Overview

While in port in Kauai, take a half-day tour to Waimea Canyon, known as the ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.  In stark contrast to Kauai’s lushness is Waimea Canyon State Park. The canyon offers one of the best views of the island's western coast.  Drive through Hawaii’s first sugarcane plantation and to the town of Waimea, made famous by Captain Cook hundreds of years ago. Before concluding your tour back at your original departure point, stop to see the water fly high at Po’ipu’s Spouting Horn on the island's southern side.

What To Expect

Your tour will begin with pickup from Nawiliwili Harbor. From there, you’ll visit Waimea Canyon, the largest canyon in the Pacific at 14 miles long (22.5 kilometers), 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) wide and more than 3,600 feet (1,097 meters) deep. From the lookout you’ll see incredible views of the green valleys below.

Then, hop into an air-conditioned coach and head through the islands’ original sugarcane plantation, Old Koloa Town, as well as the site of Captain Cook’s first landing in Waimea. Your guide will provide commentary about Kauai’s rich history as you go.

Conclude your shore excursion with a visit to Spouting Horn in Po’ipu. Waters can shoot up to 50 feet (15 meters) high as the ocean surges under a lava shelf and up through the opening. After departing from Spouting Horn, your guide will return you to your original departure point.

You Must Do This Tour!

This was an excellent tour. I have to give Roberts Hawaiian (tour operator) huge credit for rearranging and then rearranging the tour a second time to accommodate for a change in our cruise ship schedule. The driver, Leoni, was excellent with great information about Kauai throughout the drive. The stop at the blowhole was a bonus I wasn't expecting. I highly recommend this tour on your trip to Hawaii.

Awesome view of the canyon. Painted Church was also great. Leone’s narrative of the history and culture were also good. Wish there was another stop and more to see on the return trip from this canyon.

We were picked up right at the cruise pier terminal. It was convenient. The driver, Sandy and the tour guide, Andrew were very experienced in showing us the history and sceneries of the Island. The driving tour was very comfortable and entertaining along the way. If we were allowed to stay longer at the Waimea Canyon, 45 minutes were a little bit too short. However, the trip was enjoyable.

The view was spectacular; however one travelled 5 hours round trip just to see a beautiful vista for 20 minutes. There was nothing else to it.

We have three brief stops on this tour, one at Spouting Horn one of the most photographed spots on Kauai with ocean water spraying like a geyser up to 50 feet in the air. Hanapepe Valley Lookout a picturesque view of the lush tropical valley that was once a Hawaiian taro farming community. Waimea Canyon known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, this natural wonder was carved out by the Waimea River and the collapse of a volcano. mahalo again,

No food stops.

The driver was knowledgeable, courteous, and outgoing. 2 stars for no food stop. He had another tour to get to. I couldn’t focus on the last half of the tour because I was so hungry, and there were many others on the tour complaining about the same issue. A 10 min stop at any place would have been perfect. Not stopping ruined the tour for me.

Waimea Canyon was so amazing! Photos don't do it justice. You really should go. We had about 30 minutes there which was a good amount of time. The road trip is windy though and takes a while to get there. Loved it so much!

Waimea Canyon was beautiful However the trip was very long and boring. Also the bus did not stop to buy or to offer time to provide waters or snacks . Literally, 4 hours lost without water and only 30 minutes at the Canyon

The trip was amazing! We had an excellent driver who gave us information about the the city, the canyon, and general information. He was very helpful to all passengers requiring a little bit of.extra help getting on and off the bus. The canyon is just beautiful and breathtaking! Well worth the trip!
