What To Expect

Leave Mexico City behind on a private tour to the ancient Teotihuacán pyramids. After meeting your guide at a central location, head by metro to the town of San Martin de las Piramides, located about 30 miles (48 km) outside of Mexico City. Upon arrival, begin your journey into Teotihuacán, a UNESCO World Heritage site, at the on-site museum, where your guide points out reconstructions of local houses, as well as relics discovered in the archaeological zone. Enter the ancient city and stroll through the Calzada de los Muertos (Pass of the Dead) to reach the Sun Pyramid, the area's tallest, towering at 206 feet (63 meters). Huff your way to the top for impressive bird’s-eye views of the Calzada de los Muertos. Gain insight into the Moon Pyramid’s history and architecture and hear why the Aztecs dubbed Teotihuacán the City of the Gods. After touring Teotihuacán, we will visit a local family and discover that cactus is an important cultural and historical symbol in Mexico. It might surprise you to learn that cactus is a staple in Mexican cuisine! There’s nothing like a home-cooked meal to end a day. Share lunch with another family at their house and enjoy getting to know each other and more about everyday life in Mexico. After your satisfying meal, hop on public transportation with your guide and return to your departure point.

Awesome experiences with locals
Gilbert_Z, Nov 2023
This was the best tour for what we wanted. The tour the tour guides and the experiences after the pyramids were awesome. Loved it all and highly recommend!
great day trip

Ulysses was an excellent guide, calm cool collected and in touch with & knowledgable of the local area because he’s a local, he also speaks excellent English. The tour is well-paced and informative. He offers information of the archeology without any bias - which is important regarding this land. He also offers a non-religious, but spiritual perspective too. There’s a cool little pit stop for local beers before visiting an obsidian craftsman’s home. Although this states “dinner with the locals” we never saw them, & they weren’t introduced to us, but nonetheless at that point in the night everyone in the group is hungry & it was nice to eat a local, quaint meal. We enjoyed the sites, lots of information as well as being able to explore a little further into the local area than you would be able to on your own. I was personally having a rough morning as a solo traveler & this tour brightened my day & was just what I needed to get out of the hustle & bustle of the city.
One of the best days of my trip to Mexico!
Michelle Z, Aug 2019
I visited Mexico City for my 30th birthday and we were able to book this tour last minute with Urban Adventures after my morning tour fell through. Our tour guide (whose name I can’t remember) was so friendly and knowledgable - young, funny, long hair and spoke both English and Spanish. We started off meeting at the city’s center near MUMEDI. The meeting point was easy and accessible, then we all jumped in a van and headed to the ruins of Teotihuacan. From the start of the tour, until the very end, we were given lots of useful, interesting information about the temples and the different civilizations that inhabited the nearby regions. We also got the opportunity to climb both the Moon and Sun Pyramid - and the guide was nice enough to take people who didn’t want to walk up the stairs to other parts of the area in the meantime. After that, we were all escorted to a nearby home of a local artist, and given a tour of his craft, and allowed to sample a variety of tequilas. During this time we bought some souvenirs and learned more about local agriculture. Finally, we ended the trip with a homemade meal, and dined on delicious pozole blanco! What a delightful end to a long day! Would highly recommend this company!!!

Arturo the driver was awesome! He'd show me little extra trees and such. Rodrigo was very well spoken (chingon!!) and had so much cool information to share. They were a deligtd. Bring layers. It's warm climbing the pyramids. It is a good hike. Wear comfy shoes. The vistas are outta this world. Be prepared for a long day. After Teohuatican, you have a few drinks see handmade obsidian, then a homemade dinner. I'm vegetarian. No problem. I had nopales with rice and horchata. I suggest leaving tips at these stops. Free food and drinks? It's amazing. I also tipped the driver and tour operator. 10 hours of friendliness and transport.
Lovely day meeting new friends

My husband, Andy and I had a lovely day touring Teotihuacan, got to a factory and eating dinner. All was Timley, liesurly and fun. Although the guide was very nice, he didn’t provide much guiding, or historical information. But we had fun regardless.

Ady is an amazing tour guide, she had answers for all the curious questions our group had apart from the knowledge about the history of the site. Later we visited a local obsidian artisan to learn more about it and pulque/mezxcal/tequilla/ cactus fruit liquor, our group had a lovely time. Then visited a local family home for a delicious dinner cooked just for us, as we got back to the city she was helpful on uber pickups/ways to reaching our hotels. I would 100 recommend this tour to everyone who wish to visit the pyrimads

This trip is totally worth it! My 21 year old son and I both enjoyed the entire experience! It's a long day, so pack plenty of water, sunscreen and get a good night's rest before hand! The pyramids are a definite bucket list activity, once in a lifetime. My son and I loved visiting the local family for some samples of tequila, mescal and pulca. The other family provided our dinner which was great! Our guide was Adi, she was awesome!!!!! All around worthwhile side trip :

Diana G, Feb 2018
The tour guide was great, explaining every structure we saw. The place is breathtaking but I would suggest to visit it early morning to avoid the sun and the crowds. The visit to the first family was totally worth it since it included a little tequila-mezcal-pulque tasting which was great. The dinner with the local family, you'd expect something more personal and traditional, but neither the dinner was personalized the family didn't even dinner with us, instead they just served the food or traditional beside of the salsa preparation, the actual dinner wasn't traditional Mexican food. Or maybe I just expected other menú.

Great tour! Our guide Rodrigo was really knowledgeable about the pyramids, and has excellent English and communication skills. We really enjoyed having dinner at the local family's house. This was a wonderful way to experience Mexico!

Gita K, Jan 2018
Cesar was our guide. He was extremely passionate, knowledgeable and watchful of his group. I enjoyed the agenda from the Pyramides to the Obsidian Tour to the food tasting. This is not a poor reflection of Cesar, but the food tasting was definitely displayed as a sponsored product program - a racket. The presenters were quick to have us taste 10 things, and the prices for their products were way overpriced - even by US standards. While not pushy, I'm sure this is why they move through the presentation quickly because few buy. The prices should be slashed about 75 to be reasonable for purchase. One 1.5 ounce sample of jam was 5 USD while a 10 ounce jar was 10 USD. 99 of people would never pay that price even in the US. That part was a scam. I think the tour company could afford to get a dedicated taxi or bus from the obisidian experience to dinner. The dinner was tasty!

VICTORIA_R, Jan 2018
The best way to spend Thanksgiving!! Dress comfortably, bring a sweater, and a cap...atop the pyramids, it is very windy. Do not be fooled...the steps are quite steep and there is one rope for guidance. Trust and believe...if you don't know Jesus before reaching to top, you will get to know him on the decent!! The dinner with the local family...worth every bite and some!! The samples of vodka, the conversation with the locals....OMG!!!
Following a slightly delayed start...
Deborah T, Jan 2018
Following a slightly delayed start, waiting on the arrival of other group members who had taken a morning tour elsewhere, our Pyramid adventure began in earnest. We piled into a comfortable, mini- bus and headed out of the city. Transport was meant to be on the metro but this was far preferable as it allowed our Guide, Nathan, to speak with us enroute to our destination- there was a separate driver. First stop was the Palacios de Tetitla - an archeological dig made significant by the paintings that were discovered. Nothing prepared us for the sight of the Temples/ Pyraminds of the Sun and Moon - magnificent! Those who wished to do so, climbed to the top of one or both of these impressive structures always with the careful guidance of our guide, Nathan. There are clean, modern toilet facilities at the site and be prepared to be approached by the many touts on site, selling everything from water, through silver jewel leery to animal noise makers. Be assured none of the latter market aggressively. It is wise to take a hat even in mid winter as the sun was blazing down upon us. Of course, you can purchase a hat from one of the many stalls leading to the main site for a very reasonable price. Our group was comprise of a majority of under 35's which made the Tequila and other luscious liquids tasting session a hoot. The family who offered this service were delightful, with the patriarch being especially knowledgeable about both Agave and Obsidian. A modest but tasty evening meal at a family residence provided a fitting finale to a memorable and diverse experience.

We had a great time with Rodriguez and Bene. Roy is the best. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and knew where all his group was at all times. He was very helpful in getting us all back to the best place for us. Our group enjoyed the tour to the shaman and the wonderful dinner prepared by the local family. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Nathan was an excellent tour guide. Friendly, well informed, patient and fun to be with. Family dinner was excellent. Visited a home where we were given a tutorial on tequila and obsidian. Good value. Highly recommend. One comment: why meet at Museum of Modern Design and then walk to Bellas Artes to catch MetroBus?

We scheduled a last minute tour and the booking manager at Viator was able to find us this really fun tour. Our guide, Rodrigo, was very, energetic and spoke English well. A great time spent for half a day in Mexico and well worth the price point.

ELIZABETH S, Nov 2017
I'm so late to the party but I really wanted to review the tour I took back in February. I have wanted to go see the pyramids at Teotihuacan for as long as I could remember. I found this tour and decided to book it and I am so infinitely happy I did. Our tour guide I think it was Leon, guy in his mid/late 20's, fedora and glasses was so awesome and knowledgeable about not only CDMX and the history but Teotihuacan as well. Our group was small, our tour guide and myself and friend and 2 others. We walked up both pyramids and when we got to the top of Sol, we said a little prayer to the sun god. It was such an emotional moment that brought me to tears. After the pyramids, we walked into San Francisco de Los Piramides and visited a local obsidian worker. At his home, we also had a small tasting of pulque and mescal. We then went to the neighboring town of San Marcos to visit a distillery and then head to a local home for dinner. Our home-cooked meal of chicken and nopales was absolutely divine as was the conversation we all had over food and drinks. Once dinner was done, we headed around the corner to get the bus back to CDMX. I would do this tour every single day for the rest of my life if I could. The next time I go back to CDMX, I will 100 take this tour again.

This trip was worth every penny. Cesar was our tour guide and made every moment safe, informative and special. I was scared to climb the pyramids and he held my hand. That goes above and beyond. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Than you Cesar!
