This is an extremely cool experience to book, especially if you already have some background knowledge in archery. You will see the distinct differences between modern day archery and the art of Kyudo. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and patient, highly recommend!

Fascinating experience loved it and the sensei was a very patient master of his art. He sees it as a total experience for health like a martial art.
Once In A Lifetime

Cannot say enough positive things about this wonderful experience! It was a truly amazing experience to actually learn from a kyudo master. The master's student assisted and helped translate while we learned about kyudo and then did some practice shots. The master and his student were so sweet and informative. Would highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience. Unlikely to get the opportunity elsewhere to get tips and ask questions about kyudo from someone who has studied it for so long.
Fun and educational

Very fun experience! Wish we got to shoot more but it was overall a great learning activity. We communicated thanks to one of his students that helped as an interpreter!
Must do for fans of history and athleticism

This was an amazing experience! He was so patient and kind and really invested in teaching the art of Kyudo. Definitely made me wish there was something like this in chicago that I could continue to do. I will come back to Kyoto just do to this next year
Amazing, super fun

It's rare for a 6th dan in kyudo to be offering this very personal and fun experience to dabble in kyudo. We had a very good time. Sensei had a translator to explain the steps and guided us through the process. Highly recommend
Awesome archery experience!

For a person with no prior exposure to archery, this was a fantastic first time archery experience. The sensei has an instruction manual available in English to explain the basics then provides a demonstration after we'd finishing reading the marked pages in the book. Lots of guidance is provided on the correct posture and positioning and breathing technique. For females - hand over hand support is provided when required. I attended the session with one other person so we each had three rounds (two arrows each round). There would have been time to have a fourth round but we'd decided to ask the sensei to provide another demonstration at the end.
Excellent

Authentic Kyudo experience

The archery sensei and the young assistant were amazing. We learned the basics of Kyudo and the sensei helped each step of the way. We had 2 teenagers and 1 kid (10) and they all loved the experience!
Amazing lesson start to finish
Alexandra_D, Dec 2023
We went as a group of 4 plus 1 friend that wanted to watch and take pictures. Our instructor was very welcoming and we were able to learn and understand him through a mix of our basic Japanese and the instruction books he shared with us. He was very personable and shared some of his stories about his archery experience and accomplishments. Then after performing a demo he had us come up one by one to practice the stances and shoot our first arrow. Some of us had archery experience coming in, while others little to none and either way we all found it to be such a beautiful and rewarding experience. We each got multiple turns to have a go at it and the hour flew by! We wish we had done two hours at least. Highly recommend. Even if you have no experience with archery or are more familiar with the western style this is very much worth the booking. The instructor is knowledgeable, patient, and kind which helped make the whole session totally worth it.
Very fun and very worth it

Very memorable and a great learning experience with an amazing teacher. It was extremely fun and I recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto
The lesson was one hour,...
Jascha_B, Nov 2023
The lesson was one hour, every participant (4) had 4 shots. For everyone who might think this is not very much: every shot contains a process, and every shot is a lot of experience. I strongly recommend it! The teacher was very nice. He spoke Japanese but he had a young assistant who translated in English. It was my very first time in archery and like in every art there was a lot (too much) information (the steps, the aiming etc.) for this first lesson. But anyway: it was very good and totally worth the time and price! I guess the teacher never sees anybody of the tourists like us ever again but anyway he took his time and spent his attention to everyone of us. Arigatou gozaimasu!
Must try

An excellent and thoughtful experience
Cynthia_B, Nov 2023
Excellent indeed. Thoughtfully conducted by individuals committed to this traditional martial art. One left with a sound appreciation and an understanding that to achieve significant skill is an endeavour of many years duration.
Excellent well presented...

Do KyuDo!

Had an good lesson from a very nice Japanese gentleman. He didn’t speak English but it’s amazing how we can communicate through intentions and gestures! I’m thinking of taking up the are sport when I return home.
An amazing day

Must Do in Kyoto!
Darnella_R, Oct 2023

The art of Kyudo made easy
Yuki_W, Oct 2023
As someone who is not athletic, and has never tried archery... this was an incredible experience. I went with my partner, and there were 2 other people participating. We each got to shoot 6 times (admittedly my arms were shaking by the last one, haha). Despite having limited English, instruction was very clear, and the whole time was very quiet and meditative. He even showed us where to find Kyudo resources in our home countries. If you do this experience, my only recommendation would be to ask for a chest guard. Trust me, drawing a heavy bow can be painful without one!
