had a meeting at a particular time.
Perfect tour!

Wonderful information on culture and architecture! Stunning ruins. We had such a fun time with our guide!
Half day Cusco
Valerie_K, Mar 2020
I felt the description was not really accurate. It says city tour and Saqsaywaman. The city tour was really a tour of a large Catholic Church and a smaller church built on Incan foundations. We then got on the bus and drove to four Incan sites above the city. We were also looking for more science based information on why the Incan walls were earthquake proof and how did they know to do this. The answers we got were less than satisfactory. Overall this tour was good, but not quite what we expected or were really looking for.

Our wonderful guide was friendly and knowledgeable and very accommodating as we learned stories of the the local buildings, people, life, food, history. We loved it and would recommend and come back!
Remarkable guide
haddonw, Jul 2019
We have been on several Viator tours in different parts of the world and have been impressed by the quality and expertise of their guides. The tour with Niko was a revelation, rich with history, humour and a clear passion for the Inca culture. It was no surprise to find out that he was previously a professor of history. He so fired up our interest and imagination that it was almost as if we were living the history of the Inca civilisation and the centuries that preceded and followed it. It was a profoundly rewarding afternoon and we left feeling immensely grateful to have had the privilege of his wisdom and knowledge.

It's a good tour. The rain wasn't much of a help but they try to accommodate you in every way possible. Thumbs up!

The tour guide was fantastic and we had a wonderful time on this tour. The only thing I'd change is that we stopped at a clothing store at the end where we learned the difference between real llama wool and the fake kind. This added feature was nice, except we spent way too much time at the store at the end for shopping.

This excursion was a jam packed tour de force of Cusco's local archaeological sites as well as the Cathedral of Santo Domingo. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city and its people.

Valerie d, Nov 2017
Although you can get yourself to Sacsayhuaman by taxi, having a knowledgeable guide makes it so much better. Our guide from Viajes Pacifico was so good I thought he was a history professsor. The tour company was very professional. They emailed and called in advance to be sure were were ready on time. The coach was cleana and cofortable. We had purchased the local tourist ticket that included two if the sites on this tour, so the guide helped us sell the extra tickets, as the tour also included entry. This tour also went to the Cathedral, Temple of the sun aka Coricancha and the water fountain. All were really amazing. Work out on the step machine before coming to Peru as it seems everything is up hill, and do not forget a light rain coat as it rains sporadically but not for long at least in spring. Happy travels.
Nice tour with a visit to most sites...
William S, Oct 2017
Nice tour with a visit to most sites we wanted to see in city and the guide was well informed. Biggest concern was that on a 4 hour tour, they allocated over an hour to the alpaca weaving experience. All that time wasted at a shopping excursion when we could have spent more time at the real cultural sites.

Scott_N, Oct 2017
Tour was unbelievable! Guide was so knowledgeable it was like having our history teacher. Definitely a highlight of our trip. Only thing I did not appreciate was that the tour bus went out of our way to drop 2 different groups of guests at their hotels, which was not originally planned. Added an extra hour to an already long day. A lot of climbing, but well worth it!
