Our tour guide Ruben was amazing. He was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and made the day a lot of fun. Hobbitenango was a great stop. Adorable area and beautiful views. Antigua is gorgeous. We were able to see the Holy Week processions, which were very impressive. We enjoyed our stop at lunch. Overall it was a great tour. Would highly recommend.

Go on your own; tour isn't worth it. Hobbitenango is AMAZING

Hobbitenango- absolutely amazing (so great, I went back the next day); Antigua- beautiful. Our tour guide- knowledgable. BUT he rushed us out of everywhere. This tour is advertised with ~3 hours in Hobbitenango and ~3 hours in Antigua. We spent exactly 1 hour in Hobbitenango and he rushed us out saying there was more to do and see, and he wanted to add another location for us to visit. We barely had time to walk up the mountain a little bit or see around the park much. After a quick stop in Antigua and lunch (which was meh; we would have rather paid to find our own lunch somewhere), he said "ok- back to Guatemala City!" We asked about that other location he rushed us out of Hobbitenango for, and after a little conversation with the driver said we could go there if we really wanted- did we? But by then, we felt kind of disenchanted with the idea of spending any more time with this tour company. So we opted for going back home and resting. I loved Hobbitenango so much, I went by myself the next day for sunset. THE AMAZING PHOTO I TOOK IS NOT FROM THIS TOUR, it's from me going on my own. An uber from Guatemala City was about $25 USD, and entrance to the park was under $10 USD. I'd say to just go yourself and enjoy this beautiful location. I'm a huge LOTR nerd, but I had some friends who weren't that into LOTR but they LOVED wandering around Hobbitenango. There were hikes around the mountain and it was a cool place to just hang out and wander around, grab a drink or some food, check out lovely views. I had a veggie pizza and it was fantastic (again, this was on my own time; not part of the tour. The included tour lunch was a choice of dry chicken, salmon (which I'm told was good), and some decent pasta - which you have to ask for when they tell you 2 non-veg options).

Hobitanango is a charming little tourist trap village in the mountains. You can see two volcanoes from there. Antigua is a fun town. Full of tourist stuff but also really cool people from all over the world. Our guide Ruben was the best!

Amazing service and underrated gem

Our guide, Ruben, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. I booked a private tour for myself and my older parents, who have difficulty walking around a lot. Ruben and Miguel (driver) were so kind and made sure to accommodate us with less walking and more driving us between locations, sitting with my Mom while we explored. Our lunch location in Antigua was also very good food. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this tour. Our favorite location, was surprisingly Hobbitenango and not Antigua. The views were just spectacular and I feel this is probably an underrated little gem. It was pleasantly fun and interesting.

Not worth the price

I want to premise this review by stating Rueben was a wonderful guide and the driver was great. A lot of the issues we experienced were out of their control and unfortunately not anticipated or planned for. I’m visiting Guatemala for New Years and it is crowded! I took this tour on a Friday, was picked up from my hotel in Guatemala City at about 8:20, and we did not pick up our last passenger in Antigua until about 10:30- getting us to Hobbitenego at about 11. By this time there were incredibly long wait times for everything. So much so, most of the photo opportunities had very long lines so many of us did not get the famous photo on the giants hand or coming out of the hobbit cave. We only had about an hour of free time at the park- though we waited a long time for the transport up to the park and the transport back down. We spent more time waiting then actually enjoying the park. Lunch was decent. Nothing super exciting. We then did a walking tour of Antigua, but still was very crowded so many photo ops were just too crowded with locals and tourists. Ruben did make the best of the day. Just wish we had gotten an earlier start to hopefully skip all the long wait times. Did not make it back to Guatemala City until almost 8 pm. Unfortunately, the tour was just not worth the price. Spent most of the day standing in lines.

Rueben and Carlos was nothing but amazing. Rueben was super knowledgeable about the area. Carlos got us around safely. Rueben made sure we had a time of our lives. The chocolate factory was definitely a hit. I would recommend this tour any day of the week.

Great day out in Hobbitenango and Antigua

I had a private tour with Roben. He got me to Hobbitenango early on a Monday and we were the 1st ones there. No waiting in line for taking pictures. He did a great job of taking my pictures and he allowed as much time as I wanted. After Hobbitenango we had a lovely tour of Antigua and a great lunch. He was very professional and explained interesting facts and history of Guatemala.

Good: - Friendly tour guide and driver - Great trip to Hobbitenango with ample time to enjoy the surroundings and take pictures, and very patient tour guide who helps take your pictures as well - Enjoyable trip to the small town Antigua, and private tour guide helped navigate to a few spots I wanted to check out more in-depth at a leisurely pace - Smooth logistics overall for the day Room for improvement: - I explained this to my tour guide as well - the included "Premium Lunch" was an unfortunate disappointment. Food is incredibly important to me, and I had very limited meal options during my short stay in Guatemala and really wanted to try some local cuisine instead of the generic meal that was "included". I couldn't eat half the food that was "included" aka pre-paid. For example, the included hibiscus tea was way too sweet and undrinkable, and the restaurant ended up charging me $2 USD out of pocket for water. Aside from a generic chicken and rice entree, the dessert was simply vanilla ice cream which I never order anywhere. I ended up finding a bakery nearby to eat something else instead. The prepaid "premium lunch" just seemed like a waste in terms of both money, time, and my meal opportunities. It would've been much better if the tour gave better local options or just let me get my own lunch instead.

Had a great time on this tour! Our tour guide Winston was very knowledgeable! Hobbitenango is a must see if you are visiting Guatemala and I highly recommend doing the swing while you are there! Wish the tour didn’t feel so rushed and we had a bit more time to explore Antigua but overall we had a great time!

We only had 2 days in Guatamala City, this was the perfect experience for us! We got to visit Hobbitenango and take in the full experience. Then we went to Antigua, learn about the culture and history of the Mayans. Our guide was very knowledgeable! Bring comfortable shoes for the walking tour as the roads are cobblestone! Lunch was included which was a plus for us! Highly recommend.

What an amazing park and city! Hobbitenango was such a fun experience - felt mythical. Volcanos surrounding the area gave quite the back drop and even witnessed one of them erupting. Antigua has so much history and beautiful buildings. Winston was so knowledgeable and personable - definitely made the experience so rich! Would recommend this trip and Winston to anyone looking into this tour.

Hobbitengango is a mythical place in the highlands of Antigua. This is the ideal place to visit for all those Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans not only for the hobbit-like houses, but the nature, and movie-like games. Antigua is a colonial city beautifully preserved through the passing of time. Getting to know this place in the company of an experienced tour guide is the best you can do so you can fully appreciate all the beauty behind each convent, church, and edification. Had amazing tour guys that were very informative and showed me all that Guatemala had to offer. The only downfall was the weight for the hobbitenango excursion makes the trip there pointless as you wait for an hour for a short time left to actually enjoy the place, not sure how this could be fixed as it’s out of the tour guides control but overall a very eventful tour.

This tour was amazing! My guides, Astrid and Pablo, were so kind, sweet, knowledgeable, and professional. I learned so much about Antigua and took some awesome photos! The driver, Carlos, was also so sweet! This tour is great for families, couples, and solo travelers! I highly recommend this tour!! You won’t want to miss it!
