Zaki is a very friendly and skilled driver. The trip from Marrakesh is a bit long but the van is really comfortable and modern and Zaki was always making sure we were happy with the trip. Ait Benhaddout is worth the trip. You cannot miss it.

This was a wonderful day trip from Marrakech. It looks like a long day but there are plenty of stops along the way and the scenery in the Atlas Mountains is breathtaking. Our driver, Mohammad was quite simply outstanding. The road twists and turns but his driving was smooth, safe and assured. He knows the road well! He was also polite, charming and looked after us very well. The minivan was a new Mercedes, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. The pickup and administration was faultless. At Ait Ben Haddou our local guide was Saber who was born in the old village and whose parents, grandparents and for generations back had lived there. It was so interesting to hear the history and stories from someone who is so obviously proud of his heritage. Lunch was pretty good too. We would highly recommend this trip.

This tour is amazing and not to be missed. Experiencing Ait Ben Haddou in this way is ideal. This is a private tour that you can take at your own pace. Our tour guide/ drive Zaki was absolutely brilliant. His vehicle is spacious and comfortable. He was so gracious stopping whenever we asked for pictures and comfort breaks. Learnt so much on this tour. It was a lovely time. One of the best experiences I have had in Morocco!

Best day in Morocco!

Wow, what an incredible trip. We were booked at an all inclusive but wanted a bit more from our trip to Marrakesh. We booked this excursion (2 adults, 1 6yo), and Zaki our driver was incredible. He took us through the stunning Atlas Mountains and amended the stops to our preference. He was so friendly and a fabulous driver, making us all feel safe and welcome. The scenery and Ait Benhaddou were well worth the drive (3.5 hours each way). Our guide (Hassan) at Ait Benhaddou also amended the tour as we wished and we explored parts of the Kasbah that other visitors weren’t going, making it extra special. Travelling with a small child and a mobility impairment is normally very stressful but this was an absolute breeze and the best experience we had in Morocco. Highly recommend. 10/10.

Worth the trip

Like going back to see the caravan route from Timbuktu to Marrakech stopping at Ait ben Haddou. We had a very nice driver, Mohammed who explained many things during our trip, and Mazzid the local Berber guide with his good knowledge around the area.

Spectacular day at Ait Ben Haddou

What a spectacular day!!!! Let me start with how wonderful our driver was. He greeted us with great warmth and a wonderful explanation of what to expect from our day. Then we were whisked away in his spotless Mercedes Van, and he explained many of the sights we passed on our journey out of Marrakech. Then before we knew it we were ascending the beautiful Atlas Mountains with their varied colors and breathtaking views. Our private driver knew exactly where to stop for the best vantage points and a coffee or rest room break. As we descended into Berber county we passed beautiful and ancient Kasbahs. But the highlight was the ancient 11th Century village of AIT Ben Haddou. There we were transferred to our private guide. The town which sits like a citadel above the river valley, boasted both a 1000 year history but a unique connection to our modern reality. Some 30 movies were filmed at this location including Gladiator and Game of Thrones . After our informative tour with wonderful views, we dined at a local restaurant and rested. Our journey home was just a marvelous as the journey there. As we ascended the Atlas Mountains we took a different route, that brought us past numerous Kasbahs and villages that clung to the mountainside and cascaded down to the green and lush river gorges. It was a spectacular day. If I had to offer one item to prepare for the wonderful journey would be wear sensible shoes and be prepared for the numerous switchbacks which are in inevitable part of a mountain journey. Also, cash is the currency of the incidentals along the way.

Best way to get to this Game of Thrones village, safe and nice driver

This was a nice tour to Ait Benhaddou. We decided to go private instead of group tour to ensure we had enough leg room in the vehicle, as the drive is a long one, and I have bad knees and my husband is very tall. This was a very good decision! The van was new, clean and spacious. Our driver, Muhammad, was a really really good driver. I felt very safe and I did not need to take motion sickness medicine, which I usually do when going on any trips up and down mountains. The drive was long, but I was never bored because the scenery was lovely to see and always changing (my husband slept the whole time, both ways!). Our nice driver even stopped at some locations for me to take pictures and for pee and tea breaks. Our tour guide in the UNESCO village was good. I think personally I would have preferred wandering around on my own instead. But his information was good and he was very nice. My suggestions for this trip: check the weather beforehand. I am very glad I had my winter jacket with me (I mean, it’s February so no surprise there), but I wish I had my boots. It was very muddy at some parts. Anyway, I recommend this trip!

Muhammed was a fantastic tour guide, and the trip overall was fun and engaging despite the length. The stop at Kasbah Telouet actually stole the show, though Ait Benhaddou was also impressive. At the end we were caught in a torrential downpour coming down the narrow roads of the Atlas Mountains, and Muhammed navigated deftly and safely. Highly recommend the trip, and Muhammed!

Fanastic Day Trip to Aït Ben Haddou

Our trip to Aït Ben Haddou and through the Atlas Mountains was wonderful! First, our driver Hicham made it easy to meet up steps from our riad. He explained about the areas we were passing through on our way to the kasbah and was always ready to answer questions. He was also happy to answer general questions about Morocco and was patient and helped us navigate rest stops and cultural questions. He even bought my friend a roadside ‘latte’ when she half jokingly asked for one. When she said she really really wanted to ride a camel, he made it happen! In Aït Ben Haddou, guide Abdou was ready to meet us and gave a first rate tour of the ksar (castle/village) and kasbah (fortified house). He was personable, great English (he also speaks French, Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Berber), and has a good sense of humor. He is from the town and understands the challenges and successes of hosting a UNESCO heritage site firsthand. When we felt a little down with the heat toward the end, he found cold water for us and made sure we were feeling better before continuing. The conversation with him was delightful and we felt well-cared for. We were sad to part from Abdou and Hicham, but they gave is a fantastic day in the Atlas Mountains and we highly recommend this tour!

This was an amazing experience. Our drive Muad was so entertaining and fun. We stopped to take pictures and he gave us information along the way. We also stopped for breakfast. Our guide was also very informative. The location was amazing and so captivating. We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend if you are visiting Marrakech.
