The bus trip was great our guide Stu was brilliant so informative, even though it wasn’t the best weather ( raining and cold ) I think this made our experience even better with so many waterfalls .

Great scenery, comfortable coach interesting driver/guide. Excellent cruise and reasonable lunch. Just be prepared for a very very long time on a coach and prepare with travel sickness tablets if susceptible. Frequent toilet stops.

A trip to Milford that has a different Sound to it

What an amazing experience this was for myself, wife and 6 year old son. The tour would not have been the same if self driving. Stu was an excellent host and the stories told as we drove to milford and back we found immensely informative and some funny ones our abs got a workout from laughing so much! This is a must do if in Queenstown and wanting something different!

Great commentary from our bus driver David (10 out of 10). A fantastic experience even on a wet and very cloudy day as we experienced this amazing place showing us exactly what it needs to be like to create the growth of plants on those cliff faces. An experience to be appreciated!!

Worth every penny!

This trip is incredible! Long bus ride for sure but our guide, Chao, was great! Kept us laughing along the way and had plenty of great information about Milford sound and the area in general. Once you’re there it’s hard to stop taking pictures, everything is so beautiful! Would recommend the trip and even do it again!

Queenstown to Milford Sound

Fantastic experience. Very entertaining coach driver and incredible scenery. Milford Sound was gorgeous. Route is pretty wobbly, if prone to motion sickness, be prepared. We opted to fly back from Milford Sound to Queenstown with Glenorchy Air and it was the best money spent. The pilots were super friendly and the views were extraordinary. It also got us back a few hours ahead of the coach so we had more of the day to enjoy.

David our bus driver was so knowledgeable about the history of the route down to Milford. The 5 hours there and back were great actually as we had some lovely stops to see scenery and learnt a lot from David! The boat trip was the most amazing experience of my life and was the perfect amount of time! The skipper was very knowledgeable too and willing to answer questions about anything! We saw seals, fish and penguins and I have nothing bad to say! Best day ever!

A Viator disaster

Paid for and confirmed with Viator. Given a time and place for pick up. Arrived at destination at 6.55am and waited for an hour while buses came and went not reading our names out. After phoning the tour operator they told us they let Viator know that it was fully booked and they should not have confirmed booking with us. Viator customer service just apologized for inconvenience, which was pretty rubbish response. Lost a whole day of touring and had to get up and wait around like an idiot on a bus that was never coming. Unlikely to book with Viator again.

Amazing driver, but communication issues with company

First of all, I want to start off by saying that our driver Stu was an amazing guide and person. He’s truly an asset to the company. Very kind, knowledgeable, and entertaining. It’s a REALLY long drive to and from Milford Sound’s dock, so he helped to make it more palatable. The roads to getting there in parts are so windy and twisty that it can make one queasy - beware. Just the nature of the topography. Now, onto issues: 1) This is my chief complaint — poor communication, as the company did not book correct time as shown on Viator (selected 6:55 AM departure, but they told us 7:40 AM was the one we were to be on) without consultation first to see whether it was OK. 2) Restroom out of order on bus 3) Some seatbelts on bus not working (NZ law to buckle up or substantial fine) 4) Chargers on bus not all working 5) Bring a blanket on the bus as it is kept absolutely freezing 6) The lunch is very minimal. It’s a packed lunch one may have had in school growing up. This is to be eaten at 2 PMish on the boat. So be sure to eat beforehand or on the road.
