Get your flying chops in beautiful New Orleans with a personal 50-minute flying lesson! No prior experience is needed for this excursion, which includes a 20-minute on-ground lesson and 30 minutes of flying time in the company of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified instructor. You’ll help guide the small plane through take-off and landing, and — once airborne — maneuver over New Orleans’ famous sights such as the French Quarter, the Mississippi River and the sleepy Louisiana bayous.

What To Expect

Head to New Orleans Aerial Tours and Flight Training to meet your pilot instructor and engage in a 20-minute pre-flight tutorial before beginning your aerial adventure! You’ll learn the basics of airplane controls and flight procedure including the engine start sequence, aircraft taxiing and takeoff preparation. Then take your seat in the cockpit alongside the professional pilot, who will guide you through your first take off!

As you hit the sky, enjoy the unique juxtaposition of New Orleans cityscape and the vast surrounding swampland, and learn how to maneuver above the city neighborhoods and plantation estates. Catch unbeatable views of the French Quarter as it hugs into the curve of the Mississippi River, the impressive Mercedes-Benz Superdome — home to the New Orleans Saints NFL team — and the magnificent bayou system that surrounds the city.

As your 30-minute flight time ends, your instructor will lead you through the touchdown procedure and help you safely guide the plane to the ground. Don’t forget to have your first flight recorded in your official logbook!

Please note: Reservation time for your flight and any on-plane observers must by confirmed by phone at least 12 hours in advance of travel date. Observer can be added. Fee required. Observers not guaranteed without confirmation.

Please note: you must call supplier 12 hours in advance of travel date to confirm a flight time and observer attendance (additional observer fee to be paid, maximum of 2 observers allowed), observers are not guaranteed unless they have been confirmed prior to date of travel.
Minimum age is 10 years to enjoy a lesson, minimum age is 5 years to be an observer.
A minimum of 1 person per booking is allowed per lesson. An additional passenger may be added as an observer for an additional fee (must contact supplier).
A maximum of 3 people per booking (includes observers).
Dress code is weather dependent; there is no air conditioning in the summer months.
Food and drinks are not allowed on the aircraft.
There are no restrooms on board.
No large bags are allowed on the aircraft, only small purses and bags.

This lesson is not recommended for those who are prone to motion sickness, please take the necessary precautions as refunds will not be provided in matters regarding these situations. Pregnant women are recommended to speak with their physician before flying.
All passenger weights MUST be advised at time of booking, the combined weight must not exceed 450 lbs and no individual can exceed 300 lbs.
You will be required to sign a safety waiver before take-off.
Flight time is defined as the time from engine start to engine shutdown. This includes the time it takes to get from the ramp to the runway and back, before and after takeoff and landing.
Most travelers can participate
You will be required to provide photo ID at time of arrival.
In the event of a unique weather situation, we will reschedule at no charge to you to another date and time within two weeks of the original booking, so please have an alternate date and time in mind. Refunds are not available if a flight must be rescheduled due to weather conditions.
Fuel surcharges may apply.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.

Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

Present gone wrong

This was my husband's Christmas present. I paid the extra to be an observer to video and take pics of him flying. The 3 seater broke down so he had to tale a 2 seater which meant i could not go and experience this with him. They credited me but said they would give him more fly time for the hassle but the did not. Disappointed

Our team, including our Chief Flight Instructor, attempted to create a same day resolution due to the maintenance required on the aircraft you were originally assigned to. We offered you the opportunity to swap to a different plane so that you would still get to complete the flight that day. We offered additional flight time free of charge & to refund your observer fee instead of rescheduling to another day or time, which you accepted in the moment. The flight you booked through Viator was our Aviator Discovery Flight. This standard experience includes of 30 minutes of dual instruction and 20 minutes of ground instruction. You received an additional 20 minutes of dual flight instruction, totalling 50 minutes. We also reversed the charge for the observer fee back to the original form of payment, and we have confirmed with our booking software that this was processed. We always strive to offer a safe and memorable experience for all of our guests and student pilots, and we are disappointed that we weren’t able to resolve this matter to your satisfaction. Our pilot Lauren was amazing! This was a birthday gift for my husband and he really did fly the plane. She explained what to do but took care of taxing so we got the most air time. My husband actually did the take off and landing though with her guidance. He also did a steep turn which was cool. All in all a great experience. Would definitely do it again! It was also Lauren’s last flight bc she was moving on to a commercial airline. Good luck Lauren!
