Overview

With this incredible tour, you’ll start with a helicopter flight over the ancient glaciers of the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Icefield. After seeing this marvel of Mother Nature from above, you’ll land at a remote glacier camp for yet another ride on the wild side: zooming across the Alaskan tundra—high, rugged mountains surrounding you—pulled by a rambunctious group of Alaskan huskies. It’s truly an only-in-Alaska experience.

If you are arriving on a ship or staying at a hotel in downtown Juneau, you will meet outside, under the cables of the Goldbelt Mt. Roberts Tram (490 S Franklin St) at your pick-up time. Find a Coastal Representative dressed in bright orange holding a yellow sign that reads 'Coastal Helicopters' to be checked in. If you are staying at a hotel near the airport, you will be met by a Coastal Representative outside the main doors of the lobby. We will be contacting you regarding your pick up details.

Dress warmly and in layers, and wear rubber-soled shoes such as a light hiking boot or athletic shoes. The tour company will provide overshoes and can supply raincoats as needed. Remember to bring your camera, film and binoculars!

Please ensure your weight is in the correct format (kgs/lbs) when you include your weight at checkout
WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS – Please remember that each passenger will be weighed at our facilities. Be sure accurate weights have been reported and proper passenger types have been selected for each passenger. Misreporting weights or selecting the wrong passenger type may cause tour delays and cancellations without refunds.
Failure to provide mandatory information will result in cancellation of bookings. You must provide individual weights and pick up location details.
Coastal Helicopters will try our best to accommodate parties/families in the same helicopter. However, we cannot guarantee seating as it is all based on helicopter weight and balance, as well as the other parties within the flight. This will be determined at the time of check in once everyone on the flight has weighed in. Should your family/party be in split into multiple helicopters, the landing will happen together. Please also note that lap children are NOT allowed, and each passenger must purchase a full fare ticket.

This was an awesome experience! The helicopter ride and the ability to see the topography from above was stunning, loved landing on the glacier and the dog sledding experience was phenomenal. The dogs are happy and healthy. Loved that there were puppies we could hold. The guides were great, safety practices were robust and everyone who worked there was awesome from start to finish. I would do it again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend it. Great experience.

These guys are first class from greeting you at the cruise dock to narrating the city on the way to the helicopter to the actual ride and dog sled camp. LOTS of good info and such a fun thing to dogsled on the actual glacier vs just on a road. Highly highly recommended tour!

The helicopter flight...

The helicopter flight over the mountains to the snow field was incredible! I saw at least 30 waterfalls. Our musher was friendly and knowledgeable. The dogsled tour was very fun. Overall, this was an easily accessible, once in a lifetime adventure that even my 84 year old grandmother was able to enjoy.

This was the most exciting, awesome, fantastic adventure of a lifetime. The helicopter ride was stunning with sweeping views of surrounding glaciers and beautiful mountains and forest. Arriving at the dog camp was surreal, surrounded by stunning vistas and the sound of happy barking dogs. The musher was so friendly and we had a fantastic sled ride and he gave us a photo break where the dogs could rest and we could pet them to our hearts' content. Then another highlight was holding 2 month old puppies, which my children will never forget. Another incredible helicopter ride back to the airport. This is the most worthwhile adventure and I could not recommend it more. It does frequently get canceled due to weather (not their fault and people should not leave bad reviews on a company for something out of their control). Just have a back up plan but if you're able to do this, you are in for a treat.

Wow wow wow! This excursion was unreal! It was worth every penny. We had the most amazing time! Everything ran so smoothly from the pick up, to the helicopter ride to the dog sledding. The views from the glacier were just stunning. I felt like we landed on another planet. It absolutely took my breath away. The dogs were so sweet and it was so cool to be able to do real snow dog sledding in the summer. We looked at other tours that do it without snow, but nothing can compare to a real snow dog sledding experience. The dogs were so sweet and we enjoyed loving on our whole team as we took sporadic breaks during our ride. Everyone got the opportunity to ride the rails, as well as sit up front. Our guide was very knowledgable and cool. After our ride, we got to snuggle some of the adorable puppies before we took the helicopters back down to the town. Such an unforgettable experience and the highlight of our whole Alaska trip!

What a great experience! Company easy to find once we got of cruise ship. Helicopter ride was great and so was dog sledding. Make sure to pack gloves, beanies and other warm gear as it is cold on the glacier! Would do it all over again.

This turned out to be one of the best experiences of our lives! Getting to the heliport was a quick 15min van ride. The helicopter pilot made it a very smooth ride with lots of sightseeing locations on the way to the glacier. Arriving at dogsledding camp was a sight to behold with a huge snow field ready for dogsledding. Our musher had full control of the dogs and the dogsled, made scheduled stops for us to rotate who got to stand in the back of the sled, pet the dogs, and take pictures. And after we finished the sledding we got to pet little puppies! It’s fun for the whole family and I highly recommend this excursion! A++

Pick up from cruise terminal was easy, the guide held up a clear sign. Be prepared to pay for photos if you wish to do so, lovely photos. Always have good trips with Viator. Thank you.

This tour from start to finish was amazing. The highlight of my Alaskan cruise. Helicopter flights were great but the dog sledding was next level. Musters care so beautifully for the dogs and I thought the whole experience was amazing. I would highly recommend that if you have the opportunity do it!

We got the call at 7:30 that the excursion would be cancelled due to weather by the dog sledding. Totally get it. But they should gave converted the excursion to just the helicopter ride so my family had at least part of the experience. Also, our ships excursion still went to the dog sledding (we saw the line up when we passed). We like viator very much but this was a huge disappointment.

The view of Haines and the Mendenhall/Herbert Glaciers was incredible. The sled dog encampment was huge with 240 huskies. We got our choice of sitting on the sled or standing as well as a chance to pet the dogs. Lots of fun. Musher Josie was very informative.

This was a great experience. The staff at Coastal Helicopters are great and helpful. There was a safety video and then we boarded the helicopter. Beautiful views and a smooth ride. Then, we landed at a camp where the dogs live and sledded on the glacier. Everyone at the camp was helpful. Learned a lot about the dogs and their life. A truly great day!
